Simmons was unable to fulfil his engagements due to transport difficulties, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. >> RACE 1: Charles Woodward Couch Memorial/Underwood Maiden Plate - 1250 metres HEART OF THE MAC - Began awkwardly. Hung out severely near the 1000m hampering other runners. Bumped with another runner at the 400m. Raced greenly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr R. Chillemi was advised that the horse will be required to trial satisfactorily prior to being permitted to race again. NICE TO DREAM - Crowded between runners at the start. BE WHY OH - Shifted in at the start, crowding another runner. WATCH ME DAZZLE EMM - Began awkwardly and was bumped by another runner soon after the start. Hampered by another runner, which was forced wider near the 1000m. CHEERS FOR AUSBRED - Near the 1000m forced wider by another runner, which was racing greenly, and raced wide for the remainder of the event. Bumped with another runner near the 400m. ARNO BAY - Raced greenly throughout.. Jockey S. Wilson was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for excessive use of the whip on the gelding prior to the 100m. Stewards considered S. Wilsons recent good record in relation to this rule. CENTRE RED - Slowly away. Had to be checked near the 1000m and had difficulty obtaining clear running soon after entering the home straight. Raced greenly throughout. EXIT LOUNGE - Apprentice A. Thomson was fined $100 under A.R. 92(12) for failing to claim down to her declared riding weight. RACE 2: Quicksilver QTIS 3-Y-O Maiden Handicap - 950 metres The start was delayed when LEND ME A TENNER (App. H. English) was kicked by another runner behind the barriers. The gelding was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. The start was further delayed when MR SONADOR (App. Z. White) refused to be loaded into the barriers. Stewards ordered the late scratching of the gelding at 1.39 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on MR SONADOR be refunded and that thefollowing deductions apply: > 266 in the dollar for the win, for the winner WE'LL BEAT IT> 133 in the dollar for the place for the winner> 233 in the dollar for the place for 2nd, FINE 'N' DEVINE> 199 in the dollar for the place for 3rd, LEND ME A TENNER Trainer Mr R Chillemi will be advised that MR SONADOR must obtain one further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to again start in a race. CITY SECRETS - Slowly away. Raced greenly near the 500m, forcing another runner wider. WICKED MISTRESS - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Was forced wider by another runner near the 500m. FINE 'N' DEVINE - Jockey B. Thomson was fined $400 under A.R. 137A (5) for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In determining penalty stewards took into account Jockey Thomson's poor record in relation to the rule. RACE 3: Yellowglen BenchMark 60 Handicap - 950 metres TIBYAAN - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced ungenerously for a short distance thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. PINCER STRIKE > Was unable to muster pace in the early stages . Rider N. Callow stated that in his opinion the gelding wil be better suited over longer distances. NO BITING - Was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Stewards advised trainer S. Massingham that a warning will be placed on the mare's pre-race manners. Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred near the 600m reslting in CHAT TIME (Jockey J. P. Stanley) losing ground. After taking evidence from App. N. Nelson, rider of ROSE OF CLARE,, and Jockey Stanley and viewing the available video footage, stewards established that ROSE OF CLARE, which was racing to the inside of MINNIE STREET (App; A. Thomson), had shifted in and away from that mare at that stage of the race, and despite the efforts of App. Nelson had caused tightening to the running of CHAT TIME. As stewards were of the opinion that there were extenuating circumstances, they took no action other than to advise App. Nelson to exercise more care in similar circumstances.>RACE 4: The Reef Hotel Casino Governor's Trophy BenchMark 70 Handicap -1600 metres ROYAL SUPREME - Slowly away. Raced wide for the majority of the race. STANDFORD - Inclined to over-race in the early stages. Raced wide from the 700m. . PRETTY VACANT - Was incliined to over-race in the early stages. GOLD CUFFLINKS - Raced wide for the majority of the race. WE JUST LOVE IT - Raced wide from the 700m.. RACE 5: ALSCO Class 1 Handicap - 1250 metres DECODED - Held up for clear running approaching the 400m. IMPERIAL BELLE - Over-raced for a considerable distance from the 1000m. PRINCESS SIDEREUS - Raced wide in the early and middle stages. ROSE OF KALLONI - Lost ground after being restrained when awkwardly placed between runners near the 400m. WHO'S A STAR - Slowly away. VOLTAIC - Raced wide throughout. THE BEE'S KNEES - Raced wide throughout. When questioned about the seemingly improved performance of the mare, trainer Mr S. Cooper stated that whilst he had been disappointed with the marees recent performances he had changed itts diet and had also implemented a gear change. Mr Cooper also stated that the increased distance of todayys race had also suited the mare in his opinion. TICKETS TO RIDE - Raced wide throughout. SHE'S A RINGO - Slowly away. RACE 6: Cairns Key Real Estate Class 3 Handicap - 1400 metres BRAVE BOW - Inclined to race ungenerously for some distance passing the 1000m. CAPITANEAR - Slow into stride. AMULETO - Raced wide in the middle stages. FLYING ONE MORE - Slowly away after beginning awkwardly. OLSSON - Faltered at the crossing near the 800m and was retired from the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a serious injury to the near shoulder and the horse was euthanased on humane grounds. SPACE TIME - Checked to avoid the heels of another runner near the 800m. KAYLEE - Slowly away after beginning awkwardly. Was inconvenienced when restrained to avoid heels near the 800m.. Was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages, placing rider D. Evans at a disadvantage. SHOT OF COURAGE - Had to be steadied when shifting out abruptly across heels near the 400m. RYLEE'S SAGA >- Raced wide for the majority of the race. OUR KAPOW - Raced wide throughout. RACE 7: Carlton Mid Open Handicap - 950 metres ACCIDENTAL - Slowly into stride.. SPORTING PAGE - Slowly away. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, rider J. Stanley stated that as blinkers had been added to the horse's gear again, he was reluctant to pressure the gelding in the early stages as it has a tendency to over-race, and as a result settled further back than anticipated. PINYARDA - Slowly away after beginning awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event. PLATINUM TYCOON - Raced wide rounding the home turn. On returning to scale Jockey R. Thompson reported that the gelding was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn and then laid in under pressuree in the home straight. LOVER OF LIFE - Slowly into stride. Raced wide without cover in the early stages. ANZUS - Near the 500m when hanging in despite the efforts of rider Z White, tightened the running of CONCLUDER (Jockey D. Evans), which was checked and lost ground. Whilst Stewards noted the racing manners of the gelding had attributted to this incident no further action was taken.
