Race 1: MILRAY CONTRACTING / RJG BUILDERS CLASS B Handicap 1000M
WHITTLESFORD – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not raced for an extended period and was passed fit to race. Blundered on jumping. Laid in over the concluding stages.
EXTRA FREE – Slipped on jumping then bumped heavily shortly after the start, causing rider R. Wilson to be momentarily unbalanced. Raced wide in the middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed bruising on the left front cannon bone.
HARCASION – Lost its footing and blundered badly on jumping away.
MORE THAN YOU – Blundered badly on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages.
SMART THINKER – Blundered on jumping then shifted in when unbalanced bumping heavily with runners to its inside. Compounded passing the 700m and was pulled up by its rider shortly after. The gelding was attended to immediately by the on-track veterinarian with the outcome being that SMART THINKER had bled from both nostrils. Given that this was the second occasion on which the gelding has bled from both nostrils, it would now be subject to AR 79 (6) which states that if a horse has more than one attack of bleeding, then that horse in ineligible to start in any race.
JEWELMAE – Blundered badly as the start was affected. Finished distanced from the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant actions.
OLD FASHIONED ROSE – Slipped on jumping. Shortly after the start, severely hampered by SMART THINKER which shifted in after becoming unbalanced, resulted in OLD FASHIONED ROSE blundering causing the mare to be taken onto and bump heavily with EXTRA FREE.
CARVETI - Laid in over the concluding stages.
RED HOT LOVE – Bounded on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
TORQUE NOWOR NEVER – Blundered badly on jumping.
When returning to scale, several riders expressed concerns about their mounts slipping as the start as affected. Concerns were also expressed regarding the amount of kickback during the race. After reviewing the vision available, it was evident that the majority of the field had experienced difficulties jumping away through losing momentum on jumping. It was also evident that the amount of kickback be thrown back throughout the race was considerable. Following representations from the riding group it was determined that the track was not suitable for racing and resultantly, the remainder of the meeting was abandoned at 2:10pm.
