Townsville 2/02/2018 Race 6 Benchmark 70 H’Cap 1300M
 
After inquiring into the poor performance of POWER SUPPLY which competed in the above mentioned race meeting, trainer Mr G Hughes subsequently advised Stewards the gelding has now been sent for spell.
 

Stewards inquired into a complaint received against apprentice A Thomson in that she sent an abusive text on Friday 23/01/2018. Ms Thomson in the presence of her master Mr F. Wieland, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 175(qq) in that she did send such a text
from her mobile phone to the mobile phone of another person, the content of which could have a detrimental effect on racing and is not befitting of the conduct of a licensee. Ms Thomson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 3 calendar months of which 2 months will be fully suspended under the provisions of AR196(4) for a period of 12 months to commence midnight 17 February 2018 and to expire midnight 17 March 2018. Ms Thomson was advised of her rights of review.       
 
Race 1: REEF AND RAINFOREST CONECTIONS CAPE TRIBULATION CLASS 5 H’CAP – 950M
 
The start of this race was delayed due the ambulance becoming bogged on the sand track.
 
COHESION – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground. Rider B. Thomson was cautioned over her use of the whip prior to 100m.  
 
Race 2: REEF AND RAINFOREST CONNECTIONS DAINTREE WALKABOUT RB 0 - 60 H’CAP – 950M
 
BIG TOMEE – Delayed the start when its tongue tie became loose having to be replaced.
 
CENTREHALF FORWARD – Slow to begin. Crowded for room near the 150m and had to be restrained and alter course.
 
MUSTANG JACK – Began awkwardly. Laid in near the 500m tightening another runner.
 
MY GIRLS A DRAGON – Tightened for room near the 500m by another runner which laid in. Laid in near the 150m crowding another runner. Rider A. Thomson was severely reprimanded and advised to make a greater effort to prevent her mount from shifting in.  

RIKKI DYNAMO – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
MODEL TO EXCEED – Raced wide for the majority of the race.    
 
Race 3: SALTWATER GALLERY PORT DOUGLAS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1250M
 
EXIT LOUNGE – Declared a late scratching at 11.57am by order of Stewards acting on veterinary advice.
 
JUEUN IN NEW YORK – After being slow to begin was tightened for room between runners and lost ground.
 
AHERN – Began awkwardly and shifted out tightening a runner to its outside.
 
ELECTRIC SHOCK – Began awkwardly and shifted in tightening a runner to its inside. Saddle shifted back leaving the 800m placing rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.
 
KENSINGTON STAR – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
COUSIN MUSCLES – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
RAVENHEART – Trainer L. McCormack was advised a warning would be placed on the mare for being uncompetitive and further that it nomination would be refused at TAB meetings until form improves by way of country meetings.  
 
Race 4: CROCS PORT DOUGLAS AFL FOOTBALL CLUB CLASS 3 PLATE – 1500M
 
SYDNEY HARBOUR – Slow into stride. Shifted wider rounding the home turn to obtain clear running.
 
MEDIEVAL – Rider W. D’Avila reported that his opinion the gelding may have got its tongue over the bit during the race. Connections advised they will add a tongue tie prior to its next start.   
 
DONAVIA – Began awkwardly.
 
NEAR THE CITY – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a heavy 9.
 
Race 5: DOWN UNDER TOURS QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 950M
 
OUR ATOM – Permission was granted for the gelding to race without its advertised gear of blinkers after it was established the horse did not wear blinkers when winning at its previous start.
 
WICKED MISTRESS – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start and was slow to begin after beginning awkwardly.

GREY MISSILE – Rider S. Wilson was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he directed his mount out around the heels of ROSE CLIP (W. D’Avila) leaving the 400m and shifted wider resulting in REDWISKA (D. Simmons) having to take evasive action and being forced very wide on the track. S. Wilsons licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence at midnight 17/02/2018 up to and including Tuesday 27/02/2018.
 
REDWISKA – Had  to take evasive action and was forced very wide on the track leaving the 400m.     
 
Race 6: MARANO’S FUEL BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1250M
 
STUDMAN – Declared a late scratching at 8.18am by order of Stewards acting on veterinary advice.
 
FLINCH – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Rider D. Simmons was reprimanded for his use of the whip prior to the 100m.  
 
THE BEES KNEES – When questioned rider B. Thomson advised Stewards that in her opinion the mare never travelled comfortably throughout the race, failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing. Trainer S. Cooper was at loss to explain the performance other than the mare may have come into season and undertook to advise Stewards should anything further come to his attention in the near future that may have had a bearing on its performance.
