Runners Tecza, Ekspress King and Voltaic, which competed at yesterday’s race meeting, were assessed by the veterinary surgeon prior to their respective races and were cleared to start.
 
Due to a southern event being abandoned today, Races 1 and 2 were rescheduled to start at 12.54 pm and 1.29 pm respectively.
Race 1: Tattersalls QRIS 3yo H’cap – 1250m
 
GOLDIE GIRL – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start and then began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping another runner. When questioned into the disappointing performance, rider C. Jokic stated that the mare failed to respond to her riding when placed under pressure leaving the 400m and, in her opinion may have come to the end of its preparation.  Trainer M. Geaney advised stewards that he was disappointed with the mare’s performance today, however was of the opinion that it is better suited when able to lead in its races, adding that he would monitor its progress from today and advise stewards of anything that comes to his attention which may have had a bearing on today’s performance. A post race veterinary examination  revealed abrasions to the off fore cannon.  
 
POETIC ATTACKS – Was bumped on jumping by another runner and then shortly after made heavy contact with another runner, which shifted in. Raced wide in the middle stages.
 
BRAVE JEWEL – Bumped heavily with another runner on jumping away. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
HOT TOP – Made the 1000m turn awkwardly and momentarily shifted wider on the track. Laid out rounding the home turn, shifting wider and continued to lay out in the home straight under pressure.
 
SHUNTER – Raced ungenerously near the 1000m and put in an awkward stride, resulting in the horse blundering.
 
Race 2: Century Cranes Sir Sydney Williams OBE Class 6 Plate – 950m
 
MARSEILLE ROULETTE – Began very awkwardly, throwing its head in the air and shifted in soon after the start, bumping another runner.
 
HOT SHOT HARRY – Was tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground. Shifted out near the 900m, forcing another runner wider. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
OUR ATOM – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after jumping away becoming unbalanced, and was again bumped near the 900m and became unbalanced. Raced wide. When questioned into the disappointing performance, rider R. Thomson advised stewards whilst disappointed in the performance, the gelding was stepping up in grade and was also of the opinion the horse is better suited when able to dictate the race when leading. Connections advised stewards they were of the opinion that the horse is coming to the end of its preparation and that it was their intention now for the horse to be sent for a spell.
 
OUR RECIPE – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced.
 
RYLEE’S SAGA – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
THE FLASH ONE – Trainer T. Butts advised stewards following the race that, in his opinion, the gelding failed to back up from its previous run and he would now monitor the horse going forward and freshen it up.
 
 
Race 3: Citizens Of The Great Barrier Reef Amateurs Bracelet Class 3 Plate – 1250m
 
WILL HE TORQUE – Slow to begin.
 
SHOT OF COURAGE – Began awkwardly and shifted out shortly after the start, tightening runners to its outside.
 
TOFF ROCKS – Tightened for room shortly after the start and shifted out, bumping another runner.  Rider S. Wilson advised stewards on return to scale the horse raced very disappointingly and, in his opinion, may have come to the end of its preparation.  Trainer A. Paterson advised stewards it was now his intention that the gelding be sent for a spell.
 
REGAL EMBRACE – Bumped by another runner, which shifted out shortly after the start.
 
THE GREATEST – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
FEMALE OFFICER – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
CAPTAIN THE WORLD – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
ZERO SECRETS – Raced wide for the majority of the race.  
 
 
Race 4: Cairns Post Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1250m
 
GLOBAL GURU – Slow to begin.
 
SNOWY MOET – Began awkwardly. Had a tendency to lay in throughout the race. Shifted in, crowding runners to its inside near the 1000m before being corrected. Rider J. Stanley was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
 
FLYING ONE MORE – Restrained when crowded for room near the 1000m.
 
OAKFIELD AVENGER – Steadied from heels near the 1000m.
 
Race 5: Kenfrost Homes Open H’cap – 1400m
 
Correct weight was delayed when jockey S. Wilson, rider of the 3rd placegetter, Pinyarda, lodged an objection against Confronting (L. Tilley) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After hearing all the evidence and viewing the available race footage, stewards were of the opinion that Confronting shifted out over the concluding stages and also that there was a slight shift inwards from Peacock, which also had a bearing on the incident and for this reason the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings.
 
