Race 1: Carlton Mid Benchmark 65 H’cap – 950m
 
SNOWY MOET – Shifted outwards after beginning awkwardly, bumping with another runner.  Shifted in marginally near the 800m, tightening another runner.  At a subsequent inquiry, jockey S. Kaya was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
OUR ATOM – Bumped by another runner soon after the start. Raced 3 wide for the majority of the race.
 
IMPERIAL ATTITUDE – Inclined to race ungenerously for a short distance passing the 900m. Made the crossing awkwardly at the 800m.
 
A SHOT OF COURAGE – Made the 800m crossing awkwardly, losing ground at that point.  When questioned into the seemingly disappointing run of the gelding, jockey B. Thomson was at a loss to explain the performance, stating that his mount had failed to respond to her efforts at any stage of the race.  A subsequent veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Potiris was advised to contact stewards if any abnormality becomes apparent with the horse in the coming days.
 
GREAT PRETENDER –   Made the crossing awkwardly at the 800m. Hung out becoming awkward on the heels of SNOWY MOET at the home turn.
 
 
 
Race 2 – Suprimo Cairns Maiden Plate – 950m
 
ELEGIR – Slowly away after beginning awkwardly.  Made the 800m crossing awkwardly. Had to be shifted wider on the track to avoid heels when overracing near the 550m. Raced wide for the remainder of the race.
 
ESTRELLA FELLA – Slowly away. Became awkward rounding the home turn, and when racing in restricted room near the 500m was inconvenienced and contacted the running rail and became unbalanced.  When questioned, jockey W. D’Avila advised stewards that, in his opinion, the horse was not suited by today’s tight circuit over 950m and would be better suited on a larger track over a longer distance.
 
SHOW US SUMHEART – Began awkwardly. Shifted in marginally near the 500m, inconveniencing another runner. Jockey K. Rockett, rider of SHOW US SUMHEART, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in, tightening the running of ESTRELLA FELLA after the finish line. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg.  Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.
 
PLATINUM PULSE – Bumped with another runner near the 750m.  Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
BUDRICKS – Bumped with another runner near the 750m. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
REVERBERATING – The saddle slipped back approaching the home turn, placing jockey B. Thomson at a disadvantage.

 
 
Race 3 – Farewell To Simon’s Freedom QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 950m
 
ELITE JET – Began very awkwardly and shifted out, bumping heavily with another runner. Inclined to overrace in the middle stages.
 
ROTHSTOCK’N’BELLA – Shifted in on jumping away. Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure near the 150m, inconveniencing another runner despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey K. Rockett was found guilty of careless riding under the provisions AR.137(a) in that he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent ROTHSTOCK’N’BELLA from shifting in, shortly after passing the winning post which resulted in WICKED MISTRESS (S.Wiseman) having to be severely checked. Jockey K.Rockett license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days, to commence midnight Saturday March 17 2018, up to and including midnight Tuesday March 27 2018. Jockey K.Rockett was advised of his right to internal review.
 
EDGED IN LACE – Bumped heavily by another runner on jumping away. Raced wide for some distance passing the 600m.
 
WICKED MISTRESS – Lost ground when tightened for room on jumping away.
 
CITY SECRETS -   Inclined to hang out passing the 500m, shifting wider on the track. Inconvenienced near the 150m by another runner, which shifted in under pressure.
 
ALPHORN – A post race veterinary examination of the gelding found to be lame in the off-side shoulder. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its
next race start.
 
 
Race 4 – Dawsons Engineering Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1250m
 
METAZOA – Slowly into stride.
 
SUPAMETEOR – Raced wide for the majority of the race.  Jockey D. Simmons stated that the gelding, in his opinion, was disappointing and failed to respond to his urgings when placed under pressure. Trainer F. Wieland advised that recent extreme weather conditions had hampered the horse’s training regime.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
 
Race 5 – Cairns Hardware Maiden H’cap – 1250m
 
DAESY DANORO – Slow to begin. Raced wide rounding the home turn.  
 
 
Race 6 ­ –  Century Cranes Open H’cap – 1400m
 
JORDAN – Slow into stride.
 
BRADMAN – Slow into stride.
 
BELORUM – Slow into stride.
 
STABLE SURPRISE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
MEDIEVAL – Raced ungenerously for a short distance passing the 1000m. Restrained near the 500m when tightened for room.
 
GUNDY STAR - Jockey F. Edwards, rider of GUNDY STAR,  was severely reprimanded under AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shifted in near the 500m when not sufficiently clear of MEDIEVAL (W. D’Davila), which had to be restrained.
 
 
 
Race  7 –  Clarke Trenching Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1500m
 
CAPITANEAR – Slow to begin.
 
LIL’RED MONKEY – Shifted out on jumping and bumped another runner.
 
BUSH VERSION – Tightened between runners on jumping away.  Had to be restrained when racing in restricted room approaching the finish line.
 
SHE’S A RINGO – Bumped by another runner soon after the start. Inclined to overrace in the early stages.  Raced wide for the majority of the race. When questioned by stewards, jockey D. Simmons reported that the mare had performed disappointingly and failed to respond to his riding throughout. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer T. Rowe advised stewards that the mare would now go for a short break from racing.
 
RAMSDEN STREET – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
 
Race 8 –  Plaster Metal Cladding Ratings Band 0-55 H’cap – 950m
 
The start of this race was delayed due to NEW CALEDONIA having to be re-saddle when arriving at the barriers.
 
DROPYOURBUNDALL – As Jockey D. Edmonds was to be overweight, he was replaced by  B. Thomson.  Jockey D. Edmonds was fined $100 under AR.120(b)
 
SHORT TERM – Slowly to begin.
 
NEW CALEDONIA – Shifted its off hind plate in the race day tie-up stalls, however was unable to be replated and as such both hind plates were removed and the mare raced barefoot behind. Hung in down the running, becoming awkward on the heels of another running, having to be checked. Trainer Mr J. Duchene was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.
 
AESOP – Jumped outwards at the start, hampering other runners.
 
MUSTANG JACK – Began awkwardly.  Hampered by another runner soon after jumping. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
