SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From SCTC meeting 11th June Race 3 Maiden Hdcp 1400m – Trainer G Thornton reported he was pleased with how ALPINE WIZARD had pulled up following the event, and it was his intention to continue with the horse’s current preparation.

GENERAL
Stewards approved the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 2 NEVER DANCE 56kg (+0.5kg)

Race 1: TAB BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 2450 metres

CHIEF COMMAND – Raced in restricted room near the 600m. When asked to comment rider J Adams could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance other than the horse may not have been suited by todays track conditions. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities other than a small abrasion to the near front bumper. Trainer D Scanes advised that it was his intention to continue with the gelding’s preparation and would report back to Stewards in the coming days any condition which may come to light.

JIMMY THE TULIP – Apprentice D McGillivray was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted, including two strikes on consecutive occasions.

GREEN ESSENCE – Passing the 500m had to be steadied momentarily from the heels of JIMMY THE TULIP which shifted out to improve. D McGillivray, the rider of JIMMY THE TULIP, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Cast off hind shoe in running.

BURY ROAD – Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to obtain the lead near the 1800m.

BRING THE STARS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.

CHAYSE 'N' NOAH – Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the mare to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer V Venkaya was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the horse racing again. Trainer V Venkaya advised Stewards it would be his intention to spell the mare.

GOOGAZ – Began awkwardly.

MASTER OF MENACE– From the wide draw restrained shortly after the start and shifted behind runners to obtain a rearward position closer to the rail.

Race 2: TAB Maiden Handicap 1400 metres

On arrival at the barriers the bridle of GOLD SAMURAI was readjusted.

SOMBANI – Due to transport difficulties Jockey C. Robertson was replaced by C. Bayliss.

LION KING – Stewards inquired into tactics adopted by App D McGillivray, particularly in the early and middle stages of the event. D McGillivray stated instructions were to lead if possible and if not able comply with these instructions to ride the horse with a sit. He advised he pressured the horse in the first 200m of the event in an attempt to comply with these instructions and approaching  the 900m, when attempting to restrain LION KING to obtain a sit, the horse raced keenly and failed to settle despite his efforts before weakening from the 400m. D McGillivray added that in his opinion the horse failed to run out a strong 1400m. Trainer J Bellamy concurred with the instructions issued, and agreed that LION KING did not settle as well as expected and was of the opinion the horse is not suited to racing over the 1400m of today’s event and going forward he would be limiting the horse’s future starts to races over shorter distances. Stewards noted the explanations from both parties. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have no abnormalities detected.

NEVER DANCE – Stood flat footed and lost ground. Stewards advised trainers’ representative for M Wilson that a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners. When laying in approaching the 100m improved onto heels and had to be momentarily steadied. Rider M McGillivray reported NEVER DANCE raced greenly at various stages of the event and had recommended that consideration be given to adding a nose roll to the horse’s gear going forward.

DARABAZ - Raced wide for the majority. Passing the 100m put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced.

SILK SASH – Trainer V Venkaya advised Stewards that considering today’s disappointing performance the mare would now be leaving his stable.

Race 3: TAB Fillies and Mares Class 3 Plate 1200 metres

SPOOKY SPIRIT – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PAGATO – As Apprentice J Williams was unable to claim down to his riding weight, he was replaced by Apprentice C Waddell. Apprentice Williams was fined $400 under the provisions of AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his recent poor record under this rule.

Race 4: BEAUDESERT CUP 8TH JULY Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 3 Plate 1200 metres

ATOMIC SELFIE – From the wide barrier and was obliged to restrain to rearward position after being caught wide in the early stages. Raced keenly whilst being restrained. Raced wide from the 500m. BRIDEZILLA (NZ) – Began awkwardly.

DEEP FIRE – Made the home turn wider on the track.

ROSE OF SHIRAZ – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

Stewards noted the explanation by Apprentice J Williams.

HOT PROFIT – From the wide draw restrained at the start, was shifted across runners to obtain cover closer to rail at the rear of the field. Taken wider on the track near the 1200m. Near the 1500m commenced to over race badly and when being restrained by its rider the saddle shifted forward significantly placing rider L Tarrant at a distinct disadvantage. As a result, a short distance later, after making the crossing at the 1200m awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and was allowed to stride forward by its rider to the lead the event near the 700m. In this incident, HOT PROFIT and A FIGHTING FURY were taken wider as a result.

SURREEL – Crowded shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure leaving the 100m.
