WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD
RACE 1: MAIDEN PLATE - 1250 METRES - 12 STARTERS
J. Dickinson (ANOTHER IRGUN) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (A.R. 137(a)) in that near the 1200 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of AMBER HUE (J. Stopps), which was checked and taken in onto ZIPPY DAN (R. Bellert), which was checked and lost its position. J. Dickinson was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight 9th August 2003, up to and including 16th August 2003 (2 meetings).
At the 1000 metres ANOTHER IRGUN (J. Dickinson) shifted in and dictated LADY IVY (S. Thurlow) in onto INCOME SOURCE (W. Kenning), which in turn shifted in onto PRINCE OF CENTRES (App. L. Buckingham), which was also taken in onto PHANTOM LYRIC (D. Canny), which was checked. Stewards acknowledged that BOLD TACTICS (D. Crossland) had shifted out slightly and may have contributed to the interference to PHANTOM LYRIC. In the circumstances J. Dickinson was given the benefit of a very grave doubt and issued with a severe reprimand.
Jockey J. Dickinson (ANOTHER IRGUN) was cautioned and reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out right to the finish.
Near the 200 metres PRINCE OF CENTRES (App. L. Buckingham) laid out.
On straightening INCOME SOURCE (W. Kenning) shifted in and inconvenienced BOLD TACTICS (D. Crossland). W. Kenning was advised to show more care in future.
RACE 2: CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1250 METRES - 8 STARTERS
LE COUP (S. Morris) began awkwardly.
In the early stages VARMINT (A. Merritt) overraced.
RACE 3: CLASS 3 PLATE - 1000 METRES - 12 STARTERS
Approaching the 700 metres ZEDAFFAIRS (S. Campton) shifted in and dictated the running of ERIN'S DELIGHT (S. Morris), which in turn shifted in and inconvenienced PAPILLO (G. Kliese). Stewards acknowledged that S. Campton had restrained his mount and attempted to prevent it from shifting ground.
Just prior to the winning post ERIN'S DELIGHT (S. Morris) shifted out and made contact with BAZZA'S TIME (D. Dean).
RACE 4: CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES - 14 STARTERS
As J. Dickinson, the declared rider for BIG DIAMOND, was to be overweight, R. Ballard was substituted. J. Dickinson was fined $50 for being overweight (A.R. 120(b)).
As the start was effect STONEY PLANET (M. Elliott) jumped outwards and made contact with FARCICAL (S. Thurlow), which in turn shifted out and inconvenienced ZAAJER (App. K. Penrose).
In the early and middle stages ZAAJER (App. K. Penrose) overraced and near the 1000 metres knuckled.
At the 400 metres KLOCCO (G. Kliese) shifted in and inconvenienced STONEY PLANET (M. Elliott), which had to be steadied. G. Kliese was advised to show more care.
RACE 5: OPEN HANDICAP - 1400 METRES - 14 STARTERS
Jockey J. Dickinson, the declared rider for CARBON GOLD, was fined $50 for being overweight (A.R. 120(b)). G. Kliese was substituted as the rider of CARBON GOLD.
Trainer S. Potiris was fined $100 for presenting STRICTLY SMART late into the enclosure (A.R. 124).
The starting time of the race was delayed as a number of horses had to be reloaded into the barriers.
In the early and middle stages CHOKWE (R. Ryan) overraced.
At about the 1000 metres CHARLIE HORSE (M. Elliott), which was racing ungenerously, had to be restrained and was obliged to race in restricted room when MALLET (W. Kenning) shifted in momentarily.
RACE 6: OPEN CAIRNS CUP - 2100 METRES - 14 STARTERS
When the start was effected BONZERO (S. Campton) stood flat-footed and lost considerable ground.
Leaving the straight for the first time GROWING CONCERN (I. Toward) got on the wrong leg, hung off the track and had to be restrained.
Near the 450 metres BONZERO (S. Campton) made the crossing ungenerously. At the same time GROWING CONCERN (I. Toward) shifted in, obliging PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE (D. Canny) and BONZERO to race in restricted room. As a consequence BONZERO had to be restrained.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed that HIRSCHBERG was lame.
RACE 7: CLASS 6 PLATE - 1000 METRES - 9 STARTERS
Approaching the home turn ACES BLACK (R. Bellert) ran off the track, taking JUNKETS (App. K. Penrose) wider.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
