GENERAL

Stewards permitted the following overweights at today’s meeting:
Race1: THUNDER SHANGAI – J Guthmann-Chester 56.5kg (+0.5kg)
Race 4: CHIKA – Anthony Allen 55kg (+1kg)
Race 6: MORE THAN YOU – Justin Huxtable 56.kg (+0.5kg)

Trainer S Morrisey was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the raceday declaration of a rider on BETTER THAN LOVE in Race 1.

Stewards accepted the reasons for late rider changes on VANTASTIC (Race 2), PLAYED AN ACE (Race 4) and SPEED MAP (Race 8) as per the race day Summary sheet.

Stewards permitted R Jamieson to be replaced by G Goomany as the rider of GOING TO THE SUN (Race 9) for acceptable reasons.

Following the downgrading of the track at 12:32pm, Stewards permitted the following late scratching:
Race 6: BENNU

As a result of the delay following Race 5, all races were put back one time slot with Race 9 to start at 4:58pm. Due to this delay Stewards permitted J Murphy to replace M Savva as the rider of SAM’S A NATURAL (Race 9) to allow M Savva to fulfill riding commitments at the Toowoomba meeting.


Race 1: JONKER FIRST WEANLINGS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1650M

HIMEJI – After being loaded into the barriers became fractious, reared, was removed, and underwent a veterinary examination. Raced keenly for a short distance near the 1200m.

MERCHANT FLYER – From the wide barrier, restrained at the start and shifted in to obtain a position closer to the rails. Raced wide from the 800m.

WEEKEND ARTIST – Caught wide in the early stages.

THUNDER SHANGHAI – Difficult to load.

BON'S ZEN – Rider L Miller was reminded of his obligations under AR132(6)(c) for use of the whip on a horse out of contention.




Race 2: AQUIS BEAUDESERT RACEDAY 1 JUNE CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1650M

KERCHAK – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

PURVEYOR – Slow to begin.

TIRITIRI – Bumped and taken in passing the 400m when KERCHAK laid in under pressure before being corrected.

VANTASTIC – Slow to begin.

NEWMARKET MISS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

TERMITE – Jumped out at the start.

BRIEF SOJOURN – Jumped out at the start. Made 1200m crossing awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider Andrew Spinks reported BRIEF SOJOURN was not suited by the prevailing track conditions.

The track was downgraded to a Soft 7 at 12:32pm due to considerable cut in the track.



Race 3: GLENFIDDICH FIRST WEANLINGS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400M

ROTHESAY'S LAD – Slow to begin. Raced keenly for a short distance passing the 800m. Near the 450m steadied when racing in restricted room between SMILE CHARGE and OAKFIELD PANTHER, which shifted out after becoming awkwardly placed near the heels of MEANASENKO.

DEER HUNTER – Hampered passing the 500m when held up behind tiring AU KILLES.

MEANASENKO – Trainer A Campton was reprimanded under AR106(1) for presenting the horse with gear not applied correctly.

SMILE CHARGE – Raced keenly for a short distance passing the 800m.

ARAMINTA – Slow to begin.

AU KILLES – Apprentice C Collis reported his mount did not feel comfortable in its action, weakened when placed under pressure from the 600m and was eased down in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer D Bell was advised AU KILLES must Officially Trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to its next race start.

CYBERWARS – Hampered approaching the 500m when held up behind the tiring AU KILLES.

WITH DIAMONDS – Very slow to begin. Trainer D Bougoure was advised a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners.



Race 4: BEAUDESERT CUP RACEDAY 6 JULY MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400M

KINGFIELD – Hampered on jumping.

GLENRAY'S MATE – Checked at the start when KINGFIELD was hampered and taken in. Raced wide for the majority.

ZOUGIRL – Began awkwardly and bumped with COCO JEWEL.

COOL PROPHET – From the wide barrier, restrained at the start and shifted in to obtain a position closer to the rails. Held up behind the tiring ZOUGIRL for a short distance passing the 400m. When questioned, rider D Smith advised he was instructed to go back from the wide draw, work into the race from the 500m and to come down the middle of the track in the home straight. He stated that on straightening, he had to first balance filly before applying pressure. He added ZOUGIRL ran on well at end of the race. Rider D Smith was advised that although his lack of vigour early in the straight and to a lesser extent over the concluding stages, caused concern; his actions did not meet the requisite standard under the Rules for the matter to be taken further.

