Lane Stewards – P. Gillard, L. Hicks Clerk of Scales – C. GordonJudge – R. BallardVeterinarian – Dr E. MaloneySwab Attendants – P. ChartersStarter – P. Warren GENERAL Due to a malfunction in the irrigation equipment on Wednesday 25 April 2018, a section of the track between the 850m and the 750m became saturated. After being assessed by the stewards, that section of track was deemed a SOFT 7. SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS: From Townsville 19.4.18: Apprentice A. Thomson was found guilty of a charge under the provisions of AR. 175(p) in that she disobeyed the direction from race day steward Mr P. Warren to remain on course. Apprentice Thomson was fined $300. CAIRNS GREYHOUND RACING CLUB – 6-04-2018Panel: P. Gillard, P. Lane Stewards today inquired into a complaint raised by licensed Greyhound trainer Ms E. Bryant against licensed Greyhound trainer Mr G. Tsakissiris. After hearing evidence from both parties and Steward Mr M. Braunberger, both Ms E. Bryant and Mr G. Tsakissiris pleaded guilty to a charge under GR86(o) in that they misconducted themselves and exchanged abusive language with each other on Friday 6 April 2018 at the Cairns Greyhound Race Club at the completion of that meeting. Both Ms Bryant and Mr G. Tsakissiris were fined the sum of $800.00. Acting under the provisions of GR 95(3), stewards ordered that $500.00 of the fine be suspended for a period of 12 months provided that they do not breach a similar rule. Race 1: ELEMENTS AIR & REFRIGERATION MAIDEN H’CAP – 1250M LATTIMER – Crowded on jumping. Bumped by another runner near the 800m. AGILITY – As the horse was resuming from a prolonged absence from racing, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. MAROON CREEK – Crowded on jumping. Shifted in near the 550m, making contact with the inside running rail and became momentarily unbalanced. FAST SUN –Jockey W D’Avila advised that his instructions were to be positive and attempt to gain a position behind the leaders, however the mare had commenced to overrace and as a result he had be unable to settle the mare and was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event. FRED’S GIFT – Began awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing other runners. NICK’S NIGHT OUT – Shifted out near the 800m, bumping another runner. SIDTHEKID – Raced wide from the 800m. When questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance, trainer M. Whitehouse advised that he had changed the gelding’s training regime slightly in the past week and had applied earmuffs to the gelding upon entering the racecourse today and they remained on until the horse reached the barriers. He said that as a result the horse was quiet and relaxed. He noted that the horse was fractious in the barriers at its previous start and had missed the start by a considerable distance. Mr Whitehouse added that he has always had a good opinion of the gelding and that his instructions today were to jump the horse out, settle it and let it work home. He further added that the stable did not support the gelding in today’s race. Race 2: CAIRNS MULCH MM FNQ UP & COMING STAYERS BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1600M WE JUST LOVE IT – Slowly away.
