MISHANI PERFECTION – Very Slow to begin and lost ground. Near the 150m, disappointed for a narrow run to the inside of WINNING REFLECTION, which rolled in slightly, and was checked by its rider and lost ground. Apprentice J Williams was advised to exercise greater care regarding this incident.

BANTAMWEIGHT – Slow to begin. Near the 1100m, when the pace steadied allowed his mount to stride forward. Co-trainer R Tyrell when asked to comment on the perceived improvement of the mare, stated that it historically is slow to begin and settles in a rearward position, however the only instructions issued to jockey L Tarrant in today’s event was to allow BANTAMWEIGHT to stride forward when the pace slackened in an attempt to make it a genuinely run race. Stewards noted his comments.

MADAM MAGNOLIA – Apprentice C Collis dropped his whip approaching the 100m.

Race 3: ANZAC DAY RACES 25 APRIL Class 1 Handicap 1650 metres

MANTINELLO – Stewards inquired into an incident leaving the straight on the first occasion when it appeared that MANTINELLO, ridden by apprentice S Callow, was tightened for racing room and inconvenienced. After taking evidence from jockey P Hammersley, the rider of WISE LEGEND and Apprentice B Wheeler, the rider of BETTER CLASS and on review of the official camera angles, Stewards when strongly considering the evidence tendered by apprentice Callow that she had allowed her mount to improve into a narrow run to the inside of WISE LEGEND, resulting in her being inconvenienced. Stewards whilst noting apprentice Callow’s evidence, reminded her of her obligations to provide forthright evidence at inquiries and elected to take the matter no further. Jockey P Hammersley was reminded of his obligations when attempting to cross. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

LEINSTER – Jockey C Taylor reported that leaving the straight on the first occasion, his mount shifted in abruptly despite his efforts resulting in the gelding being placed awkwardly at the heels of OLD SONG and was inconvenienced. Raced wide for the majority. Leaving the 300m, steadied from the heels of DREAM CANDY which shifted out to improve.

TEMPTRESS KATIE – When asked to comment regarding the tactics jockey C Small adopted in the early part of the race when racing in a forward position he elected to restrain. Jockey Small stated that after beginning well, shortly thereafter runners improved to his inside resulting in the mare racing in a three-wide position. Mr Small added that rather than continuing to press forward and race wide, he elected to ease for cover, however when doing so the mare raced ungenerously, shifted out and overreacted to his attempts to restrain for cover. Stewards noted his comments.

MY LAWLESS LADY – Began moderately.

Following the running of race 6, the track was upgraded to a soft 6.

Race 7: TAB BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 metres

Jockey N Tomizawa reported that after being bumped at the start, his mount only travelled fairly and when asked to quicken from the 600m, did not let down as expected and proved disappointing. Jockey Tomizawa also added that in his opinion the gelding may not have appreciated todays track conditions. Cast its off-hind plate in running.
