QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORTCENTRAL WARREGO RACE CLUB (CHARLEVILLE) Weather- Fine Rail-True Track-Good 3 (SAND) Officials-Chairmen of Stewards- R. HitchenerStewards- B. CookeClerk of Scales- StewardsVeterinarian- Dr. B BarkerStarter- R KingJudge- B. LinesBetting Steward- StewardsSUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Stable inspections were carried out on a number of stables with runners engaged at this meeting. As a result of these inspections, Trainers R Sullivan, J Patterson and L Baker were each fined $100 for failing to have treatment books. RACE 1: RIVERINA STOCK FEEDS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200M-TYCOON MEG- Began awkwardly, shifted out bumping another runner. PACIFIC PUZZLE- Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout.RACE 2: CHARLEVILLE CONCRETE /CHARLEVILLE TYRE SERVICE BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP 1100M-LEAVESDEN- Tightened for room at the start.MONTANUS- Raced wide throughout.RACE 3: FRANK CAVANOUGH MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 50 H’CAP 1200M-SUGAR LANE-Was declared a late scratching at 11:10am due to no rider being available.QAMAR- As there were no other rider available, S Egan was permitted to ride 1kg overweight. Jockey Egan was reprimanded. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Jockey Egan’s good record in relation to this rule. Stewards inquired into Jockey Egan’s riding from the 600m. Jockey Egan advised that near the 600m he received minor pressure from other runners and as a result was forced to ease. He added that rounding the home turn as he did not feel he was travelling well enough to improve into the race to the outside of runners, he elected to ride for luck and obtain a run between WONDERFUL WALLY and SECOND LOVE, however when SECOND LOVE shifted out, he was unable to obtain this run and as result he was held up for the remainder of the race. Stewards noted the explanation. ZAHA COUNTY- Tightened for room shortly after the start.HIGHWAY CHILD- Raced wide throughout.MISS DELIMA- Jockey M Palmer was reprimanded for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. RACE 4: BERNADETTE DOYLE ACCOUNTING/CHARLEVILLE PHARMACY BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP 1400M-TREMONT- Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.FRANKS- After racing ungenerously in the early stages was ridden forward by its rider and then raced 3 wide for the remainder of the event.LITTLE JATZ- Apprentice B Nothdruft was reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.RACE 5: BLUE HILLS THROUGHBREDS 2016 CHARLEVILLE CUP OPEN H’CAP 1620M-THE YOWIE- At the request of Trainer B Sheppard, was examined by the club Vet upon arrival at the course after the horse injured itself whilst being unloaded from the float in the days leading up to today’s race. The horse was again Vetted upon arrival at the barriers and on both occasions was passed fit to start.WHO’S NEXT- The start was delayed several minutes after the gelding became fractious in the barriers and a result cast a hind plate which required farrier attention. After the farrier work was complete, the gelding was then unable to be loaded into the barriers and was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 4:40pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on WHO’S NEXT be refunded with the following deductions to apply-1st- 10 cents the win, 15 cents the place2nd-11 cents the place3rd-13 cents the placeTrainer C Smith advised that WHO’S NEXT will be spelled immediately.Stewards questioned App N Morton (LOUPPY BEND) and S Palmer (BLUE JEST) in relation to the tactics adopted on both horses after they lead the field by a considerable distance setting a fast tempo in the early stages before slowing the speed passing the 900m. Both riders explained they were instructed to obtain forward positions and as a result rode their horses aggressively in the early stages to comply with these instructions. Both riders added that approaching 1400m the after obtaining forward positions they commenced to ease their mounts to slow the tempo, however it was not until near the 900m that they were able to slow the tempo to a more suitable speed. After having the opportunity to view the patrol footage both riders agreed with Stewards that they erred in not making a greater effort to restrain between the 1400m and the 1000m which would have afforded them a better run during the middle stages of the event. Stewards were however mindful of both rider’s inexperience as apprentice riders and for that reason took the matter no further.THE YOWIE- T Banks was reprimanded for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m A post-race Veterinary Inspection revealed the gelding to have suffered an off fore tendon injury. Trainer B Sheppard will be advised that he will be required to obtain a Veterinary Certificate for the horse prior to it next racing.WILD GODSON- Jockey S Egan could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance.LOUPPY BEND- App. N Morton was fined $200 for using her whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. SUMMARY OF ACTIONS CONCERNING LICENSEES- FINES-L Baker- $100. No treatment book.R Sullivan- $100. No treatment book.J Patterson-$100. No treatment book.Race 5- N Morton- $200.
