Trainer M. Race 1: Fyfe & Boodles Class B Handicap (1) 1030m

Correct weight was delayed for stewards to consider an application from connections to have SPECIAL ROSE declared a non-runner. After taking evidence from connections and the starter, stewards found that as the start was effected the barrier of SPECIAL ROSE failed to open with the other barriers resulting in the horse lunging forward, breaking the barriers open and losing significant ground. Stewards ruled that SPECIAL ROSE was not afforded a fair start and therefore declared the horse a non-runner. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SPECIAL ROSE be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

0 cents in the dollar for the Win #9
11 cents in the dollar for place of winner #9
12 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2
15 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #12

A report regarding SPECIAL ROSE breaking through the barriers initially before being returned to the barriers will be made to the chairman of Stewards at Racing Queensland. A post-race veterinary examination of SPECIAL ROSE revealed a superficial laceration to the nose.
