Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by J. Baker, rider of second placegetter NANNA BAX, against first past the post BITTERBLUE(NZ) (D. Smith) alleging interference over the final 100m. After taking evidence from riders, respective trainers whom were acting in the interests of their owners and after viewing the patrol footage, BITTERBLUE(NZ) marginally rolled out approaching the winning post as NANNA BAX laid in under pressure in the straight. Stewards when considering the one and three-quarter length margin, alleged interference suffered and proximity to the finishing line, were not satisfied to the requisite standard and dismissed the objection, declaring correct weight on the Judges placings.
ORCUS –Bumped with FRANKLIN RIVER on jumping. Rounding the home turn, was contacted by BITTERBLUE(NZ) when racing in restricted room, resulting in the geldings’ hindquarters being turned out and as a result became awkward in its action momentarily.
FRANKLIN RIVER –Stewards permitted rider Miss S. Nielson to ride the mare at the allocated weight and reprimanded her for not being able claim her full apprentice allowance (3kg). Bumped with ORCAS on jumping.
BITTERBLUE(NZ) – Rounding the home turn, contacted ORCUS, who’s hindquarters were turned resulting in the gelding becoming awkward in its action. D. Smith was reprimanded under AR131(a) and was advised to exercise more care when racing in restricted room. Rolled out approaching the winning post.
ROUGH EDGES – As the gelding had not raced for an extended period of time, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
