ALLANON – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Taken wider in the early stages after resenting the kickback when behind runners. Finished distanced from the field. When questioned on the performance, jockey J. Babarovich reported that the gelding failed to stretch out at any stage stated and that it felt uncomfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off-side hind. Trainer R. Burow was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to ALLANON next racing.

BURNT BUTTER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having broke through the barriers prior to the start and was passed fit to race. Slow into stride.

ZUMIKON – When racing three-wide, faltered in its action and fell passing the 400m dislodging jockey T. Hill. Jockey T. Hill was attended to by QAS staff and was experiencing abdominal and chest pain before being transported to hospital for further observations. A veterinary examination of ZUMIKON revealed a compound fracture to the right-side femur and the gelding was euthanized.

ONTHETAKE – Stood flat-footed at the start and refused to leave the barriers taking no part in the event. A representative for trainer T. Parry was advised that ONTHETAKE would be required to complete a satisfactory trial or jumpout prior to racing again.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by rider J. Babarovich, the rider of LAST DESCENT, which finished 2nd against THERESABEARINTHERE (S. Mcgovern) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference near the 1000 metres. After hearing all evidence and viewing the available patrol footage, stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judges’ numbers.
