GENERAL
 
When D. Boutet was indisposed due to illness, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards’ race-day summary. Jockey Boutet was advised he requires a medical clearance prior to riding again.
 
Trainer G. Taylor was fined for $100 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of R. Wiggins as the rider of LANGLANDS and BOLD PEDRO in Races 1 and 2. In determining penalty Stewards noted Mr Taylors good record in relation to the rule.
 
Start times for all races were amended to commence back one time slot, with the last scheduled to be run at 5:41pm, as a result of delays concerning the arrival of the Veterinary Surgeon.
 
 
Race 1: SPECIALTY SERVICES QLD MAIDEN PLATE (1400m)
 
CASINO CAT – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide and without cover from the 600m.
 
ELECTRIC HASHMAL – Bumped approaching the 1000m. Laid-out under pressure entering the home straight. Bumped approaching the 200m.

LANGLANDS – Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn. Hung-out under pressure down the running before having to be corrected by its rider passing the 100m. Hung-out abruptly passing the winning post inconveniencing SUPER QUICK and having to be corrected by its rider,. Trainer G. Taylor was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record.
 
NYTHE – Slow to begin and lost ground. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
THOMAS MAX – Raced keenly in the early stages. Bumped approaching the 1000m. Laid-out under pressure entering the home straight. Bumped approaching the 200m.
 
ABSOLVE – Apprentice T. Noble was fined $100 under AR143(14)(a) for only claiming 2.5 of her 3kg allowance. Bumped on jumping. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Trainer R. Hay was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for its racing manners.
 
NAVILLUS BUDDY – Slow to begin.
 
SUPER QUICK – Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced passing the winning post when LANGLANDS shifted out abruptly.
 
LUVYABUNCHES – Shifted out and away from another runner soon after the start.
 
Following the running of this race, the racing surface was upgraded to a Firm 2.
 
 
Race 2: SHERATON GROUP SERVICES OPEN HANDICAP (1400m)
 
MOSCINI – Reluctant to load. Bumped on jumping. Held-up rounding the home-turn. Momentarily raced in restricted room leaving the 200m.  
 
BOLD PEDRO – Bumped rounding the home-turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey R. Wiggins was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions, one more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
 
THE TYLER – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LOUIE LA'JOY – Bumped rounding the home-turn.
 
SUBSTITUTION – Bumped on jumping.
 
 
Race 3: WESTERN DOWN CIVIL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1030m)
 
MOMACK – Began awkwardly. Held-up rounding the home-turn.
 
AIN'T SHE LOVELY – Bumped on jumping.
 
LATENIGHTTOUGHGUY – Trainer C. Geran was fined for $200 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on the gelding.
 
BAG OF WHITT – Began awkwardly.
 
EASY COME – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Approaching the 600m, when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover, laid clipped the heels of another runner and blundered. Stewards advised Apprentice L. Barr to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.  Laid-in under pressure down the running proving somewhat difficult to ride-out.
 
 
Race 4: THANK YOU SANDY SUEY & COL ASPINALL - HAPPY RETIREMENT CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1030m)
 
FROZEN MISS – Began awkwardly. Passing the 300m, shifted out and around heels to improve, carrying SCREAMING DIVA wider across the running of REDVEDEV, causing that runner to be steadied from heels and shifted wider. Jockey G. Cartwright was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. Held-up for clear running for a short distance on straightening before shifting wider. Laid out under pressure for short distance thereafter, momentarily hampering REDVEDEV passing the 150m.
 
SCREAMING DIVA – Bumped on jumping. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the hind-legs consistent with being galloped on. Apprentice R. Thorburn stated the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action and may have resented the firmer track conditions. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
RED NEBULA – Became awkwardly on placed on heels shortly after the start. Raced keenly on heels near the 600m for some distance.
 
MURPHY'S RIVER – Bumped on jumping. Laid in rounding the home-turn and under pressure down the running.
 
MISSILES ARMED – Began awkwardly before being crowded between runners and losing ground.
 
REDVEDEV (NZ) – Momentarily hampered passing the 150m.
 
