Race 1: STRONGER AT AQUIS QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres

TIGER TOWN – On arrival on course it was established that the off-fore plate had shifted when being transported to the track. The horse was subsequently re-plated and underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and lost ground. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey N Callow reported the horse began awkwardly, travelled fairly throughout the run, however when paced under pressure from the 400m, was disappointing. Trainer G Hickman also expressed some disappointment in the performance, adding that he was of the opinion TIGER TOWN would be better suited in races over a longer distance than that of today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

EXTRA FREE – Began awkwardly.

MOONLIGHT KICKS – Checked at the start between STILETTOS which shifted out and EXTRA FREE which began awkwardly. Near the 900m, when over racing, had to be restrained from the heels of MISHANI LIGHT which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey J Taylor the rider of MISHANI LIGHT was advised to exercise greater care.

MALARINA – Raced wide throughout. Passing the 600m, taken wider on the track when MISHANI LIGHT shifted out to improve.

PARIS ART – When placed under pressure approaching the 400m, shifted in and crowded STILETTOS which had to be eased. Raced greenly for the remainder of the race.

DUE DILIGENCE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ENTERPRISE LEGEND – Raced wide for the majority.

MARLEE'S ZANDER – Cast its off-fore plate in running. Near the 200m, clipped the heels of DUE DILIGENCE and blundered. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey B Ainsworth the rider of DUE DILIGENCE pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 200m, she permitted her mount to shift out when shifting out to obtain a run to the outside of CONTROLLED KAOS resulting in MARLEE’S ZANDER contacting the heels of DUE DILIGENCE, blundering, and having to be checked. Jockey B Ainsworth’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence midnight the 13th of July and to commence midnight the 26th of July.

Jockey J Adams, rider of PRIME ASSEST, was questioned regarding his tactics rounding the home turn particularly when CHILLIWACK obtained a run to the inside of CHILLIWACK. Jockey J Adams explained that his mount was inclined to lay out for the majority of the event and despite him using his whip in his left hand rounding the home turn, PRIME ASSET continued to race in a loose one-off position which allowed CHILLIWACK to improve to the inside. After viewing the available patrol footage Stewards noted his explanation.

In light of the poor performance trainer B Ahrens was advised the gelding would be required to officially trial prior to next racing.
