22nd June 2024

WEATHER – Fine
TRACK RATING –  Dirt
RAIL – True

OFFICIALS

Stewards – S Larkins, E Suli

GENERAL
The following runners were scratched at 8am due to no available riders; race 3 JUST FRANK and race 5 OUR HEART THROB.

Race 1: COOVIN PASTORAL BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1000M

Correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice M Apel (TUPELAWARA) placed second by the judge, to view the available replays in relation to possible grounds for a protest regarding a matter near the 800m. After viewing the replays Ms Apel declined from proceeding and correct weight was given on the judge’s numbers.

DEELOSH – Began awkwardly.

TUPELAWARA – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

RELICTA – Slow to begin.

IAMRUSTYPARKER – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

TEST OF WAR – When queried regarding the performance jockey E Bell advised that the gelding is better suited in races over a greater distance than that of today’s event.

Race 2:CLERMONT CONCRETE Maiden Plate 1000M

THE HACKNEYDIAMOND – Began awkwardly.

FILLI ROCKET – Slow to begin.

KUROMI SAMA – Delayed the start when refusing to load. Declared a late scratching at 1.48pm by order of stewards and has now been stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory barrier trial. All bets placed on KUROMI SAMA were ordered to be refunded in full and successful win bets paid less 19 cents and all place bets paid less 20 cents in the face value of the ticket.

STILLWATER – Slow to begin.

CERARED – Apprentice M Apel was permitted to ride claiming 1.5kg of her 2kg allowance. Ms Apel was reprimanded under AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim her full allowance.

TOHUKU – Commenced to buck soon after the start and dislodged apprentice T Orr. T Orr was examined by the QAS officers, including a concussion test, and cleared of any injuries or signs of concussion. Apprentice T Orr was cleared to take his remaining rides. TOHUKU has been stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial.

Race 3: CAPRICORN BULK HAULAGE BENCHMARK 45 Handicap 1200M

BIONIC – Slow to begin.

FROSTWOOD – Fractious in the mounting yard and was initially reluctant to proceed onto the track. The tongue tie was removed from the gelding and it then behaved more tractably. Trainer Glenda Bell was granted permission for the gelding to race without a tongue tie and will enact the appropriate change for official purposes. Bounded in the air on jumping.

CHALKLEY – Slow to begin.

ALL BUSINESS (NZ) – Jockey C McIver viewed to replays of the run to the finish prior to correct weight and established he had no grounds for a protest.

PRUDISH – Trainer G Bell advised that she has been disappointed with the mare’s recent performances and may review the future racing plans of PRUDISH.

SHE’S OUR EMPRESS – Jockey E Bell reported that the mare was beaten for speed and will benefit from racing fitness after having not raced for more than six months.

ROWBOSITI – Declared a late scratching at 1.20pm on veterinary advice after being fractious in the float and suffering abrasions and grazes to the near side hip area. Trainer D McKinnon was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the mare racing again.

QUEENSLANDER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 4: CHARLIE FLOHR MEMORIAL CLERMONT CUP OPEN Handicap 1400M

FAB’S COWBOY – Raced wide throughout.

GRAND DE LAGO – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.

OUTBACK ACTION – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

KOTABHARU – Apprentice S McCann was permitted to ride claiming 1.5kg of her 2kg allowance. Ms McCann was reprimanded under AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim her full allowance. Slow into stride.

ONCHAO – Slow into stride and raced wide throughout.

Race 5:TERRACOM RESOURCES QTIS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1400M

The start was delayed when the starter sought confirmation of the correct barrier order and as a result a number of runners were taken from the barriers and reloaded in the correct order.

FROZEN PRINCE – Bumped at the start with CASA FAGLIANO.

CHILLI PLAMER – Raced wide for the majority.

COCO CUBER – Slow into stride and raced wide throughout.

TORQUE ESPAGNA – Slow into stride. Lost contact with the main body of the field in the early stages and then took no competitive part in the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Apprentice S Bailey advised that the mare resented the kick back and refused to respond to her efforts until late in the race. Trainer J Manzelmann advised that he instructed the rider that if the mare commenced to resent the kick back she would have to try and avoid it and in his view the instructions may have been taken literally with TORQUE ESPAGNA being permitted to trail out. The trainer further added that at its most recent start on a dirt track the mare had performed well after trailing runners during the run. While stewards could not be overly critical of the efforts of apprentice S Bailey, given her lack of experience, considering all circumstances stewards elected to issue a warning against the racing manners of TORQUE ESPAGNA.

LET’S ROLL – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness to the right foreleg and trainer L Wright was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again.

CASA FAGLIANO – Bumped with FROZEN PRINCE at the start.

VOLARCHI – Raced wide throughout. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

TOM ROCKS – Apprentice S McCann reported that the mare resented the kick back and for this reason elected to shift wide on the track over the final 400m.