 
Race 5: THE CLUB HOTEL CHINCHILLA QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1030m)
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing Trainer of fifth place-getter, SHINTARO LASS, Mr S Kirkwood to view the photo finish. After viewing the official photo Mr Kirkwood was satisfied with the result and correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.
 
SUPER RUPERT – Bumped approaching the 800m before becoming awkwardly placed on heels. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
ALL ABOUT HIM – Obliged to check off heels shortly after the start when runners to the inside shifted out abruptly. Laid-out passing the 500m. Performed below market expectations. Jockey L. Tilley reported the gelding failed to handle the firm track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
KOBE ASCOT – Apprentice O. O’Donnell reported the gelding was inclined to race greenly throughout the event.
 
ONOMATOPOEIA – Tightened between runners shortly after the start and obliged to restrain off heels. Apprentice A. Graham reported the gelding was inclined to race greenly throughout the event.
 
BASIL'S GIFT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Dislodged its near-side bubble cheeker enroute to the barriers before being refitted. Jockey G. Cartwright reported the gelding hung-out throughout the event.
 
DAYTONA GAL - Apprentice T. Noble was fined $100 under AR143(14)(a) for only claiming 2kg of her 3kg allowance. Bumped approaching the 800m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
MESAYSO – Began awkwardly and bumped. Obliged to restrain off heels and shift in abruptly shortly after the start.
 
FITASAFIDDLE – Began awkwardly before being hampered between runners and obliged to steady. Over-raced throughout the early and middle stages. Reluctant to improve between runners passing the 100m and continued to to do so over the concluding stages.
 
SHINTARO LASS – Soon after the start shitfted out marginally when being ridden positively in an effort to to obtain a forward position. Jockey M. Savva reported following the event she had been struck in the chin by the gelding when it had been fractious leaving the mounting yard. Jockey Savva was examined by QAS officers and deemed fit to fulfill her remaining engagements.
 
TETCHY – Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
BOLD TONTO – Shifted ground under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
Race 6: WESTERN DOWN CIVIL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1400m)
 
TELL THE WORLD – Very slow to begin and lost ground. Trainer R. Hay was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record. Laid-out rounding the home-turn. Apprentice T. Noble was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on seven occasions, two more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
 
STORMTROOPER – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Shifted in and away from another runner soon after entering the home straight hampering STRYKING PRINCESS. Apprentice J. Metcalfe was advised to exercise greater care and straighten her mounts sooner in similar circumstances.
 
ANDAI STEPPES (NZ) – Trainer A. Park reported that, in her opinion, the gelding is better suited over further distances and will derive a fitness benefit from the run.
 
DENMAN BLUE – Began awkwardly and bumped. Over-raced throughout the early and middle stages. Laid-out rounding the home-turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Jockey L. Tilley advised that, in his opinion, the gelding failed to handle the firmer track conditions. Laid-out rounding the home-turn.
 
CLEARLY GEORGE – Shifted in under pressure soon after straightening, momentarily hampering STORMTROOPER. Jockey N. Fazackerley was advised to exercise greater care and straighten his mounts sooner in similar circumstances. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
STRYKING PRINCESS – Bumped on jumping. Obliged to be shifted in and away from heels soon after entering in the home straight.
 
UPTOWN LUCY – Was declared a late scratching at 5:26pm after refusing to load into the starting barriers. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the mare were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions to be applied to all successful wages prior to 5:26pm:

Trainer S. Sixtus was advised the mare would be required to gain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
 
Race 7: RSL CHINCHILLA CLASS 3 PLATE  (1200m)
 
BALTIMORE BULLET – Began awkwardly.
 
CADOUIN – Began awkwardly.
 
ROSE OF TAORMINA – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey L. Tilley could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
DUSTINS – Began awkwardly.
 
GHETTO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
WITNESS ATTACK – Shifted behind runners from the wide barrier in the early stages. Laid in under pressure down the running. Apprentice R. Thorburn stated the intent had been to settle further forward, however with the lack of early speed and the wide gate he subsequently elected to obtain a position with cover. App Thorburn added that, in his opinion, the gelding races best when able to obtain a more forward position. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
