QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT BEAUDESERT THURSDAY 26 JANUARY 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SOFT 6 RAIL – 2M 1100M-600M;TRUE REMAINDER OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R HitchenerStewards – S Fletcher, T Preston, P Reardon, J CreminClerk of Scales – C FredrickJudge – S McMahon, J BrownVeterinarian – S Flynn, G CavanaughSwab Attendants – L BobeszkoStarter – K Watson S Marr GENERAL Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting- Race 2- TYCOON PLAYER- L Miller + 1kgRace 7- CHILLIWACK- R Wiggins +1/2kg As P Hammersley was injured and not riding at the meeting, he was replaced as per the Stewards Summary. Race 1: TAB Maiden Plate 2450 metres FASTNET ANGEL – Slow to begin. MOONLIGHT COWBOY - Near the 1700m improved onto heels and was steadied. SEQUOIA CHIEFTAIN - Over-raced during the middle stages. THE WOLVERINE – Slow to begin. Steadied to avoid heels near the 2200m while over-racing. Near the 150m was steadied to avoid the heels of BANTAMWEIGHT which shifted out whilst being corrected by its rider after laying in. Neither jockey E Chaves nor trainer J Smerdon could offer any tangible explanation for the below market expectation performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to find any significant abnormalities. Trainer J Smerdon reported that in light of todays’ performance he would now consider the gelding’s racing future in his stable. ABBEY BRIDGE - Over-raced in the early and middle stages. BANTAMWEIGHT - Slow away, lost ground. Near the 150m shifted out when being corrected by its rider whilst laying in causing THE WOLVERINE to steady from heels. Race 2: AQUIS FARM RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap 2450 metres Following Race 1, the track was upgraded to a soft 5 retrospective. MEMOIRE PARFAIT - Near the 2000m commenced to over-race when TYCOON PLAYER improved to its outside before being restrained to a trailing position near the 1800m where it then began to race tractably. On returning to scale jockey S Thornton advised in her opinion the gelding being pressured in the middle stages by another runner was the major contributing factor in the horse failing to run on when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering mild heat stress and to have a slow post-race recovery. TUKI TWELVE - Slow into stride. STAR SMASH – Bumped on jumping. SERENADE THE CAT – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn. Approaching the 100m shifted out abruptly to secure clear running. HE'S VIRAL – Began awkwardly. TRIPPER – Bumped on jumping, losing ground. TYCOON PLAYER - Stewards questioned jockey L Miller in relation to the tactics adopted on the gelding. Jockey Miller advised that he was instructed by the trainer Mr S Barker to lead on the gelding at all costs and to endeavour to establish as large a lead as possible during the event as the gelding has previously won at this track and distance when ridden in this manner. Trainer S Barker confirmed the instructions issued to jockey Miller and as a consequence was satisfied with the manner in which the gelding was ridden. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be stepping short in both fore legs. Trainer S Barker advised the gelding would now be retired from racing however, nevertheless he was advised a Veterinary Certificate of soundness and barrier trial to Stewards satisfaction is required should the gelding race again. Race 3: TAB Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres The start was delayed initially when an error in the loading procedure occurred which required a number of runners to be removed from the barriers and be reloaded. A further delay was caused by MOUNT ZION proving difficult to load. SNATCH - Improved onto heels approaching the finish of the event. BULLET FORCE - Raced three wide without cover for the majority. MOUNT ZION – Difficult to load causing a delay. Trainer M Dunn was advised the gelding is to undergo an official barrier trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again. EMPEROR'S SECRET - Bumped on jumping. KING OF WANCHAI - Bumped on jumping losing ground. Raced wide throughout. Race 4: AQUIS FARM Maiden Handicap 1200 metres DREAM KNIGHT - Slow to begin. Held up for some distance approaching the home turn. THE PREACHER - Attempted to buck for some distance after the start. Trainer G Cornish was advised the gelding is required to undergo an official barrier trial prior to racing again. CAPITAL EYES - Jockey T Harrison was reminded of her obligations in relation to raising her whip arm above shoulder height. Race 5: TAB Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres Following the running of Race 4, the track was upgraded to a good 4. ELLIEZ STAR - Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages whilst travelling three wide. ORIGINAL GLAZE - Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages. EVANESCENT - Bumped on jumping. Raced three wide with cover for the majority. LUANA - As the mare had not started in a period exceeding 12 months was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. Race 6: AQUIS FARM QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate1400 metres STREET HUSSY – Refused to load and subsequently withdrawn by order of Stewards at 4.33 p.m. Trainer L Mayfield-Smith was advised the filly is to undergo an official barrier trial prior to next racing. All monies invested on STREET HUSSY were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and placegetters prior to 4.33 p.m.: 2c in the Dollar for the win # 2 BOARDIE3c in the Dollar for the place of winner #2 BOARDIE3c in the Dollar for 2nd placegetter #4 CRANKY HARRY2c in the Dollar for 3rd placegetter # 12 MOTIVATED MISS THE RIGHT WAY - Began awkwardly. WONFORWAZZA - Began awkwardly. Jockey J Guthmann-Chester reported that the gelding raced greenly throughout the event. CHICKA - Raced three wide with cover throughout. LOVE ON DISPLAY - Raced three wide without cover for the majority of race. MOTIVATED MISS - Raced keenly and was steadied from heels on a number of occasions in the middle stages. NAUGHTY NINJA - App K Wilson-Taylor fined $100 for accepting a ride when over-weight.AR190(3) subsequently replaced by Ms Tegan Harrison. GOT THE VIBE - Began awkwardly. MINTO'S POWER - Hampered on jumping. Steadied when placed in restricted room shortly after the start. A post-race Veterinary Examination of the gelding which tailed off failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 7: TAB BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1400 metres COLLAY’S SPIRIT – Lost the off-hind plate during running. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery and suffering mild heat stress. CHILLIWACK - Steadied from heels near the 1100m whilst racing keenly. ROMAN HEIR - Hung out rounding the home turn. SIENNA’S AWARD – A post-race Veterinary inspection revealed the mare to have Bi-Lateral swelling across the hindquarters necessitating treatment on course. Trainer H Norman was advised a Veterinary Certificate is required prior to the mare racing again. BLINDING LIGHT - Slow away. Race 8: AQUIS FARM BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1650 metres Due to storm activity in the area, Stewards in consultation with the TAB, elected to bring the starting time of this event forward by 2 minutes. GO MILLO - Steadied approaching the winning post the first time around. CHEERS TO ALL - Lost the near fore plate in running. App K Wilson-Taylor was reminded of his responsibilities to ride his mount out to the finish. EYE SHOOT TO WIN - Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early and middle stages. GLASHABEE - Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover from the 800m. Jockey E Chaves was reminded of his responsibilities to ride his mount out to the finish. WITCH DAY - Shifted in approaching the winning post on the first occasion. BULL DIMPLE RUM - Began awkwardly. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion was steadied to avoid the heels of WITCH DAY which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey S Thornton the rider of WITCH DAY was advised to exercise more care. KNOWITALL JACK - Held up rounding the home turn and unable to improve. ELMITA - Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn.
