RACE 1: PRESIDENT’S MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
1ST – GOGOGREY 2ND – DENMAN DUDE 3RD – WOLLUMBIN 4TH – ACHILTIBUIE

DENMAN DUDE – Bumped at the start.

NEW MOON – Bumped at the start. Tightened for room and lost ground shortly after the start.

WOLLUMBIN – Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start despite the efforts of its rider. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

ACHILTIBUIE – Jockey C. Bryen reported at scale that the mare resented the kickback and was reluctant to stride out in the early stages; however, she finished off the race well and in his opinion would be better suited to races over a longer distance than today’s event.

RACE 2: WESTERN RURAL BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1200M
1ST –  CRAWFISH 2ND – ISSY COMMAND 3RD – KING COBIA 4TH – MISHANI CENTURION

WAYS AND MEANS – Raced wide throughout. Performed below market expectations. When questioned, apprentice D. Graham reported the mare had been working well in the lead up to today’s event, but did not travel comfortably at any stage and she could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ISSY COMMAND – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 800m.

KING COBIA – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 800m.

RACE 3: MURWEH SHIRE COUNCIL BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1400M
1ST – YOU CAN’T BE 2ND – FAST FELLA 3RD – SUIT 4TH – AUSTRALIAN VENTURE

No racing incidents.

Following the running of this race, the starter advised Stewards that barrier nine had been damaged when the barriers were moved between races. Consequently, barrier nine was not used for the remaining two races.

RACE 4: BRETT MOODY BENCHMARK 50 H’CAP – 1000M
1ST – BUSH BELLA 2ND – CUBA ROSE 3RD – BERNIN LOOSE 4TH – BIG BRITCHES

NORDIC QUEEN – Stewards permitted C. Dixon to ride the mare at 2kg over the allotted weight as no other riders were available. Pulled up near the 800m as jockey C. Dixon felt something was amiss with the mare’s action. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the mare to be sore in the off fore fetlock. Trainer W. Baker was advised he will need to provide a veterinary clearance prior to NORDIC QUEEN racing again.

BIG BRITCHES – Slow to begin. Apprentice N. Morton was dislodged after passing the winning post, and was uninjured.

AND JUBILATIONS – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey R. Faehr reported at scale that after shifting in in the home straight, the mare resented the kickback from other runners and was reluctant to stretch out.

RACE 5: DUNNES MEATS CLASS B H’CAP – 800M
1ST –  RAVELLING 2ND – BELLA SONG 3RD – BABY JAM 4TH – DOUBLE DOLLARS

SABOTEUR – Late scratching by order of Stewards at 11.30am as no rider was available.

THAT’S THE PLAN – Late scratching by order of Stewards at 10.50am as no rider was available.

ZIZOU SUPREME – Prior to the declaration of correct weight, connections applied to have the gelding declared a non-runner on the basis that barrier one did not open simultaneously with the rest of the field and ZIZOU SUPREME was denied a fair start. After taking evidence from starter E. Brassington and viewing the available race footage, it was established that barrier one malfunctioned and did not open until ZIZOU SUPREME lunged forward, resulting in the gelding losing significant ground. Stewards therefore declared ZIZOU SUPREME a non-runner and ordered all monies invested on ZIZOU SUPREME to be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

5 cents in the dollar for the winner #11
14 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner #11
12 cents in the dollar for second place #5
13 cents in the dollar for third place #7

RAVELLING – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with another runner.

THAT’S CORRECT – Bumped at the start.

BELLA SONG – Hung out badly near the 600m. Trainer’s representative M. Johnston was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.

BROWN CAVIAR – Had to be checked and lost ground near the 600m when BELLA SONG hung out despite the efforts of its rider.
