Race Day Stewards’ Report Charters Towers Thoroughbreds Date: 07/03/2020 Weather: Overcast Track: Sand (Soft) Rail: True Stewards Panel: C Warren (Chairman), P Warren (Birdcage & 800m) Officials: D Viero (Veterinarian), A Lee (Swab Official), P Clark (Starter), G Evans (Judge), Stewards (Clerk of scales & Bookmakers supervisor) GENERAL Due to injury, Jockey R Nelson was not riding at today’s meeting. Rider changers were made as per race day summary. Jockey Nelson was advised a medical certificate would be required. Prior to the commencement of the race meeting Jockey/Trainer Ms. B Thomson was struck on the right arm by a horse in the race day tie-ups when attempting to apply a bandage. Ms.Thomson was examined by QAS officers and deemed fit to fulfil her engagements. Race 1 – Burdekin Brahmans Class B Handicap 1400m NOTORIETY- Slow into stride. RESINITE- Dwelt in the barriers. SAVVY HUSSLER- Raced wide the majority. Inclined to shift in under pressure in the home straight. SCHILL ROCK YOU- Raced wide the majority. FIRST TRAIN - Stewards acceded to a request made by Trainer Ms. S Royes that the gelding be permitted to race without Blinkers. This was announced by way of on-course broadcast. When interviewed by Stewards Ms. Royes advised that on reflection she may have erred when requesting the gear change and was subsequently fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR206(2). Race 2 – DLV & Capricorn Yearling sale Benchmark 55 Handicap 1200m DELTA MAGIC- After becoming cast in the barrier was declared a late scratching at 02:41pm. Prior to declaration of correct weight the following deductions were applied: 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets 18 cents in the dollor on the face value of place bets Trainer Mr. B Williams was advised the mare would be required to obtain two (2) further consecutive barrier certificates prior to again being permitted to start in a race. ANIMAL SPIRITS- Began awkwardly and lost ground. Compounded in the home straight. On return to scale Jockey Ms. B Thomson advised that the mare, after beginning slowly, had raced ungenerously in the middle stages due to the kickback in running. ANNE CATHERINE- Raced wide the majority SIMPLY MARVELOUS - Prior to the race Trainer Mr. B Williams advised Stewards it was his intention for the gelding to be ridden in a more forward position in today,s event if possible. This was announced by way of on-course broadcast. Raced wide the majority. Trainer Mr B Williams was reminded of his obligation under AR100 to convey this information to Stewards no later than 30 minutes prior to the race. Race 3 – Milestone Brahmans Maiden Plate 1000m JILTED GIRL- Stood flat-footed at the start losing ground. Trainer Mr. J Manzelmann was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners. ROCKET TO GLASCOW- Fractious in the barrier. Began awkwardly. Finished tailed off. Jockey Ms. C Jokic advised that the filly did not handle the soft track conditions. SASSI ASSASSIN- Bumped with another runner on jumping. BELAR BLUE- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Jockey G Goomany when questioned advised Stewards that he had been instructed to ride the horse positively and to have it prominently positioned in running contrary to its racing pattern at recent starts. Trainer Ms. S Royes was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR100 for failing to inform Stewards of the change in riding instructions. Race 4 – Annavale Brahmans Class B Handicap 1000m TRAVERS- The gelding, after resuming from an extended absence from racing, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to race. Slow to begin. AYLA’S ANGEL- Fractious in the barrier. Bumped with another runner on jumping. TOSS OF A COIN - Bumped with another runner on jumping. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities. LUCKY BEE- Bumped with another runner on jumping. KISS THE BOSS- On return to scale Jockey Ms. B Thomson advise her saddle had slipped on entering into the home straight placing her at a disadvantage. Race 5 – Somerview Brahmans Open Plate 1000m GINGERSNAP- Blundered on jumping. DISTRICT- Raced wide the majority. RAPT IN RUMBA - Finished tailed off. On return to scale Jockey Ms. N Nelson advised that when challenged for the lead near the 500m the gelding had failed to respond to her riding from that point. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr. R Nelson was severely reprimanded under the provisions of LR67 for the late notification of a rider.
