GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 3: TRAVOLI – A Allen 55kg (+1kg)
Race 5: MILEY’S MEMORY – M Cahill 55kg (+0.5kg)
Race 6: WHEN DOVES FLY – C Meehan 56kg (+0.5kg)
Race 7: JUMEIRAH TRIANGLE – A Allen 55kg (+1kg)
Race 7: WINSTON BLUE – M Hellyer 54.5kg (+0.5kg)
Race 8: BELLE’S BOY – J Adams 57kg (+0.5kg)
 
 
Race 1: Kobayashi at Aquis Stallions BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1100 metres
 
MR VISTA – Jockey A. Allen reported that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BEAU ARROW – Rounding the home turn, was obliged to shift wider on the track to secure clear running.
 
DATA PATCH – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a good 4, retrospective to Race 1.
 
Race 2: TAB BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 metres
 
FINE RUBY – After being loaded in the barriers, the horse got its near-hind leg caught in the rear barrier partition. Subsequently was removed from the barriers and underwent a veterinary examination and declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 12:50pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on FINE RUBY be refunded with the following deductions to apply:  
 
1st place – 4c the win, 6c the place
2nd place – 4c the place
3rd place – 6c the place
 
Trainer A. Campton was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing.
 
DARK HORSE – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Weakened from the 400m. Jockey N. Callow reported that his mount finished the race with its tongue over the bit and as a result made an abnormal breathing sound on pulling up.
 
CALCAREOUS – Raced wide from the 800m.
 
SMART CITY – Jockey A. Allen reported that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout the event.
 
BIRAGUE – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
RUSSIAN ROMEO – Slow to begin. Laid out in the early stages of the event. Held up rounding the home turn, and in the early stages of the home straight was then inclined to lay in when attempting a run between MISHANI CONMAN and MAUI near the 100m. When asked to comment on tactics adopted jockey Andrew Spinks advised instructions were to allow the horse to settle in early and middle stages of event and not to overly pressure the horse prior to the home turn as the horse possesses only a short sprint. After viewing the patrol footage, Stewards noted the explanation of jockey Spinks.
 
 
Race 3: The Mission at Aquis Stallions Class 2 Handicap 1650 metres
 
DEVINE FALLS – Jockey D. Peisley reported his mount was not suited by the slow early pace of the race, adding that in his opinion DEVINE FALLS is better suited racing on a bigger track and has shown a preference to racing on a synthetic racing surface.
 
SARSEN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BIE'RES – Passing the winning post on the first occasion over raced for a short distance at the heels of EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS.
 
TRAVOLI – At the request of the connections, underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.
 
EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS – Jockey B. Ainsworth was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, two more then permitted.
 
Following the running of Race 3, the track was upgraded to a good 3.
 
Race 4: TAB Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Plate 1100 metres
 
BEAST OF BURDEN – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
CONFIRM NOR DENY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
NATIONAL INTEREST – Near the 200m, was disappointed for a run and became awkwardly placed at heels for some distance thereafter between BRAVEZEL and BEAST OF BURDEN which shifted in momentarily.
 
NOAH – Jockey M. Powell reported that his mount was inclined to lay out on various stages during the event.
 
PRIVATE MESSAGE – Raced wide throughout.
 
SQUEAK – Slow to begin. When the pace of the race slackened near the 700m, improved onto the heels of WHISKY TRAIN and had to be steadied. Near the 100m, after initially becoming held up at the heels of the tiring NOAH, was unable to secure clear running for the remainder of the event.
 
WHISKY TRAIN – Passing the winning post, raced in restricted room, and had to be eased when crowded for room.
 
BRAVEZEL – Passing the winning post, raced in restricted room, and had to be eased when crowded for room.
 
WEEKEND ARTIST – Passing the winning post, shifted out under pressure, resulting in BRAVEZEL and WHISKY TRAIN being placed in restricted room and had to ease. Apprentice C. Waddell the rider of WEEKEND ARTIST was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
DEAD MAN'S HAND – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 5: LEAN MEAN MACHINE AT AQUIS STALLIONS Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate 1100 metres
 
SIMONE LOUISE – After being unable to be loaded into the barriers and when the bridal broke in the course of the loading process, SIMONE LOUISE was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 2:35pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on SIMONE LOUISE be refunded with the following deductions to apply – 
 
1st place – 27c the win, 11c the place
2nd place – 34c the place
3rd place – 34c the place
 
Trainer’s representative for A. Neasham was advised that SIMONE LOUISE would require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
 
EYE WANTED – Near the 900m, raced in restricted room between INSTAGOOD and MILEY’S MEMORY which was taken in by SAY IT’S SO. Apprentice D. McGillivray the rider of SAY IT’S SO, was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Raced wide throughout.
 