CHICKA – Jumped in at the start hampering KINGFIELD.

PLAYED AN ACE – Raced wide for the majority.

COCO JEWEL – Began awkwardly and bumped with ZOUGIRL.




Race 5: TAB WE'RE ON BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1400M

ADONISEA – Trainer M Morrison was reprimanded under AR206(3) for presenting the horse to the enclosure with incorrect gear.

DRAGON SONG – Raced wide for the majority. Hampered near 400m.

UNION SPIRIT – Hampered near 400m.

DAEDALUS – Raced wide for the majority.

MILLWARD - Hampered near 400m.

TWO SMOKIN BARRELS – Badly hampered near 400m.

IVANOV – Jumped awkwardly with its head up. An inquiry into the reason for rider M Hellyer being dislodged near the 400m after the gelding blundered, was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed. As a result, TWO SMOKIN BARRELS was being badly hampered, and MILLWARD, UNION SPIRIT and DRAGON SONG were all hampered. Rider M Hellyer was transported to hospital for further treatment. He will be required to produce a medical clearance prior to riding again. In this incident IVANOV sustained an injury to the offside shoulder and was subsequently euthanised on humanitarian grounds. Postmortem samples were taken from IVANOV.




Race 6: KOBAYASHI @ AQUIS STALLIONS MAIDEN PLATE 1100M

VIDEO VIXEN – Fractious after being loaded into the barriers and became momentarily cast resulting in App C Waddell sustaining an injury to her left foot. VIDEO VIXEN was subsequently declared a late withdrawal at 3:14pm by order of Stewards. On declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on VIDEO VIXEN be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:

1st: FLYING D’AMORE - 14c win, 5c place
2nd DISCOTHEQUE – 16c place
3rd ILLUSIONISM – 22c place

Trainer G Heinrich was advised VIDEO VIXEN must Officially Trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again.

Apprentice Casey Waddell was examined by QAS staff following this incident and found to be suffering bruising to the left foot. She was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to riding again.

ARIK LAD – Slow to begin. Checked leaving the 300m after improving into a narrow run to the inside of THREE GRACES, which was taken in by DARE TO LOVE (C Collis) when not fully clear. In all circumstances, App C Collis was reprimanded under AR13(a) for careless riding in this incident. Momentarily crowded for room near 100m when LEMON SUPREME (L Miller) shifted in. L Miller was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

DISCOTHEQUE – Rider A Allen was reprimanded under AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out fully to the end of the race.

DARE TO LOVE – Bumped near the 900m.

INTO THE ZONE – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.

Race 7: TAB FASTER VISION BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200M

MISSION RIDGE – Approaching the 100m bumped, became unbalanced and taken in when OUTWITTED (J Guthmann-Chester) improved into a narrow run between FULL CRY and MISSION RIDGE. J Guthmann-Chester was advised to exercise more care.

VONZITHER – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

LONDON POINT – After being slow to begin, was then crowded between runners shortly after the start and lost ground.

CHERRY SODA – A pre-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg and was subsequently declared a late withdrawal at 3:05pm. Trainer G Cornish was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.



Race 8: COUNTRY LUNCHEON 6 JULY BOOK NOW BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200M

SPEAK NOW – Slow to begin.

FENTON – Raced wide for the majority.

THUNDER MANIA – Raced wide for the majority.

DON QUIXOTE – Raced wide for the majority.

YES TO EXCESS – From the wide barrier, restrained and shifted in to obtain a position closer to the rails. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

SO GREYSFUL – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Race 9: BEAUDESERTRACECLUB.COM RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1100 M

BOOMI'S BUDDY – Raced wide for the majority.

MONEY BEAR – Raced very keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

CROWN GUINEA – Rider M Cahill reported the mare put in an awkward stride near the 450m.

MISS SHU – Checked passing the 200m.

MISS ZERMATT – Raced wide for the majority.

GOING TO THE SUN – Raced wide for the majority.

MISHANI PERSUASION – Slipped on jumping and then slow to muster speed in the early stages.

R Wiggins, rider of MONEY BEAR, pleaded guilty to of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that passing the 200m, he permitted MONEY BEAR to shift out when insufficiently clear of MISS SHU, which resulted in rider S Cormack being obliged to turn that horse’s head out to avoid the heels of MONEY BEAR and then take hold of his mount. Rider R Wiggins’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 4th May 2024 and expire midnight 13th May 2024. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea and excellent record in this area.
