Maloney GENERALStewards permitted the following weight variations at todays meeting: Race 1: COYNES ROAD – Chris Meehan 55kg (+0.5kg)Race 3: As there was no other rider available, stewards permitted jockey P. Hamblin to ride MUSSELL LINES 3kg over its allotted weight.Race 4: THE CROW MAN – Chris Meehan 55kg (+0.5kg) Race 1: RES Open Handicap 1050 metres MUIRON – Slow to begin and then shortly after was tightened for room between COYNES ROAD which shifted in and MR BROSE, which shifted out after being bumped by BULLETIN, which in turn shifted out when bumped by TURBOART. Steadied from heels near the 850m when COYNES ROAD laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Shifted wider on the track rounding the home, forcing LAST ARMAGEDDDON wider on the track. HARD STRIDE – Underwent a pre-race vet inspection and was passed to race. Raced wide throughout. TURBOART – Bumped at the start. LAST ARMAGEDDON – Race wide throughout. Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn. BARCLAY’S BANK – Raced wide without cover throughout. Hung out and shifted very wide on the track rounding the home turn. Stewards advised trainer G. Schrader that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the gelding. BULLETIN (USA) – Bumped at the start. Checked near the 400m when improving onto the heels of TA CHANSON which had begun to weaken. MR BROSE – Race three wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. COYNES ROAD – Bumped at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: SEILERS TRANSPORT/PATRONS TROPHY Class B Handicap 1175 metres SEENUSCOMING – Jockey C. Meehan reported that the gelding was not comfortable on today’s track surface. DEVINE FALLS – Jockey M. Butler was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(5) for using the whip on 16 occasions in totality during the race. LONERGY – Slow to begin. Checked when tightened for room near the 50m. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey K. Gates, the rider of HOLY CHARIOT, pleaded guilty under the provisions of AR131(a) to a charge of careless riding, in that she failed to make sufficient effort to stop riding and straighten her mount, which shifted in resulting in FRIDAY’S JET being taken in, which forced PALENTIFUL in tightening the running of LONERGY which was forced to check when tightened onto the running rail and losing its rightful running. K. Gates licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence on midnight 13 May up to and including midnight 23 May 2023. EMIRATE PRIDE – Jumped inwards at the start. Steadied from the heels of HOLY CHARIOT rounding the turn near the 1000m. RASHEED – Jumped in at the start and bumped PALENTIFUL. PALENTIFUL – Jumped out at the start and bumped RASHEED. HOLY CHARIOT – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MOVE BEYOND – Apprentice L. Sykes was reprimanded under the provisions of AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance. Raced wide throughout. ROCKET RYAN – Steadied shortly after the start when DEVINE FALLS shifted in. Race 3: COMBINED BUSINESS HOUSES OF KINGAROY QTIS Maiden Plate 1175 JUNGLELAND – Slow to begin. MUSSEL LINES – Jumped out at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ROCK DREAMER (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SOMBANI – Jumped awkwardly and then stumbled when getting into stride. Near the 150m shifted out abruptly when placed under pressure. MONGOLIAN FLAME (NZ) – Steadied leaving the 1000m when racing in restricted room between BUCKLEYS and LARRIKIN REG which shifted in when bumped by SOMBANI. ABSALON TULIP – Raced wide throughout. Momentarily steadied near the 500m when ROCK DREAMER shifted in when placed under pressure. K. Gates the rider of ROCK DREAMER was advised to exercise greater care. LARRIKIN REG – Raced wide throughout. Hung out near the 400m until rounding the home turn and in doing so, forced ABSOLON TULIP wider on the track. Trainer P. Burns was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. MORE LIKE THAT - Slow to begin. Race 4: KEWPIE STOCK FEEDS BURNETT TO THE BEACH Ratings Band 0 - 60 Handicap 1175 metres Correct weight was delayed for stewards to consider an application from the connections of TICINO BELLE for the mare to be declared a non-runner on the basis it was not afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from all parties concerned including the starter and assistant starter, it was established that a barrier attendant at the request of the rider has assisted when the horse had its head turned and was leaning towards the side of the barriers. Stewards determined that TICINO BELL had all opportunity to jump with the field and therefore dismissed the application and gave correct weight on the judge’s placing’s. OAKFIELD COMANCHE – Jockey H. Phillips reported that her saddle shifted forward on jumping away and placed her at a disadvantage in the early stages of the race. TUSCANY BOUND – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. TELL THE WORLD – Forced wider on the track near the 900m. Race wide in the early stages. Raced wide approaching and rounding the home turn. CLEARLY GEORGE – Shifted away from the heels of MIRALIE near the 900m forcing TUSCANNY BAND and TELL THE WORLD wider on the track. THE CROW MAN – Began awkwardly. TRUE TALLY – Slow to begin. TICINO BELLE – Slow to begin. Race 5: KELLCO KIVESTOCK AGENTS BURRANDOWAN CUP Benchmark 55 Handicap 1740 metres CAIRNDOW – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey P. Hamblin stated that despite his urgings, the gelding was not able to keep up with the fast pace of the race in the early and middle stages. He added that he was able settle his mount into a comfortable rhythm near the 1000m and was confident that CAIRNDOW would be able to finish strongly due to the fast tempo of the race. He further added that he held a position on the rail to save ground rounding the home turn and that the gelding ran on well. IMPACTFUL – Slow to begin. CHOSEN DISTANCE – Jockey C. Meehan reported that the gelding travelled well in the early stages, however was under pressure from the 800m and failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. KNEZE – Over raced approaching the winning post and leaving the home straight on the first occasion. Raced wide for a majority of the race. EVRYNOW’N’THEN – Laid out under pressure near the 100m and bumped IMPACTFUL. SMASHING LUCAS – Held up for clear running from the 500m until near the 400m.
