ZAPATA FALLS- Stewards questioned App. J Brand in relation to her riding during the event. Apprentice Brand advised that she expected the gelding to obtain a forward position in the event however after beginning well the horse failed to muster the early speed she had expected and despite her efforts the horse settled towards the tail of the field. Apprentice Brand added that during the middle stages the gelding failed to travel on the bit and for that reason it lost contact with the remainder of the field. Apprentice Brand went onto to say that upon straightening ZAPATA FALLS then commenced to race more comfortably and ran on well when placed under pressure in the home straight. After viewing the patrol footage Apprentice Brand agreed with Stewards that from the 500m until entering the straight she erred in failing to place ZAPATA FALLS under greater pressure to improve its position, which may have allowed the gelding to finish in a better position. Stewards however bearing in mind Apprentice Brand’s limited experience as an Apprentice rider took the matter no further.

ROCK ON SKYE- Jockey P Romeo could offer no explanation for the poor performance.
