Race 1: TEA LILY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1250 metres

BOTOX LADY- Began awkwardly and shifted in on jumping. Jockey S Kaya pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he used his whip in an excessive manner (22 times) throughout the race. Jockey Kaya’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence on Sunday September 20, 2020 up to and including Tuesday September 29, 2020. In determining penalty Stewards took into account the extent of the breach and overall circumstances surrounding Jockey Kaya’s whip use in running. Jockey Kaya was advised of his right to an internal review.

NORTHERN GREAT- Bumped with another running passing the 1200m. Shifted wider rounding the home turn forcing another runner wider.

CRACKER ESSGEE- Bumped with another runner passing the 1200m. Forced wider by another runner which shifted out rounding the home turn. Shifted out soon after straightening momentarily hampering another runner. Jockey P Romeo was severely reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained a laceration to the near hind fetlock consistent with having been galloped on in running. Trainer M McLellan was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to next race start.

NICHOLAS ADAM- Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Passing the 200m, was obliged to steady momentarily, when a runner to the inside shifted out. Raced wide without cover for the majority.

Race 2: AJ HACKETT CAIRNS Class 6 Handicap 1250 metres

HE’S BLESSED- Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping with another runner on jumping. Obliged to restrain off the heels of another runner which was inclined to shift out under pressure approaching the 100m. On returning to scale Jockey N Day advised that the gelding which lost its near fore plate in running had failed to let down when pressured for an effort in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

HOT SHOT HARRY- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

SPARKLY STAR- After being slow away was buffeted between runners for a short distance. Over-raced in the early stages.

TOFF ROCKS- Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Jockey G Watson advised the gelding had hung in during the middle stages and in the home straight and was therefore unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages. Trainer A Patterson was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

V J DAY- Inclined to shift out under pressure down the running hampering another runner passing the 100m. Jockey L Tilley was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Race 3: BLACK IVY BOUTIQUE OPEN Handicap 1600 metres

ROCK SPUR- Slow to begin.

SALESMAN- Made the 1400m crossing awkwardly. Over-raced for a short distance afterward before surrendering the lead.

BEST HOFFA- Raced wide throughout. Performed below market expectations. Jockey L Tilley advised that the gelding had struggled under today’s heavy impost and felt flat throughout the event. Trainer A Molino advised that the gelding would be spelled immediately following what has been an extended racing campaign. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

BUXTON- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.

STRYKE ROCK- Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted on the gelding. Trainer R Chillemi advised that he gave no specific instructions other than to ride the horse where it was comfortable in running. Jockey D’Avila advised that after beginning well and with no clear pace in the race he elected to let his mount stride forward and set its own pace. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: CHRISTMAS PARTY RACE DAY ON SALE OPEN Handicap 950 metres

BEAU JET- Slow into stride. Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide the majority. Jockey S Sheargold advised that, in his opinion, the gelding would be more comfortable on a more spacious circuit.

POLAR BLAST- Resuming after an injury enforced 8 months layoff. Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. App R Shred advised that her instructions were to attempt to position the gelding behind the pace in order to have something in reserve over the concluding stages. MIZ MACEY- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Inconvenienced by another runner which hung in over the concluding stages.

PURRFECTIONIST- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Stewards inquired into the improved performance. Trainer M Dale advised that, in his opinion, the gelding which was having its 7th race start today, and still displayed signs of immaturity, had been suited by the short backup following its previous run at Mareeba on September 5, 2020. Mr Dale also advised that the gelding had pleased him in its work throughout the week and that the stable had supported the gelding modestly in today’s race. Stewards noted the explanation.

Stewards inquired into the reason/s KUMARI (N Yadi) was checked passing the 950m. After hearing evidence from the riders involved and viewing the patrol footage it was ascertained that when negotiating the 950m turn LORD BYRON (App. M Potgieter) hung out, despite the efforts of its rider. Simultaneously, PURRFECTIONIST (L Tilley) shifted in marginally resulting in KUMARI being tightened for room and being severely checked. As Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any individual rider was responsible and the predominant cause of the incident had been the racing manners of LORD BYRON, no further action was taken, though all riders were advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

Race 6: TOKUNAI HAIR BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 metres

PURE REBEL- Raced wide for the majority. Stewards inquired into the improved performance of the gelding.
