GENERAL

1st March 2025- The starting time for race one was delayed due to riders expressing concerns about a section of the racing surface adjacent to the 600m. The area was affected by a malfunction to a sprinkler adjacent to the 550m point creating an extremely wet and boggy portion of the track. After inspecting the racing surface with riders, Stewards elected to allow the Club to perform remedial work to the affected area in an effort to improve the integrity of the racing surface.  Stewards inspected the track again at 1.45pm with riders and after consultation the riding group, in conjunction with QJA representatives, expressed continued safety concerns with the racing surface. Stewards by utilizing the QRIC Race Meeting Abandonment Policy were able to reschedule this meeting to Sunday the 2nd of March 2025 with the first race to commence at 9:30am.

2nd March 2025- Stewards with a number of riders inspected the area of concern and agreed that was the track was suitable to race as per the amended schedule. Due to the meeting being rescheduled Stewards permitted the following weight variations- Jky A Bakos- Schrapel +1.0kg in Races 3 and 5. Jky J Missen +.5kg in Race 5.

Race 1: R & P TAYLOR FENCING QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1050M

ADVERTISE- Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

FIELD OF MARS- Raced wide in the home straight, laid in for some distance in the home straight. Ran on well over the final stages of the event. Stewards acting under the provision of AR 75(1) advised Trainer Mr G Bignell that a Warning would be placed on the horse. Jky S Galvin returned to scale distressed and was examined by the QAS. Stewards acting under medical advice stood Jky Galvin down from his remaining rides for the remainder of the day. Jky Galvin was advised that he would require a medical clearance prior to returning to race riding.

SHARALANDA- A pre-race Veterinary examination was undertaken with the horse being passed fit to race at today’s event. Slow to begin. On returning to scale Jky J Missen advised Stewards that is horse slipped as the start of the race resulting in his mount racing at the rear of the field for much of the event. Due to the seemingly disappointing performance of the filly, Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination be undertaken. This examination revealed a sound recovery with no abnormalities being detected.

RACE 2: SHORT & SONS TRADE SERVICES CLASS B HANDICAP 1200M

PARISIAN ROCKSTAR- Began awkwardly. On returning to scale Jky M Gray advised Stewards his mount had slipped as the start was affected. And this contributed to his mounts seemingly disappointing performance today. Stewards noted his comments.

LEGISLATE- Stewards questioned Trainer Mr. W Baker in relation to the geldings improved performance today. Mr Baker advised he wasn’t surprised that his horse won the race as he had been working well, a change in gear helped, he had travelled well and due to the meeting being rescheduled was more relaxed today. The inside barrier and the pull in the weights, the good ride all combined made it difficult for them to beat him today. Stewards noted Mr Bakers comments.

Race 3: SWITCHED ON ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200M

TIME TO TESTIFY- Declared a late scratching at 10.10am due to Jky J Galvin being stood down by Stewards acting on medical advice. Jky Galvin was advised that he would require a medical clearance prior to riding again. No deductions applied due to no betting on the event prior to the horse’s scratching.

FREDDIE EDDIE- Held up when approaching the 1100m, over raced during the early stages of the event.

AURELIAN BLANC- Declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 8.10am due to no rider being available.

MUIRON- Raced wide for the majority of the event.

GLOBAL SENSATION- Became fractious in the mounting yard and made heavy contact with the mounting yard rail prior to leaving the yard. This resulted in the horse receiving a superficial wound to the upper chest area. Stewards acting on Veterinary advice declared the horse a late scratching at 2.27pm. No deductions were applied to the winner or placegetters due to no betting activity at the commencement of the race. Trainer Mr. R Connolly was notified by Stewards acting under the provision of AR75(1) that the Warning would be placed on the horse and under the provision of AR75(2) a Vet Certificate would be required prior to its next start.

Race 4: NHC AUTO REFRIGERATION BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1050M

TERAMBI- Bumped with READY MADE shortly after the start was affected and lost ground. Then was held up for a short distance at the 950m this resulted in the rider redirecting his mount to the inside rail racing one off the fence.

SEPARATIST- Stewards ordered a pre-race veterinary examination be undertaken due to a previous condition. This examination resulted in the gelding being passed fit to race today.

ALEACO- Raced wide for the majority of the event.

BAG OF WHITT- Began awkward with its head in the air. Laid out during the early stages of the event before being corrected by the rider.

Race 5:M & J PEARCE (ST MARY’S PRINCIPAL) OPEN HANDICAP 1200M

CAFFREY- APPR I JESSOP- Began awkwardly by jumping with its head in the air. Laid in during the early stages of the event. Raced at the rear of the event, began to improve into the race from the 400m and then raced on well over the final stages of the event.

GOLDEELUCK- Began awkwardly making contact with the barrier partition on jumping.

WITHOUT SHAME- Stewards after hearing a submission from Trainer Mr G Bignell declared his horse a late scratching at 10.10am due to the rider being medically unfit and with no other suitable rider being available to ride the weight allocated. No betting deductions were to apply as betting had not commenced on this event.

FREE STATE- On returning to scale Jky M Gray reported to Stewards that his mount had slipped badly in the barriers as the start was affected. This resulted in his mount racing disappointingly at today’s meeting. Stewards noted Jky Gray’s comments.
