QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT CAIRNS, SATURDAY, 4 AUGUST 2018 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD (4) GOOD (3) AFTER RACE 3RAIL – TRUE PENETROMETER – 5.13 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P. GillardStewards – P. LaneClerk of Scales – C. GordonJudge – R. BallardVeterinarian – Dr E. Maloney, Dr R. Harvey Bookmakers Supervisor – L. MilesSwab attendants – P. ChartersStarter – P. Warren Supplementary Report: QRIC Stewards today inquired into the analyst's finding of testosterone at a concentration in excess of the threshold provided for a gelding under Australian Rule of Racing 78C(g)(i), in the urine sample taken from WE JUST LOVE IT subsequent to that gelding winning the CAIRNS MULCH MM FNQ UP & COMING STAYERS BenchMark 65 Handicap 1600m at Cairns on 26 April 2018. Stewards considered evidence from trainer Janell Ryan. A written report was also tabled from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory Science Manager, Dr Adam Cawley, who gave an opinion that an analysis of the steroid profile in the urine sample of the gelding in question supported an assertion that the elevated concentration of testosterone was the result of endogenous production, due to unusual adrenal gland activity. The Stewards found that upon consideration of the scientific and analytical evidence available to them, they were satisfied that the detected concentration of testosterone in the sample was of endogenous origin or as a result of endogenous activity.Accordingly, the Stewards exercised a discretion provided under AR177C and AR178G, to rule that the provisions of AR177 and AR178 do not apply, irrespective of the samples being found to contain testosterone at a concentration above 20 micrograms per litre. As a result there was no action taken against Ms. Ryan. Race 1: Piccolo Cucina QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 950m RESADOWSKA – Shifted out abruptly at the start, inconveniencing runners to its outside.
