Race 1: BROWNS MILK SUPPLY & BP MERINDA MAIDEN PLATE- 1000m
1st – SHE’S EXCITING 2nd – LORZY 3rd – CANNY JEWEL 4th – RUN LIKE A DHEER
SHE’S EXCITING (App. P. Edwards) was slow away. App. P Edwards reported her mount was inclined to hang in throughout.
RUN LIKE A DHEER (J. Long) was slow into stride.
At approximately the 800m, CANNY JEWEL (J. Stanley) had to be steadied when placed in restricted racing room to the inside of SHE’S EXCITING which was hanging in, despite the efforts of the rider.
Inside the 200m, PRIMOSE GIRL was steadied when BUCKATOO (G. Cullen) shifted in. Jockey G. Cullen (BUCKATOO) was advised to exercise more care when shifted ground in the future.
CRAZY FOR LOVING (S. Watkin) laid in under pressure in the straight.
Race 2: WHITSUNDAY SHORES & ARABON SEAFOOD CLASS B HANDICAP- 1100m
1st – ZULU DAWN 2nd – BEAUCAPPA 3rd – BRAVE TESTIMONY 4th – PERUGIAN SPIRIT
COMMISAR DANILOV was scratched at 7.22am, as no rider was available.
MARAUDING FLYER was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 9.24am due to no rider available.
Stewards enquired into the reasons why BEAUCAPPA (G. Cullen) and COME ON QUICK (J. Long) were placed in and started from the incorrect barriers. After taking evidence from the riders involved and also the Starter A. Lee and Assistant Starter, Mr. M. Wright, Stewards reminded G. Cullen and J. Long of their obligations in relation to being in the correct barrier and also advised the Starter to review the process and procedures used.
Trainer R. Wrigley was advised a warning was placed on COME ON QUICK as it proved difficult to load.
At approximately the 800m, BEAUCAPPA (G. Cullen) rolled in and PERUGIAN SPIRIT (P. Cullen) has shifted in and away from that runner, causing BRAVE TESTIMONY (J Stanley) to be eased.
EIGHT RELIC (I. Fry) was held up for clear running inside the final 200m.
A post-race veterinary inspection of BEAUCAPPA revealed the horse to be lame after aggravating a previous injury. Stewards ordered that BEAUCAPPA be inspected by the Club Vet at its next race start.
Race 3: ECLIPSE FINANCIAL SERVICES/ ROD GRITINER NISSAN OPEN HANDICAP - 1100m
1st - POWER CITY 2nd - HIGHONRUM 3rd – WALTZ TO GLORY 4th – MAIN GAME
Due to a power failure on course Race 3 & 4 was run without the photo finish equipment operating.
At approximately the 800m, POWER CITY (S. Watkin) has shifted out, forcing WALTZ TO GLORY (G Cullen) to shift out. A short distance later, WALTZ TO GLORY has shifted back in and in doing so inconvenienced NASTY LION (P. Cullen). At the same time, POSITIVE OUTCOME (J. Long) has shifted out to avoid the heels of MAIN GAME (J Stanley) causing NASTY LION to be further inconvenienced. As no video footage could be shown to the riders concerned on the day, after viewing the patrol films of the incident and from Steward’s observations, Jockey S. Watkin will be cautioned at a later date.
Jockey J. Felix (HIGHONRUM) was afforded the opportunity to view video replay footage of this race and was satisfied as to the placings semaphored.
Race 4: BOWEN TRANSIT QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE- 1280m
1st – SATZERO 2nd - FROG 3rd – MOTEUR LISSE 4th – IT’S THE POWER
Jockey J. Stanley was permitted to ride UNTOUCH A BELLE two kilograms overweight as no other rider could ride at or closer to the allotted weight.
MOTEUR LISSE (G. Cullen) over-raced in the middle stages, when being restrained from the heels of UNTOUCH A BELLE (J. Stanley).
An enquiry into an incident reported to have occurred at approximately the 550m when ARROWIN (J .Stopps) was checked and lost ground will be held at a time and date to be fixed.
Jockey P. Cullen (FROG) was afforded the opportunity to view video replay footage of this race and was satisfied as to the placings semaphored
Race 5: XXXX GOLD BOWEN CUP CLASS 6 HANDICAP - 1810m
1st – CALIFORNIA EXPRESS 2nd – IN YOUR HONOUR 3rd – OUR MORNING GLORY
4th – INDOMATO
The start of this race was delayed by approximately 15mins as the Club has emergency services endeavouring to restore power to basic public amenities. Race started at 4.40pm. The photo finish was operational for this race.
MECHANICAL FAN was declared a late scratching at 3.21pm due no available rider. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, all bets made on MECHANICAL FAN were ordered to be refunded and deductions of 7 cents the win and 8 cents place to be made on all winning bets.
CALIFORNIA EXPRESS (I Fry) over-raced in the early stages.
At approximately 300m, CALIFORNIA EXPRESS shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped OUR MORNING GLORY (J. Stanley).
OUR MORNING GLORY (J. Stanley) laid in behind CALIFORNIA EXPRESS (I Fry) over the concluding stages.
Jockey G. Cullen (TRAILBRAZERS) accidentally struck Jockey J Long with his whip a number of times when racing in close proximity of the final 50m.
