QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT BIRDSVILLE RACE CLUB –SATURDAY 1 SEPTEMBER 2018 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING –GOOD (DIRT) RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALSStewards –R. Hitchener & E. Barron Clerk of Scales – StewardsJudge –Stewards Veterinarian – W. NasonStarter – R. Hanson GENERAL: All runners which raced at yesterday’s meeting which were backing up today, were examined by the Race day Veterinary Surgeon prior to the scratching deadline and were passed fit to start. Race 2: Stewards accepted the riding change of A. Thompson replacing N Fazackerley as the rider CHRISTMAS CHEER at the request of the horses owners. Nevertheless Stewards ordered that a riding fee and any applicable prizemoney percentage be paid to N Fazackerley as a consequence of this late riding alteration. Race 1: LANDMARK/CGU MAIDEN PLATE- 1200M STAR EXPRESS- Declared a late scratching by order of Stewards acting on Veterinary Advice at 12:20pm. THE SCOOP – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. Rider N. Day was fined $200 for use of whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. PLUCKANI – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with the barrier patrician. TRUFFLE HUNTER – Slow to begin and was reluctant to travel through the kick back in the early stages. Rider R. Vigar was fined $500 for use of whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. Race 2: BIRDSVILLE FUEL SERVICE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP– 800M PAYBACK – Refused to jump and took no part in the event. Trainer T. Austin was advised that a barrier certificate would be required prior to racing again. EASY – Failed to muster early speed and made the home turn wide. ALBERT THE ROCKET – Slow to begin. TIDES OF FORTUNE – Resented the kickback in the early stages and made the home turn wide. Race 3: LYNDHURST STUD CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1200M ZAHA DREAM – Rider reported that the horse hung out throughout. SPECTACULAR ROCK – Began awkwardly and resented the kick back in the early stages. ZENDAYE – Tightened for room at the start. SPUR WITH EASE – Reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. SLITHERING SUZIE – Raced in restricted room near the 500m. Race 4: AKUBRA CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1200M LADY CHICAGO – Knuckled on jumping away. DUTTON BAY – Raced in restricted room near the 800m and lost ground. CHOICE SON - Raced in restricted room near the 800m and lost ground. OTTO’S BROTHER – Laid out in the home straight. Race 5: INNAMINCKA HOTEL BENCHAMARK 70 - 1000M BENCHI PEGASUS – Slow to muster early speed. SNIPPETY SIP – Hung out rounding the home turn and again in the home straight. ROSIE’S SON – Hung out rounding the home turn. DRINKING COCKTAILS – Taken wider by another runner in the home straight. Race 6: UBET BIRDSVILLE CUP OPEN HANDICAP– 1600M PALACE TYCOON – Turned its head when the start was effected and as result lost valuable ground. SAMMY SPARROW – Began awkwardly and lost ground. GOOD JOB BRO – Slow to begin. EXPAT ENVY –Rider L. Tilley was fined $200 for use of whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. BOGGOMS – Post race veterinary examination releveled the gelding to have poor post-race recovery. HUSONIQUE – Reluctant to stretch out and dipped on multiple occasions in the back straight. ARTIE’S SHORE – Tightened for room leaving the 1100m. Race 7: BROOKLANDS/FRED BROPHY BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP– 1400M Start was delayed to allow the Veterinary Surgeon to attend to a horse from the previous race. MANDALONG PASS - R. McMahon replaced L. Dillon who was overweight. L. Dillon was subsequently was fined $100. Hung out from the 1000m until straightening and proved difficult to ride. MENACING – Jumped in the air at the start resulting in App. A. Ross striking her head on the barrier structure upon leaving the barriers. HIMALAYA DREAM – Commenced to weaken and dipped approaching the 400m. BELLS ‘N’ BOWS – Slow to begin. Checked from heels near the 1200m and lost ground. SHADOW AFFAIR - Checked when tightened for room near the 1000m when MANDALONG PASS hung out despite the efforts of its rider.
