Race 2: HAMMER & CO CLASS B HANDICAP 1200m WAY OF THE DRAGON – Due to an administrative error the official Race Day Programme advertised the filly as racing in Blinkers. Stewards granted permission for the filly to race without Blinkers and on-course patrons were advised via public address. Trainer Mr. A Cameron was directed to correct the situation prior to the filly’s next race start. Fractious in the barrier and reared as the start was effected losing ground. Raced wide throughout. Mr. Cameron was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners. Race 3: CHARTERS TOWERS VETERINARY SERVICE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000m READY ZAIM FIRE - Connections advised Stewards that as the gelding does not respond to the whip, Jockey M Haley would be instructed not to use it in running. Race 4: BSNA BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1400m NIGHT ATTIRE - Was a late scratching on Veterinary advice at 1:30pm after becoming fractious and sustaining significant bruising to the off-hind cannon in transit to the race meeting. Trainer’s Representative Ms. C Royes was advised a Veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding again being permitted to start in a race. After inquiring into the reason NIGHT ATTIRE was left unattended on course during the meeting, Stewards fined Trainer Ms. S Royes the sum of $100.00 under the provisions of AR166. GOOD CATCH - Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. SPARE TICKET - Finished tailed off. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Ms. J Hassett advised Stewards that it is her intention to restrict the gelding’s future racing to non-TAB venues. Jockey G Watson advised Stewards the gelding had been reluctant to stretch out on the sand and may be better suited to grass surfaces. Race 5: MD HUNTER EARTHMOVING TOWERS CUP BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1800m EDEN ROAD- Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Trainer S Royes for the late declaration of G Watson as rider of the gelding. Slowly into stride. Raced in restricted room passing the 1600m when runners to the outside shifted in. Jockey Watson reported the saddle shifted soon after jumping placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. ISLAND BAR- Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. SPORTS TYCOON - Raced in restricted room and was taken in passing the 1600m when a runner to the outside shifted in. MR RESETTI- Stewards permitted Jockey S Sheargold to ride half a kilo overweight as no other rider was available. Nonetheless Jockey Sheargold was fined the sum of $200.00 under the provisions of rule AR190(3). Shifted in passing the 1600m placing runners to the inside in restricted room. Jockey Sheargold was cautioned and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.Stewards inquired into the reason SPORTS TYCOON (P Cullen) had to be restrained and lost ground passing the 1400m. It was established that EDEN ROAD (G Watson), which was being ridden under difficulty due to the saddle having shifted soon after the start, shifted out momentarily at that point of the race. Simultaneously, MR RESETTI (S Sheargold), which was racing in a 4 wide position shifted in whilst rounding the turn. As a result SPORTS TYCOON was placed in restricted room and had to be restrained. After viewing the patrol footage and hearing evidence from the riders involved Stewards were of the opinion the predominant shift was attributable to MR RESETTI and Jockey Sheargold was reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of rule AR131(a). In assessing penalty Stewards took into consideration the degree of the interference, Jockey Sheargold’s good record in relation to the rule, and the shift from EDEN ROAD which also contributed to the incident.
