Race 4 BETOOTA FLYING OPEN H’CAP – 1000M
S. Cunningham, the trainer of MANETTINO, reported to stewards that following on from Betoota after the gelding had raced in disappointing manner the gelding had shown a mild case of colic.
A post race veterinary examination of MANETTINO 2/09/11 cleared the horse to race. This information was broadcasted via on course media.
As a number of trainers were unable to declare riders by the prescribed time due to contributing factors, all changes were made as per Stewards summary sheet.
All runners which competed at Birdsville 02.09.2011 and were entered to race today were examined by the veterinary surgeons on arrival at the course and cleared to start.
Race 1: METALCORP MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
1st – PORTION 2nd – COUNT NIKOLA 3rd – EPIC DANCER 4th – MARKOTO
VANGUARD (D. Rewald) was slow to begin.
MESQUEST (M. Webber) began awkwardly.
EXQUISITE DIAMOND (G. Geran) began awkwardly and lost ground.
VANGUARD and EXQUISITE DIAMOND and raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 2: VEOLIA - ELITE CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 800M
1st – MEGHANI 2nd – ONLY LOOKING 3rd – FOXI ELI 4th – KASHINITE
ONLY LOOKING which was successful in the Class B H’Cap at Birdsville 02.09.2011 incurred a 1.5kg penalty for today’s race. This was announced via the track broadcast.
ONLY LOOKING (C. Dixon) jumped in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.
FIGHTING DEMONS (G. Geran) which began awkwardly was tightened form room shortly after the start between ZERO LOYALTY (C. Keraney) and IMA GENERAL (M. Webber) which shifted out.
DESERT SWEEP (C. Spry) raced in restricted room approaching the 400m between IMA GENERAL and FOXI ELI (W. Doyle) and was further tightened for room by FOXI ELI leaving the 400m and as a result shifted in making contact with IMA GENRAL. W. Doyle, the rider of FOXI ELI was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
M. Webber, the rider of IMA GENERAL was fined the sum of $100.00 under AR137A (5) (a) (ii) in that he used his whip on more than five occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.
Race 3: LANDMARK CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1000M
1st – ALCARNTSPELL 2nd – AIR BUS 3rd – BELLREGO 4th – MOSSBEMAD
PERIANDER (M. Crawford) and MOSSBEMAD (S. Galvin) were slow to begin.
BELLREGO (G. Geran) began awkwardly.
COLLINE HOAKS (M. Webber) and BELLREGO both hung out in the early and middle stages of race.
AIR BUS (C. Dixon) raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 4: AKUBRA QTIS CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200M
1st – SAN MATEO 2nd – MONEGASQUE 3rd – TYCOON IS IN 4th – GREENHIDE
COPPER PIN (W. Boyle) was slow to begin.
MEDIUM 'N' RARE (S. Galvin), MONEGASQUE (D. Ballard) and JENZAN (C. Kearney) all raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 5: BIRDSVILLE CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 1600M
1st – JUST A TOUCH 2nd – LET GO JOHNNY 3rd – KALMAN 4th – SANDWOOD
RAPID MAGIC (K. Ballard) was slow to begin.
LET GO JOHNNY (C. Spry) and LOTTO BLUES raced wide for the majority of the race.
When questioned into the disappointing of ASTRO GAINS, rider C. Dixon stated that the gelding travelled well to the 600m however once placed under pressure failed to run on as expected. Trainer T. Austin stated he was unable to offer any tangible explanations and was disappointed with the horses performance and further advised that should anything come to his attention days subsequent to the race he would advise stewards. A post race veterinary examination of ASTRO GAINS failed to reveal any abnormalities.
A post race veterinary examination of RAPID MAGIC revealed the gelding to be lame in its off fore leg. Trainer G. Tipping was advised that he must supply a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to the horse trialling or racing again.
T. Brummell, the rider of LOTTO BLUES was fined the sum of $100.00 under AR137A (5) (a) (ii) in that he used his whip on more than five occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.
Race 6: BLACK TOYOTA WEIGHT FOR AGE – 1200M
1st – OUTSTANDINGLY 2nd – THE BEAST 3rd – GESINK 4th – GUDUNOV
As A. Spradau failed to arrive on course he was replaced by C. Spry as the rider of OUTSTANDINGLY. A. Spradau will be interviewed at a later date into the reasons he failed to fulfil his engagement.
Trainer D. Ballard reported that THE BEAST had hit its head when travelling to the course. THE BEAST was vetted prior to the event and cleared to race.
GUDUNOV (S. Galvin) was slow to begin.
THE BEAST (D. Ballard) raced in three wide position leaving the 800m.
GESNINK (D. Rewald) and GUDUNOV raced wide for the majority of the race.
THE BEAST and OUTSTANDINGLY (C. Spry) both shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
Race 7: HIDDEN DRAGON @ LYNDHURST CLASS 6 PLATE – 1400M
1st – HAPPY NOW 2nd – TUNE HIM UP 3rd – FLICKERING STORM 4th – ROCKY GROUND
NO SHACKLES which was successful in the Class 3 H’Cap at Birdsville 02.09.2011 incurred a 1.5kg penalty for today’s race. This was announced via track broadcasted.
MANETTINO (C. Kearney) LOUGHRAN LAD (C. Dixon) were slow to begin.
FAMOUS CRY (B. Richardson), ROCKY GROUND (S. Galvin) and FLICKERING STORM all raced wide for the majority of the race.