ARABIAN FOX – Shifted out at the start and bumped INSTAGOOD.
 
AUTORA – When asked to comment Apprentice C. Waddell could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than in her opinion the horse may benefit from the removal of earmuffs. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
INSTAGOOD – Began awkwardly and then bumped by ARABIAN FOX.
 
SAY IT'S SO – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
GRIS AMOUR – Restrained at the start and shifted behind runners to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
Race 6: TAB Maiden Plate 1400 metres
 
DE NILE USA – Began awkwardly. Near the 300m momentarily crowded for room when WHEN DOVES FLY, which was weakening, momentarily shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Passing the 100m, laid out under pressure and became awkwardly placed at the heels of SHE’S SOO GOOD and had to be steadied.
 
DECARBONISE – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
WOLF POINT – Raced wide for the majority.
 
CARREFOUR – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, trainer Greg Cornish explained whilst the horse had disappointed at its most recent start on 15th July 2023 on the Gold Coast synthetic track, CARREFOUR had previously performed well when racing at Beaudesert, adding that the horse had pleased him in its work this week leading into the race. Stewards noted his explanation.
 
PARIS FASHION – Slow to begin. Whilst racing keenly, had to be steadied from the heels of REAL MINT near the 1200m and then continued to over race for some distance thereafter.
 
SHE'S SOO GOOD – Began awkwardly.
 
WHEN DOVES FLY – Jockey C. Meehan, rider of WHEN DOVES FLY, accidentally dropped his whip at the entrance to the home straight.
 
Race 7: Jonker at Aquis Stallions BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 2450 metres
 
HARBELLE – Slow to begin.
 
RED OSCAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the final 1400m of the event.
 
HE'S A HOTFOOT – Shifted out at the start and bumped DARABAZ. When asked to comment on the performance jockey J. Guthmann-Chester stated that in his opinion, the gelding failed to run out the 2450m distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed HE’S A HOTFOOT to have cardiac arrythmia. Trainer A. Campton was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate inclusive with the results of an ECG and would be required to officially trial prior to next racing.
 
JUMEIRAH TRIANGLE – Raced wide from the 800m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
WINSTON BLUE – Raced wide for the final 800m.
 
DARABAZ – Trainer P. Kimmet was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to notify a rider within the prescribed time.  Bumped at the start. Jockey B. Ainsworth reported that whilst it was not her intention to race in forward position, her mount over raced and travelled more keenly than anticipated in the early stages and in her opinion that a detrimental effect on the horses finishing effort over the final 400m.
 
RECALL EVENTS – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid out rounding the 700m turn resulting in NO MORE RED obtaining a run to the inside of that runner.
 
Race 8: Aquis Beaudesert Aug 25th RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1400 metres
 
GALLERY MASTER – Restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails. Passing the winning post after being taken in was obliged to be checked from the heels of BELLE’S BOY.
 
SAGRADO – Shifted in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DRIFTA – Approaching the 900m, when over racing was obliged to steady from the heels of SAGRADO. Approaching the winning post, had to be checked. At a subsequent inquiry, Andrew Spinks, rider of SAGRADO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that approaching the winning post, he allowed his mount to shift in under riding resulting in DRIFTA being taken in and having to check when awkwardly placed at the heels of SAGRADO, and further continued to allow SAGRADO to shift in resulting in GALLERY MASTER having to be checked after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of BELLE’S BOY. The licence of Andrew Spinks to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight the 20th of August and to expire midnight the 28th of August 2023.
 
GIVE ME SOMETHING – Following the disappointing performance, trainer D. Murphy advised that it was now her intention to send the mare for a spell.
 
TOP BABE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
BELLE'S BOY – As there was no other rider available at the handicapped weight, Stewards permitted jockey J. Adams to ride the gelding at 57kg, 0.5kg overweight. Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
