QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRI COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT CLIFTON TURF CLUB CLIFTON – SATURDAY, 28 OCTOBER 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 3 RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. Henderson GENERAL Whilst conducting an inspection of the racing surface prior to the commencement of the meeting stewards identified a section of the track near the 1300m which was unsatisfactory. After remedial works were carried out by club officials, a further inspection was conducted by Stewards and senior riders with the racing surface being deemed suitable for the meeting to proceed. When no other rider was available, Stewards permitted the following overweight:Race 1, No. 3 REDVEDEV (NZ) – P. Hamblin +1.5kg over the allotted weight of 58.5kg Race 1: PB AGRIFIELD MAIDEN PLATE (1000m) MR EVANS – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 900m, when crossing to the lead, shifted in when insufficiently clear of TORRENTIAL, who was obliged to steady from heels. Apprentice S. Wilcock was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. Raced keenly in the lead thereafter. REDVEDEV (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. ST WOLFGANG – Began awkwardly and bumped CAXTON CURVE. TORRENTIAL – Raced keenly in the early stages. Obliged to steady approaching the 900m when MR EVANS shifted in. Commenced to over-race throughout the middle stages thereafter. Hung-in under pressure in the home straight. CAXTON CURVE – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. INSPIRED SHADOWS – Stewards permitted Apprentice T. Noble to claim only 1kg of her 1.5kg allowance when no other rider was available. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. POLYGAL – Blundered on jumping and subsequently settled further back than may have been expected. Raced keenly in the early stages. Performed below market expectations. Apprentice L. Barr stated the gelding was disadvantaged by its poor start and not being able to settled on-pace as per its usual pattern. A post-race veterinary revealed no significant abnormalities. WINDY WHEELS – Blundered on jumping. STORM THE BEACH – Jockey R. Jamieson reported she had made heavy contact when exiting the barriers with her left foot. GREEN PARK – Hung-out rounding the home turn. Race 2: FELTON PRODUCE / NUTRIEN / HARCOURTS CLASS B HANDICAP (1000m) CHISUM – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. RED SHIRAZ – Bumped rounding the home-turn. Momentarily placed in restricted room inside the 150m between LONERGY and SHE’S SO VAIN. SUPER EXCEPTIONAL – Began very awkwardly before being commencing to over-race. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Performed below market expectations. Apprentice O. Webb stated the mare’s racing manners in the early stages proved detrimental to its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SHE’S SO VAIN – Began awkwardly. SALOON GIRL – Change of Tactics: instructed to not lead as per its previous start. Settled back. Race 3: RAFF GROUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1100m) BEAU ARROW – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages. SIP IT SLOW – Began only fairly. Held up for clear running entering the home straight until approaching the 100m. CUSHY (NZ) – Eased down in the home straight. Apprentice A. Donald stated the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, however became under pressure rounding the home-turn and when concerned something may be amiss with the gelding, she elected to ease it down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. VICEMAN – Began awkwardly. HEART OF MARBLE – Awkwardly placed on the heels of BEAU ARROW for several strides approaching the 100m. MISSILES ARMED – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. EASY COME – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Race 4: PACIFIC SEES/ PURSEHOUSE RURAL CLIFTON CUP OPEN HANDICAP (1580m) Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the start regarding whether MOMACK had gained an advantage. Whilst Stewards acknowledged the gelding made slight contact with the front of the gates, it was of the opinion of Stewards that the gelding had anticipated the start and subsequently began significantly better than the remainder of the field, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. TINTINWIN (NZ) – Began awkwardly. MOMACK – Began awkwardly and shifted out. SPRINGTHORPE – Apprentice O. Webb advised that in her opinion, the gelding did not handle the back up from its previous start at Wandoan on 21 October 2023 and was further disadvantaged by the fast tempo set throughout the race. SIR PICCOLO – Began awkwardly before being hampered between runners. Raced keenly approaching the 1300m when being retrained to obtain a position with cover. OUR SPIDER – Stewards permitted Apprentice S. Wilcock to ride the mare at her minimum riding weight of 57kg when no other suitable rider was available. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered bilateral epistaxis for the first occasion. Trainer P. Edwards was advised of the provisions of AR79(4). JIMMY NEUTRON – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. EXTASSY – Stewards permitted Apprentice T. Noble to ride the mare at 56kg when no other suitable rider was available. Raced wide and without cover until the 1000m. SMASHING LUCAS – Apprentice A. Donald stated the gelding wasn’t suited by the fast early tempo and subsequently left without a finishing effort. Race 5: RAY BUNCH MACHINERY QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1580m) DUSTYIAM – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Apprentice J. McGrath reported that the gelding was inclined to lay-out throughout the event. EXPEDIENT CHOICE – Stewards permitted Apprentice T. Noble to only claim 2.5kg of her 3kg allowance when no other suitable rider was available. CHICKA – Stewards permitted Apprentice S. Wilcock to ride the mare at her minimum riding weight of 57kg when no other suitable rider was available. Apprentice S. Wilcock advised the gelding was inclined to lay-in throughout the event and proved difficult to ride out in the straight. MAGIC IN PARIS – Severely hampered on jumping when TING A LING shifted out abruptly and subsequently settled further back than may have been expected. TING A LING – Began very awkwardly, shifted out and hampered MAGIC IN PARIS. Commenced to give ground approaching the 400m. Finished tailed off. Apprentice A. Donald stated that the filly proved very disappointing. Connections advised that consideration would now be given to the filly’s immediate racing future. Nonetheless, Trainer M.
