GENERAL
 
As apprentice L Sykes was injured at trackwork on Friday 25th October, and apprentice Z Sprie was inadvertently declared as the rider on TELLS ME TO in Race 5 due to miscommunication, Stewards permitted riding changes as per the Race Day summary sheet.
 
On arrival on course the track was upgraded to a Good 3 at 11:00am.
 
 
Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE  1000 M
 
CACTUS CAN – Over the final 100m shifted in under pressure on a number of occasions obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten.
 
CASUAL MAN – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
NEW JET – Broke away from its attendant exiting the tie up stalls, cantered a short distance, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Kicked out behind the barriers and contacted TRUST IN A GALE.
 
TRUST IN A GALE – On arrival behind the barriers was kicked by NEW JET, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.Near the 700m steadied from the heels of POLLY PRINCESS which was taken in by NEW JET (S Apthorpe) which shifted in when not fully clear. S Apthorpe was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.Held up for clear running between the 400m and 250m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BAMBINO DI VINO – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Slow to begin.
 
 
 
Race 2: BENCHMARK 45 HDCP  1000 M
 
DONMORE GIRL – Slow to begin.Near the 600m checked from the heels of STOP THE ROT which hung out.
MONEY BEAR – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
MR EVANS – Jumped out at the start and bumped STOP THE ROT.Checked near the 500m whenSTOP THE ROT shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.
 
STOP THE ROT – Bumped at the start.Hung in and out throughout the race and was unable to be fully tested by its rider at any stage of the event. Trainer J Hanna was advised STOP THE ROT must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
 
LUMINOUS WATERS – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
VALAR DOHAERIS – Raced wide with cover throughout the event.
 
 
 
Race 3: BENCHMARK 45 HDCP  1100 M
 
MERCHANT MOON – After being loaded into the barriers became fractious, dislodged its rider and galloped a considerable distance before being declared a late scratching at 3:10pm by order of Stewards. On declaration of correct weight stewards all bets on MERCHANT MAN refunded in full and deductions of 12c win and 11c place applicable on all successful wagers placed prior to 3:10pm.
Trainer G Schrader was advised a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of MERCHANT MOON. Rider W D’Avila was examined by QAS staff and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements. A post-race veterinary examination of MERCHANT MOON revealed no abnormality.
 
As a result this event was delayed approximately 5 minutes.
 
HOLIDAY DREAMS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
GIDGET – Had a tendency to lay out at various stages of the event.
 
GAZZMAN – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
MISSILES ARMRED – Rider M Savva reported the gelding felt short in its action pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer P Fergusons representative was advised MISSILES ARMED would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start.
 
 
 
Race 4: OPEN HDCP  1580 M
 
SUNFALL – Held up and unable to improve for some distance leaving the 600m.
 
KORDIA – Forced wide rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PRIVATE BANKER – After being crossed by PESHWA near the 1100m, left a trailing position and progressed forward to race outside the leader near the 800m.
 
PESHWA – Crowded for room and hampered near 800m.
 
BARCLAY’S BANK – Checked near the 800m. At a subsequent inquiry D Bennett pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BARCLAY’S BANK which had to be checked and PESHWA, which was racing to the inside of BARCLAY’S BANK, being hampered when crowded for room. The licence of D Bennett to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 2nd November up to and including midnight 13th November 2024.
 
LITTLE SHOW – Slow to begin.
 
ARTIE’S DYNAMITE – As Z Sprie was to be overweight Stewards permitted M Savva to ride the gelding. Z Sprie was fined $200 under AR190(3).
 
 
 
 
Race 5: MAIDEN PLATE  1580 M
 
Declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing W O’Connell, rider of second placegetter SNAKESKIN, to view the photo finish image for first. After doing so correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings.
 
CATCH CRIES – Slow to begin.
 
CHICKA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MIDNIGHT SEAS – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
UNDERINVESTIGATION – Jumped out at the start.
