STEWARDS REPORT CALLIOPE JOCKEY CLUB – TUESDAY, 26 DECEMBER 2017 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – FIRM (2) RAIL – TRUE ENTIRE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Mr L CollinsSteward- M. Heath Clerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – ClubVeterinarian – K ThompsonStarter- B. Lisle Race 1: Ironmonger Shipping Class 3 Plate- 1000 metres LEASE OF LIFE- Declared a late scratching at 8.14am. The explanation of Trainer D Gardiner was accepted. CAPTAIN ADRIATIC- Slow into stride. Taken wider near the 300 metres. DAVEY- Hung out approaching the 300 metres and took another runner wider on the track. TELLOFF- Apprentice H Phillips reported that near the 800 metres, her mount become awkward when it reacted to brushing the running rail. Apprentice D Graham viewed the photo finish image for first prior to the declaration of correct weight and was satisfied as to the judge’s placings. Race 2: Ulton QTIS Maiden Plate- 1000 metres CADE’S CRUSADER- Underwent a veterinary inspection having not started since 29 October, 2016. Passed to take its place in the field. RACEY CHICK- Fractious behind the barrier. Pulled the bridle off and escaped riderless. On being captured, the mare was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 2.12pm. All bets on RACEY CHICK were to be refunded and any successful bets were to be paid less the following deductions; 19c Win and 21 cents Place. Trainer D Schultz was advised that the mare must officially barrier trial prior to its next race start. CRAIGLEA PATIENCE- Raced wide for the majority of the race. SALTY’S BOY- When the start was effected, the gelding had turned its head and as a result missed the start and lost ground (6 lens).Following the running of this race, Stewards spoke to and admonished the clerk of the course for his actions in attempting to re-capture RACEY CHICK. A report on this incident will be sent to QRIC and Racing Queensland. Race 3: Calliope Central Bowls Club Class B Handicap- 1072 metres PEARL’S LAD- At the start, contacted by another runner and lost some ground. LIGHTNING ARTIST- Slow into stride. YEEZY- Raced wide without cover throughout. MANDOLIN MANNI- Jumped awkwardly outwards. DUBLE MEANING- Prior to correct weight, rider and Trainer viewed the photo finish image for second and after doing so, were satisfied with the judge’s placings. Apprentice Phillips reported that her mount become unbalanced and lost some ground near the 850 metres when it struck a softer patch on the track. Remedial work completed on this section prior to Race 4. Race 4: Rayment Excavations Open Handicap - 1072 metres MIDNIGHT CURFEW- Began awkwardly and jumped in. Raced wide throughout. JEB’S BOY- Contacted and tightened onto TIN’S POCKET. TIN’S POCKET- Hung out near the 300 metres. Race 5: Calliope Rural Traders Gold Cup BM 55 Handicap- 1608 metres INFANTRY- Shortly after the start, tightened between MURPHY’S HUSTLER, which shifted out slightly, and COME BY OFTEN, which was taken in by RUFFY ROAD. Apprentice E Smith was advised to use a greater effort to prevent her mount from shifting in. RUFFY ROAD- Knuckled on jumping. COOL DAYS- Raced wide for the majority of the race. COME BY OFTEN- Raced wide throughout. Jockey M Haley was cautioned for to his comment to another rider shortly after the start.
