QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT CENTRAL WARREGO RACE CLUB CHARLEVILLE - SATURDAY, 26 OCTOBER 2024 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SAND RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. TicknerStewards – W. Glass GENERAL When Apprentice L. O’Donnell was indisposed due to illness, Stewards permitted the following rider replacements:Race 2, No. 1 BAPTIZED – Jockey R. Payne (no apprentice available)Race 3, No. 1 MON PIERRE – Jockey R. Payne (no apprentice available) Apprentice L. O’Donnell was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to race-riding again. When no riders were available, Stewards permitted the following runners to be declared late scratchings on Stewards’ orders:Race 1, No. 5 ALLDABURGERS, No. 4 ONE LAST TRICKRace 3, NO. 2 KUDU, No. 6 MISTREY EMPEROR Race 4, No. 1 GREEK STARRace 5, No. 2 EDWARDS, No. 8 MR DEMOLITION Race 1: MITRE 10 TOWER HARDWARE CHARLEVILLE QTIS BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP (1050m) ONE TUNE – Began awkwardly. Apprentice C. Stuart was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip on consecutive occasions prior to the 100m. DEEP MYSTIQUE – Slow to begin. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. SHRIMP – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room to the inside of TRANSITION for some distance passing the 400m. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice M. Mankelow stated that the mare proved disappointing when placed under pressure. Trainer L. Baker advised that consideration would now be given to the mare’s immediate racing future. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. BALEXIA – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. TRANSITION – Began awkwardly. Obliged to shift out from the heels of BALEXIA near the 400m to obtain clear running. GOLDIE’S POWER – Laid out under pressure near the 200m before being corrected by its rider. Race 2: SOUTH WEST FORD AND NISSAN MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) BAPTIZED – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Payne advised the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, however proved disappointing when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MUMMIFICATION – Began awkwardly before making contact with TIGER BEANS which shifted out. Laid in and away from ROGUE ARTIST for some distance passing the 1000m. ROGUE ARTIST – Shifted out when not fully clear of TRAPEZE FLYER near the 700m, which was obliged to check and shift wider to avoid heels. Jockey C. Rogers was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. In assessing the incident, Stewards noted that the racing manners of the gelding had contributed to the incident, as it had commenced to hang-out at that stage of the event. Trainer C. Rogers was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. TRAPEZE FLYER – Raced keenly in the early stages. Checked and shifted wider near the 700m when ROGUE ARTIST shifted out. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. TIGER BEANS – Began awkwardly and made contact with MUMMIFICATION. Race 3: CHARLEVILLE NEWS AND WARREGO COURIERS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1200m) Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the footage of the start in relation to MON PIERRE. Once satisfied that the gelding’s poor start was attributable to it turning its head over the off-side barrier partition just prior to the start being effected, and noting its third-place finish in the event under the provisions of AR204(1), correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. MON PIERRE – Turned its head over the off-side barrier partition just prior to the start being effected and subsequently began very awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. TURNSTAR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. TOUGH JUDGE – Stewards questioned Trainer V. Jones after Jockey B. Newport had been declared the rider of the gelding at acceptance time, before subsequently being replaced by Jockey T. Banks on Friday, 25 October 2024, and Jockey Newport subsequently being declared the rider on MAKERS, Mr Jones’ other runner in race. Mr Jones advised that following the services of Jockey T. Banks becoming available after a limited number of riders had been available at acceptance time, Jockey Newport was subsequently declared on MAKERS, when Jockey Banks’ advised he would be unable to fulfill the allotted weight of 56.5kg on that runner. Stewards accepted the explanation given when considering the limited number of riders at the meeting. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. MAKERS – Slow to begin. Eased down from the 300m. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Newport advised that the gelding became awkward in its action near the 300m, and for that reason he elected to ease his mount down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have been galloped on, on the near-hindleg. Trainer V. Jones undertook to report back on the gelding’s condition in the coming days. Race 4: HEATHER BROWN’S EMPORIUM & THE BUSH STORE OPEN PLATE (1400m) NICK THE SKIP – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. OAKFIELD TARGET – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. VOLDEMORT – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Newport could offer no tangible explanation, and expressed disappointment with the performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. KAZZA’S JET – Blundered on jumping. Laid in and away from OAKFIELD TARGET for some distance passing the 1000m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. PERFECT ENCOUNTER – Began awkwardly. Race 5: JIM PUGSLEY MEMORIAL BM55 HANDICAP (1625m) PACKAGE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MURION – After beginning well from an inside barrier settled further forward than may have been expected. AGRIMONY – Slow to begin. Raced wide and without cover from the 1000m. Jockey B. Newport was fined $500 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m, four more than permitted. In assessing penalty, Stewards noted the QRIC Rider Penalty Guidelines, the totality of his whip use (twelve occasions) and his record in relation to the rule. DERBARI – Began awkwardly. Commenced to give ground near the 400m and finished tailed off. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey T. Banks advised the gelding travelled well throughout the early and middle stages, however commenced to give ground near the 400m, and when concerned something was amiss with the gelding, he elected to ease it down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer B. Bowen advised that consideration would be given to the gelding’s immediate racing future, indicating it would now most likely be retired. Mr Bowen was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for the poor performance. BAUHINIA BEANS – Raced keenly in the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Payne advised the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, however proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight.
