Race 2, No. 8 GILLICK’S WAY – Jockey J. Rudd
Race 5, No. 5 NICK THE SKIP – Jockey J. Rudd

The following runners were declared late scratching’s on Stewards’ orders at 12pm when there were no available riders:
Race 4, No. 2 OLY BOOM, No. 3 BUGDEN, No. 7 SCOTTISH FARMER

Race 1: CENTRAL WARREGO RACE CLUB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1000m)

UNRESTRICTED – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

BALTIMORE BULLET – Began awkwardly and blundered. Became awkwardly placed on heels soon after the start and obliged to steady.

OAKFIELD TARGET – Began awkwardly before blundering, and subsequently nearly falling, resulting in Jockey C. Bayliss being dislodged. Jockey Bayliss was immediately attended to by QAS officers and was deemed fit to fulfill his remaining engagements.

VAST KAMA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SWISS BABE – Knuckled on jumping before being bumped soon after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BAG OF WHITT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start.

HARAMAIN – Commenced to give ground leaving the 400m. Approaching the 200m, became awkward in its action, faltered, and fell dislodging Apprentice S. Zoljan. An immediate post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered a suspected cardiac event with associated bilateral epistaxis for the first occasion. Trainer C. Storch was advised of the provisions of AR79(4). Mr Storch was further advised that given the nature of the incident, a veterinary clearance including an ECG and endoscopic examination prior to a satisfactory barrier trial would be further required prior to racing again. Mr Storch advised it would be the stable’s intention to retire the gelding. The gelding continued to undergo further veterinary examinations throughout the day and was identified to be improving in its condition. A post-race sample was taken for analysis. Apprentice Zoljan was immediately attended to by QAS officers and was deemed fit to fulfill her remaining engagements.

Race 2: CENTRAL WARREGO RACE CLUB BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1200m)

TRANSCELTIC – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

IN AGREEMENT – Began awkwardly.

JOVIAL KID – When questioned regarding the performance, Apprentice L. O’Donnell stated in her opinion, the gelding failed to handle the softer track conditions.

BEST SIDE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.

BIONIC – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

JAMAICAN – Jockey D. Baker was severely reprimanded under AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finish. In assessing the matter, Stewards couldn’t be comfortably satisfied that the gelding would have definitively finished in 4th place, however, were of the opinion his vigour was far below the expected standard. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

GILLICK’S WAY – Began awkwardly. Commenced to give ground from the 600m. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey J. Rudd stated the gelding became under heavy pressure approaching the 400m, and when he then became concerned that there was something amiss with the gelding, he therefore elected to ease his mount down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer P. Townsend undertook to advise Stewards on the post-race condition and future plans of the gelding.

Race 3: CENTRAL WARREGO RACE CLUB QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1200m)

Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the footage of the start in relation to LONIESHA. Once satisfied that the mare dislodging Jockey J. Rudd was the result of its barrier manners and not directly attributable to any external factors, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

THE UPRISING – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

LONIESHA – Fractious in the barriers before rearing as the start was effected dislodging Jockey J. Rudd and subsequently taking no competitive part in the remainder of the event. Jockey J. Rudd was examined by QAS officers and deemed fit to fulfill his remaining engagements. Trainer P. Townsend was advised that the mare would now be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.

SOMBOR SHUFFLE – Stewards acceded to a request from Trainer M. Kropp to permit Apprentice L. O’Donnell to ride the gelding at the allotted 58kg and not claim 1kg of her allowance. Stewards accepted the explanation of Apprentice L. O’Donnell. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

TORELLIANA – Proved difficult to load delaying the start. Trainer C. Baker was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s record for its manners. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not raced in an extended period and passed fit to start. Began awkwardly. Shifted out abruptly under riding approaching the 200m, resulting in Jockey D. Baker becoming unbalanced. Jockey D. Baker reported the mare may have got its tongue over the bit in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: CENTRAL WARREGO RACE CLUB BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP (1400m)

Direct weight was delayed allowing Trainer W. Pugsley to view the photo finish for 1st. Once satisfied a margin was present, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

FROZEN PRINCE – Leaving the 100m, improved into a marginal run between READY MADE and LASCO, before becoming held-up on heels and racing in restricted room for several strides. Unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed on the heels of READY MADE.

LASCO – Began awkwardly and bumped.

PACKAGE – Slow to begin. Tailed the field throughout the early stages. Apprentice L. O’Donnell stated the gelding resented the kickback in the early stages, however after commencing a wide run from the 600m, the gelding then finished off the event well. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

HIDDEN EYES – Began awkwardly.

MURION – Hampered between runners on jumping and lost ground. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Jockey C. stated in her opinion, the gelding failed to handle the track conditions.

NICK THE SKIP – Gave ground leaving the 300m. Jockey J. Rudd could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Trainer C. Baker advised that consideration would now be given to the gelding’s immediate racing future, indicating the gelding would now most likely be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

PARKO – Raced wide and without cover until obtaining the lead near the 800m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

KAZZA’S JET – Jockey B. Richardson was reprimanded under AR210(1) for failing to weigh in when required to do so. Stewards considered the situation with attention to AR208 and after being comfortably satisfied that KAZZA’S JET had carried its allocated weight, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

Following the running of this event, Apprentice S. Zoljan was examined by QAS Officers and required treatment for dehydration and associated effects. Apprentice S.
