QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT BIRDSVILLE RACE CLUB SUNDAY 4th SEPTEMBER 2022 WEATHER –FINE TRACK RATING –GOOD RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R HitchenerStewards – B Cooke, S CoulthardClerk of Scales – Stewards Judge – N EvansVeterinarian – Dr T McClymont, Dr T KirbyStarter – L Lewis GENERAL All runners competing at today’s meeting which raced at the Birdsville meeting yesterday (3/09/22) were examined by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to their event and subsequently passed fit to start. Stewards accepted the explanations of trainers in relation to late rider notifications. Race 1: BIRDSVILLE RACES ROADIES BENCHMARK 55 Handicap800 metres LEARNING CURVE- Laid out rounding the home turn. FAITH AND LOVE- Tightened for room at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. DO YOUR BEST- Began awkwardly. TIME FLIES BY- Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages before improving onto heels near the 600m and was steadied. RACE 2: RFDS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 METRES No racing incidents Race 3: LYNDHURST STUD OPEN Handicap 1200 metres KRONOS- Hung in under pressure in the home straight. WAIT A MINUTE- Hung out in the early stages. Race 4: 4 TAB Class 5 Handicap 1200 metres LAURIE- After winning at Birdsville on 3/9/22, the gelding was penalised 1.5kg and as such was re handicapped to carry 61.5kg in this event. Slow to begin. REAL VALENTIA- Jockey J Keating was reprimanded for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. Race 5: BIRDSVILLE HOTEL Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres TUSCAN LEATHER- When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, the stable representative for trainer K Geran reported that the Gelding was racing first up from a spell at its most recent start at Betoota on 27/8/22 and therefore obtained a fitness benefit from that run. He added that in today’s event the gelding was dropping significantly in class and with the addition of Blinkers to the horses gear the stable had expected a significantly improved performance. Stewards noted the explanation. Jockey G Geran was fined $400 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. MAXAWAY- Raced wide throughout. NANNU- Slow to begin. Held up approaching the home turn. ZUIICHI- Cast its near fore and both hind plates in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer L Miller was advised he will be required to obtain a Veterinary Clearance for the gelding prior to next racing. Race 6: CELEBRATING 140 YEARS OF THE BIRDSVILLE RACES Class 3 Plate 1400 metres STRADARI- Jockey J Keating was reprimanded for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.
