Race 1: GDL BLACKALL QTIS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1050 metres
 
MISHANI OPERATOR – began awkwardly and as a result was slow into stride.
 
YULE MY HERO – began awkwardly and as a result was slow into stride.
 
GRAND PALAZZO (NZ) – slow away and raced three wide throughout.
 
FREDDIE EDDIE – raced wide throughout.
 
SHENANIGAN CITY – very slow to begin and raced wide from the 600 metres.
 
 
Race 2: FRAME RURAL AGENCIES MAIDEN PLATE 1050 metres
 
AUSSIE MYTHOLOGY – reared as the start was affected and jumped outwards making contact with BENTER.
 
BENTER – at the start came into contact with AUSSIE MYTHOLOGY.
 
KALMIA – jumped out abruptly at the start and raced wide throughout.
 
MISHANI MOBSTER – was slow away and raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 3: ELDERS BLACKALL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1200 metres
 
BIGGER THAN THORN – tightened for room near the 150 metres when MUSTAFA shifted in for a stride.
 
KARARA LAD – at the start was bumped heavily by MUSTAFA.
 
MUSTAFA – jumped out at the start and bumped heavily with KARARA LAD then raced wide throughout. Near the 150 metres shifted in for a stride and tightened BIGGER THAN THORN.
 
DESIGNED TO RUN – raced wide throughout.
 
TYPHOON TALAYAH – had to be reweighed after being presented to the saddling enclosure. Jockey Baker stated he weighed out with a lead bag and after reweighing it was determined that jockey Baker did not weigh out with a lead bag as his weight was correct on reweighing.
 
HOT CHOCOLATE – jockey Jason Missen was granted permission to ride 1kg overweight as there was no other rider available. Rider reported HOT CHOCOLATE lay in throughout the race and that it felt awkward in its action throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
OSAKA SUNSET – was presented to the enclosure without the race day blinkers. Trainer Rodney Little pleaded guilty to a charge under the terms of AR106(2) for presenting OSAKA SUNSET to the enclosure without blinkers and was fined $200.
 
 
Race 4: RAY WHITE RURAL BLACKALL RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1400 metres
 
 
MANDERVILLE ROCKER (NZ) – shifted out wide shortly after the start and raced wide for the remainder.
 
WIKI – raced wide throughout.
 
AUVERGNE – rider Denis Baker pleaded guilty to a charge under the terms of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 15 occasions prior to the 100 metres 10 more than permitted. Jockey Bakers license to ride in races was suspended for 14 days from the 16th April until the 30th April. When determining an appropriate penalty were mindful this was jockey Denis Bakers first offence in six months however the severity of the rule breach warranted a more severe penalty. Stewards also took into account the Minimum Penalty Guidelines.
 
AMADEO – raced wide throughout.
 
Race 5: NUTRIEN WESTERN OPEN PLATE 1400 metres
 
COZHECANCAN – at the start was bumped in the hind quarters by TOWER ROAD, raced wide throughout.
 
GALAPAGOS – raced wide throughout
 
HELMET HEAD – jumped out abruptly at the start bumping heavily with TOWER ROAD.
 
TOWER ROAD (NZ) – was bumped heavily by HELMET HEAD at the start resulting in shifting out and bumping COZHECANCAN. Near the 1000 metres was tightened for room for a stride and had to ease.
