SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Stewards were advised by Trainer Mr Trevor Mead that his horses would not be running at todays’ meeting due to no suitable riders being available. Stewards accepted Mr Mead’s explanation.

During today’s meeting Trainer Ms Carmel Baker advised Stewards she would like to jump out two (2) of her horses after the last race. Jockeys C. Bryen and Apprentice Jockey Ms. D Graham were to ride Ms Baker’s horses during the jump out. On the way to the barriers, Jockey Bryen was dislodged from his mount and reported to Stewards that he had some neck pain and soreness. He was examined by the Ambulance Officers and advised he could not take part in the jump out. Jockey Bryen was advised by Stewards that should his condition deteriorate he would need to seek medical advice. As Jockey Bryen’s mount was not able to be caught when riderless in a reasonable time period, and owing to the fact there was only one other runner competing in the jump out, the Stewards cancelled the jump out.

Race 1: BOOKMAKERS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 METRES.

During the running of this event Trainer Ms R. Kerwin advised Stewards that her horse NZURI MWALI raced in Ear Muffs which should have been removed by staff at the barriers prior to the Race in accordance with the horses approved gear. Stewards observed the horse was wearing the gear on arrival back to the mounting yard. Further evidence was presented to Stewards and from Starter Mr R. King. Stewards acting under AR 204 (1) and on Ms Kerwins’ submission subsequently declared NZURI MWALI a non-runner with the following deductions applying:

1st- 19c win and 16c the place.
2nd- 16c place.
3rd- No Third Dividend.

Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr B. Johnson regarding the riding tactics used by (Appr.Jockey) Ms D. Graham on his horse OUR DESERT ROSE. Ms Graham held a substantial lead on the rivals and compounded to finish third over the final stages of the event. Mr Johnson advised that he instructed Ms Graham to take a forward position or to find the lead and he was satisfied with her ride today. Stewards accepted Mr Johnson’s explanation and took no further action regarding the matter.

Race 2: MURWEH SHIRE CLASS B HANDICAP 1100 METRES.

WILD JUSTCE- Bumped by another runner shortly after the start.

MOSS HEART- Jumped in and made contact with another runner. The Mare hung out over the final stages of the event. After the race when entering the pull up area Ms Graham was dislodged from her mount. She advised that MOSS HEART turned abruptly and she became dislodged. She reported that she was uninjured and that she was fit to ride for the remainder of the program.

VALPONS- Slow to begin.

Race 3: ANNIVERSARY BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000 METRES.

A representative acting on behalf of Trainer Mr Tim Higgins advised Stewards the Horse ANOTHER WEAPON suffered an injury when being unloaded from his float. The horse was examined by Veterinarian and found to be suffering from  a lacerated near hind fetlock and was declared a late scratching by Stewards acting on Vets advice at 1300 hrs. Mr Higgins will be notified as soon as possible that a Vet Certificate will be required before the horse is allowed to run again.

GOLOVKIN- Began awkwardly and lost ground shortly after the start.

ITS WANTED- Trainer W Baker was fined $100 for failed to produce the horse I.D card. Returned to the mounting yard with substantial blood coming from its mouth. The horse was examined by the attending Veterinarian and found to have a lesion on both sides outside the horse’s tongue. There was no evidence of blood emitting from the nasal area. Trainer Mr W. Baker was advised a Vet certificate would be required prior to the horse racing again. Stewards spoke with Jockey B. Powell regarding his riding over the final stages of the event. Jockey Powell advised Stewards that in his opinion he had placed the horse under considerable pressure over the concluding stages where it ran on reasonably. Jockey Powell was advised that Stewards would consider his explanation and contact him at a later date should any further action be considered.

EXCEED ALL ODDS- Failed to go the early speed and was tailed off from the 800 metre point of the event. The gelding travelled very wide over the final stages of the event.

GOLOVKIN- Stewards spoke with the Trainer Mr S. Rodgers and Jockey C. Bryen regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of the horse. Mr Rodgers advised that he expected the horse to do well today and was very disappointed with the run. Jockey Bryen advised Stewards the horse had blundered at the start and made contact with the barrier. He said the horse didn’t feel well today and was disappointing. A post race Veterinary examination failed to find any abnormalities.
