Race 5 – Stewards concluded an inquiry into jockey J. Geppert’s riding of PREACHER BOY after a complaint was made by trainer S. Iverson on the day. J.Geppert stated that his mount was slow to begin and despite pressuring his mount, it was unable to take up a forward position as per his instructions and settled back in the field. He added that after pressuring his mount to the 1200m, he attempted to get his mount to relax in the back straight, however PREACHER BOY lost some ground and as a result he was forced to pressure his mount from the 800m. He further added that his mount commenced to make ground from the 800m and finished the race off well. Stewards in considering the evidence of all parties and viewing the available video footage before them, found that J. Geppert’s riding had not fallen below the standard expected that would render him culpable under the rules of racing and therefore took no further action.
Trainer S. Iverson pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(q) in that he conducted himself improperly by using offensive language towards jockey J. Geppert following a stewards inquiry. S. Iverson was fined $200.

DON'T TELLTHEGIRLS – Rider B. Powell was reprimanded for using his whip on more than 5 occasions in the forehand prior to the 100m.

Sexton was advised that ROSE RAKU would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before racing again.
Race 3: Greg & Karen Slater Benchmark 65 Handicap 1200m
On return to scale, J. Missen, rider of the second placegetter, GLENTHORN AVENUE, lodged a protest against INDUBIOUS (T. Brooker) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 200m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards' patrol film, it was established that INDUBIOUS commenced to shift out leaving the 200m and near the 100m took RIP RIP WOODCHIP out off its line, at the same time GLENTHORN AVENUE shifted in under pressure resulting both riders whip action becoming momentarily restricted. As this minor interference could not be solely attributed to the shift of INDUBIOUS stewards dismissed the protest.
Stewards ordered the late withdrawal of DESERT LAIR at 2.59 pm when the horse was found to be mildly sore in both forelegs. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DESERT LAIR be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
2 cents in the dollar for the Win #2
7 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
9 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3

Correct weight was delayed when, on returning to scale, M. McGillivray the rider of BLUE JEST, being declared the winner, was found to have weighed in, in excess of half a kilogram under its allotted weight. After taking evidence from M. McGillivray and trainer B. Johnson, stewards disqualified BLUE JEST from the race under the provisions of AR143(a). Stewards declared correct weight on the amended placing’s of: 1st – CANID, 2nd – SUPERCHEAP, 3rd - PALPITATE, 4th- LUNAR.
At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice M. McGillivray pleaded guilty of a charge under AR143(b) in that as the rider of BLUE JEST, he returned to scale in excess of a half kilogram under his declared weight which resulted in BLUE JEST carrying less weight than it should carry. M. McGillivray’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two weeks to commence at midnight 13 November and to expire at midnight 27 November 2014.
SPINADA – Slow to begin.
SUPERCHEAP – Improved onto heels near the 1000m and was steadied, shifted out forcing LUNAR wider on the track. When questioned regarding her riding from the 600m and also her vigour in the home straight, apprentice N. Morton stated that after racing wide on the track from the 900m, her mount commenced to hang out from the 600m and raced extremely wide despite her efforts. She added that she was obliged to put significant pressure on the inside rein rounding the home turn and once balanced rode her mount out hands and heels. Stewards in considering the racing manners of SUPERCHEAP and N. Morton’s relative inexperience accepted the explanation.
CARDICIAN –Slow to begin. Apprentice R. Payne reported her mount never travelled comfortably at any point and was under pressure from the 600m.
QUEENS LEGEND – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
