GENERAL:
Due to this meeting being transferred from Saturday 14 June to today, apprentices B. Newport and L. Tilley were unable to ride due to fulfilling their engagements at the Dalby race meeting. Rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: Tower Hardware QTIS Class 2 Handicap 800m

As apprentice J. King was not riding at the meeting, stewards permitted Q. Krogh as the replacement rider for STANDOVER.

Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of PLATTERS which was placed second, the opportunity to view the official patrol footage to establish if there were grounds to lodge a protest against the winner ROYAL REWARD. After viewing the available footage, connections decided not to proceed and correct weight was given on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

TELL ME NO LIES (S. Egan) stood flat footed and lost ground.

Leaving the 100m ROYAL REWARD shifted in and bumped PLATTERS (R. Cox).

Q. Krogh (STANDOVER) reported that his mount resented the kick back from the track during the race.

Race 2: Farewell & Good Luck Chris Blanch Class B Handicap 1000m

Stewards accepted the explanation from jockey W. Doyle with regards to him being dually engaged on SNIPPETSFILLY and OUR STROMBERG. R. Sue-San was permitted as the replacement rider for SNIPPETSFILLY.

The start of this race was delayed when SNIPPETSFILLY proved difficult to load. After taking evidence from jockey R. Sue-San and the starter, stewards established that SNIPPETSFILLY had been initially loaded into the incorrect barrier before then being removed. As there was specific instructions from the trainer to load the filly first due to its barrier manners, stewards took no further action against SNIPPETSFILLY when being difficult to be re-loaded into the barriers.

RED BULL (R. Cox) was slow to begin and muster speed.

At the start, CRAWS (J. Brand) was tightened for room between SNIPPETSFILLY (R. Sue-San) and SEQUAJAKE (R. Hancock) when both runners shifted ground. As a result of this incident, CRAWS lost ground.

CAPTAIN BERNIE (C. Bryen) was held up for clear running behind COME BY OFTEN (J. Rudd) from the near the 400m until rounding the home turn.

Trainer P. Townsend (OUR STROMBERG) was reminded of his obligations regarding the stitching of bandages. OUR STROMBERG was returned to the tie-up stalls to have both hind bumper bandages stitched.

Race 3: President’s Open Handicap 1100m

A pre-race veterinary examination of DOOEN which had not raced for a significant period of time subsequently passed the mare to take its place in the field.

DOOEN (W. Doyle) was slow to muster speed.

Near the 800m DOOEN shifted out forcing LA CLOISONNE (J. Brand) wider on the track. LA CLOISONNE raced wide for the remainder of the event.

Near the 200m LONE ASSASSIN (S. Egan) shifted out under pressure which resulted in the rider having to momentarily stop riding and correct his mount.

LA CLOISONNE laid in under pressure in the straight.

Race 4: Dick Leeds Benchmark 65 Handicap 1400m

KIRKHEATON (Q. Krogh) and TEAM THUNDERSTONE (J. Brand) were slow to begin.

Near the 1200m KEV’S DESTINY (G. Steele) was steadied between MANFRED THE MAN (S. Egan) and TERMS (W. Doyle) which shifted in. W. Doyle was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

WINDS ME UP (J. Rudd) made the home turn extremely wide.

CRAWFISH (C. Rogers) raced wide throughout.

Q. Krogh (KIRKHEATON) reported that he placed his mount under pressure from the 600m in accordance with his instructions however the gelding did not respond and proved disappointing.

C. Rogers (CRAWFISH) reported that her mount raced wide and did not travel comfortably throughout. She added that the gelding had been in work for a long period this preparation and felt that CRAWFISH may now need a spell.
