QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT BOWEN TURF CLUB SATURDAY 12th OCTOBER 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 3 RAIL – True. PENETROMETER – N/A OFFICIALS STEWARDS PANEL; R Neal (Chair); R Hanson and J McIntosh GENERAL Apprentice Mel Campbell reported that she was unable to claim her full allowance in races one, two and five on today’s program due to not being able to lose weight as anticipated. After considering all relevant factors, including being delayed when returning from the Cloncurry meeting the previous day, Ms Campbell was advised that she must ensure that her riding weight is reflective of her actual weight at all times. Race 1: BOWEN TYRE AND MECHANICAL BM45 HANDICAP 1,000 M CHALKLEY – raced ungenerously and got its head up when making the first turn. Apprentice Ms Gabrielle Semmens was reminded of her obligations to rider her mounts fully to the line when circumstances permit, after relaxing her ride when approaching the winning post.RUN RAMPANT – began awkwardly.When reviewing vision of the event it was established that CHALKLEY and RUN RAMPANT had started from transposed barriers, being that CHALKLEY had started from barrier four, instead of barrier five, and RUN RAMPANT had started from barrier five instead of barrier four. It was noted that neither horse was disadvantaged as a consequence of this error. The Club Starter was shown vision of the start and firmly reminded of his obligations. Race 2: WE3 GROUP QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1,200 M KOITAKI SUNDAY – jumped out abruptly hampering DIAMOND CODE and PRIDE AN’ JOY; raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.FAIRYBOWER FLYER – travelled wide throughout; lay in over the final 200 metres.PRIDE AN’ JOY – hampered on jumping.DIAMOND CODE – hampered on jumping.NOVEMBER FOAL – ducked in abruptly when struck with the whip near the 200 metres. Race 3: REEF SECURITY SERVICES OPEN HANDICAP 1,200 M MISTER LARRABEE – slow to begin.CHICKERATIE – began very awkwardly with rider Scott Sheargold becoming unbalanced for a short distance. Race 4: CLEANSKIN WELDING BM50 HANDICAP 1,280 M BIG TOWN – returned to the enclosure with blood present in both nostrils. – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr Stephen Bush was advised that for a period of 2 months BIG TOWN must not, without the permission of the Stewards, be trained, exercised or galloped on a racecourse, recognised training track, private training establishment, or other place and must not start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after a gallop of at least 1,000 metres or an official trial or jump-out in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward.VIVA AMERICANA – fractious in the barriers prior to the start; commenced to lose contact shortly after the start and was distanced at the finish – when questioned rider Ashley Butler stated that the mare had felt indifferent in its action during the early stages and had lost momentum entering the first turn, getting well back. Rider Butler added that he did then did not persevere with VIVA AMERICANA thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. Trainer Mr Troy Clive was advised that VIVA AMERICANA was required to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to next racing.Following the event rider Gabrielle Semmens was examined by the medical personnel and stood down from her remaining engagement due to a shoulder injury. Ms Semmens was advised that a medical clearance was required prior to her next riding. Race 5: LIBERTY RURAL BM50 HANDICAP 1,470 M DAWN STRIKE – held up for a short distance rounding the final turn.FERGYLISCIOUS – slow into stride.QUEENBEEL (NZ) – inclined to lay in over the final 100 metres. Race 6: HILLERY GROUP BOWEN CUP BM 55 HANDICAP 1,810 M DIASONIC – Apprentice Shae Nielsen replaced Apprentice Gabrielle Semmens. Began awkwardly; travelled wide throughout. Rider spoken to regarding tactics adopted.DEEL WITH ME – began very awkwardly and contacted the barriers losing considerable ground. When questioned, Apprentice Mel Campbell stated that immediately prior to release the gelding had turned its head, and she was in the process of straightening the start was made. Given all circumstances, including DEEL WITH ME record, a warning was placed on the gelding’s barrier manners. VIVACIOUS AWARD – travelled wide for the majority – rider spoken to regarding tactics adopted.Following the event Stewards, spoke with Apprentice’s Shae Nielsen (DIASONIC) and Isobel Jessop (VIVACIOUS AWARD) regarding the tactics both adopted in the middle stages of the race where they progressed forward wide on the track, when the Stewards believed other options were available. Both Apprentices were advised that they must consider all available options throughout the race and in particular, consider the consequences of expending their mounts energies when improving wider on the track.