PINYARDA – Shifted out at the start, crowding runners to its outside.
 
SEPTIMO – Shifted in at the start, crowding runners to its inside.
 
SAN AMARO – Tightened for room on jumping away. Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn when tightened for a short distance.
 
DEVINE SERVICE – Tightened for room on jumping away.
 
 
 
 
Race 6: UBET Pat Williams Memorial Class 1 H’cap – 1500m
 
EXSPRESS KING – Declared a late scratching at 3.54 pm on veterinary advice after being found to be lame in the off foreleg. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:
 
1 cent in the dollar on the face value of win bets
2 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the win
2 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
2 cents in the dollar on the face value 3rd place bets
 
Trainer G. Porter advised stewards that the horse would now be retired from racing. He was nevertheless advised that should circumstances change, he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for the horse.
 
METAZOA – Slow to begin.
 
SAID WRITTEN – Slow to begin.
 
HOTEL HILLTOP – Bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. Raced in restricted room near the 300m for a short distance and was restrained.
 
FOX STREET – When being caught wide in the early stages, rider J. Stanley elected to restrain his mount to find a position closer to the running rail. The gelding then had a tendency to hang out for the majority of the race.
 
MY BOY ALEX – Overraced in the middle stages. Checked from heels near the 700m.
 
POLAR BLAST – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
VOLTAIC – Raced in restricted room near the 300m and was steadied.
 
PRESIDENTIAL JOY – Commenced to lose ground near the 300m and shifted in, placing runners to its inside in restricted room. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed a near-side nasal discharge. Trainer A. Paterson advised that the horse would now be sent for an immediate spell.
 
FLASH HERO –  Rider S. Wilson advised stewards that his mount may have choked down.  Trainer S. Cooper advised stewards he would experiment with further gear changes for the horse and consider racing the horse in a lesser grade. Mr Cooper was nevertheless advised that a warning would be place on the horse’s competitiveness. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Race 7: Carlton Mid Cairns Amateur Cup Open H’cap – 2100m
 
IT AND A BIT – The start was delayed significantly when the gelding bucked during the preliminary, dislodging rider A. Spinks. Jockey Spinks was examined by the ambulance officers and cleared to fulfil his engagement. IT AND A BIT was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers after cantering a short distance and was cleared to start. After returning to scale, apprentice Spinks complained of soreness to his left arm and was subsequently transported to Cairns Hospital for further observation.
 
WE JUST LOVE IT – Slow to begin.
 
HOT SAGA – Slow to begin.
 
CAILLEBOTTE – Made the 1000m turn awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
REIBY THE RED – Made the 1000m turn awkwardly.
 
RANKED – Raced wide in the early stages.  Steadied near the 400m to avoid another runner, which shifted in slightly.
 
LADY SKILLS – Was placed in restricted room rounding the home turn and was steadied.
 
CRIMSON HALO – Shifted out rounding the home turn despite the efforts of its rider, crowding runners to its outside.
 
BARWON – Shifted in under riding, inconveniencing another runner near the 400m. Jockey K. Stone was reprimanded and advised to make greater effort to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances.
 
Race 8:  Patrons Cup (Sponsored By Keith Delacy) Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1900m
 
CASHED UP BULLY – Shifted out, making contact with another runner at the start.
 
JIMMY HOFFA – Bumped by another runner on jumping away. Shifted out near the 200m, hampering another runner. Rider M. Kai pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that leaving the 100m he permitted his mount to shift out under hard riding when insufficiently clear of COLLYWOBBLE (P. Cullen), causing that runner to be checked and shift wider. M. Kai’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 8 September and to expire at midnight, 16 September 2018.  Jockey M. Kai was advised of his review rights.
 
COUTAINVILLE – Rider F. Edwards was fined the sum of $200 in that he used his whip excessively prior to the 100m.
