Commenced to over-race approaching the 600m and raced wide rounding the home turn. Jockey Chris Whiteley advised his instructions were to attempt to get the gelding to settle in a position off the pace, adding the gelding didn’t finish off as he would have expected. Jockey Whiteley also noted the space between today’s event and the geldings previous start as a contributing factor to its tendency to over-race.  Trainer Stephen Massingham confirmed the instructions and advised of an intention to experiment with gear changes prior to the gelding’s next race start. Stewards noted the gelding’s southern form and history of racing ungenerously as well as its racing manners in today’s event and accepted the explanations.
