OCEAN EMPEROR – Trainer T Button was asked to comment on the improved performance of OCEAN EMPEROR in winning today’s event in comparison to the gelding’s previous start at Cairns on 3 March 2024 when it finished in last position. Mr Button stated that prior to the Cairns performance OCEAN EMPEROR had won its previous four starts in North Qld and believed that the gelding had raced flat on that occasion due to the 6 hours float transport from his Bowen base stables to Cairns. Following that disappointing performance Trainer T Button then elected to freshen the preparation of OCEAN EMPEROR and gave the gelding a three-week short break from which it had benefitted. The explanation of Trainer T Button was noted. Race 2: QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE 1000M FINSCEAL – Stood flat footed at the start and lost considerable ground before finishing well. Trainer T Button stated that the gelding was having it’s first race start for his stable since coming from Brisbane however stated that the gelding had been slow to begin at all its previous southern starts and advised that it was unfortunately a racing characteristic of the gelding. LISTEN LISTEN - Difficult to load which then delayed the start. Trainer A Molino was advised by Stewards that a final warning had now been issued in relation to the barrier manners of the mare. Mr Molino advised that he will seek Stewards permission to have the mare loaded first in all future starts to avoid such delays. OUT BACK BOOM – Raced ungenerously throughout and hung in badly at the 600 metres when tailed off. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised by Stewards that the mare will be required to complete a satisfactory barrier trial before racing again. The race was judged without the aid of the digital photo finish due to an equipment malfunction. Race 3: MAIDEN PLATE 1200M KANGALOON – Tired over the concluding stages and finished a considerable distance behind the remainder of the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer L Manzelmann was advised that KANGALOON will be required to trial before being permitted to race again.
