RACE 1: SUMMER BRIGHT LAGER MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
TRAIL BUSTER- Began awkwardly.
ZOOMESDAY- Began awkwardly.
AMLECK- Rider reported on return to scale that the filly failed to handle the prevailing track conditions today.
DENMAN DUDE- Stewards questioned App. N Morton in relation to the tactic’s adopted on gelding which established a considerable lead on the main body of the field during the middle stages of the event. App Morton advised that her instructions were to lead today’s event and for that reason, she rode aggressively in the early stages from the outside barrier to cross the remainder of the field. After having the opportunity to review the films, App Morton agreed with Stewards that after crossing to the lead near the 850m, she erred in continuing to ride her mount along, which resulted in her establishing a considerable lead over the remainder of the field, rather than restraining the filly which would have been more advantageous in allowing it to finish the race off stronger at the conclusion of the event. Stewards however bearing in mind App Morton’s relative inexperience as an apprentice rider took the matter no further.
RACE 2: GORDON LINES MEMORIAL RATINGS BAND 0-45 HCP 800M
MITCHY’S INSTINCT- Declared a late scratching at 2:05pm by order of the Stewards acting on Veterinary Advise after being kicked by another runner behind the barriers. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on the mare be refunded with the following deductions to apply-
1st- 10cents win, 11cents place
2nd-10cents place
3rd-9cents the place
CAPITAL TYCOON- Tightened for room near the 550m.
GOOD LUCK CHARLIE- Tightened for room near the 550m.
QAMAR- Checked near the 550m and lost ground. At a subsequent inquiry into the incident Jockey S Egan (WONDERFUL TESS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the terms of AR137(a) in that near the 550m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CAPITIAL TYCOON, QAMAR and GOOD LUCK CHARLIE resulting in those runners all being tightened for room and QAMAR being checked. Jockey Egan’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days commencing midnight 27 May 2017 and to expire at midnight 6June 2017. In assessing penalty Stewards considered the incident to be a mid-range however were mindful of Jockey Egan’s excellent careless riding record.
