GENERAL
 
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Trainer A Bailey for the late notification of riders on UPTOWN TOFF and FEMALE OFFICER.
 
 
After the running of Race 1 the Starting Gates malfunctioned whilst in transit to the 950m. As such, to allow for the required maintenance to be performed, the start times for the remaining races were amended as follows:
 
Race 2- 2:40pm
Race 3- 3:15pm
Race 4- 3:50pm
Race 5- 4:25pm
Race 6- 5:00pm
Race 7- 5:35pm
Race 8- 6:00pm
 
 
 
Race 1: TAB CREATE YOUR SPRING CALENDAR Maiden Plate 1250 metres
 
AMELIA’S RAINBOW- Shifted in and made contact with the inside running rail passing the 300m and was inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.
 
THE BLOCK- Began awkwardly. After obtaining a rearward position was unable to maintain the pace to maintain contact with the field approaching the 900m and consequently tailed the field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
CRAIGLEA RAFFERTY- Began awkwardly. Took the 950m turn awkwardly and shifted out marginally.
 
HOTBOSSAN(GB)- Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner. Shifted in and away from another runner which was laying in over the concluding stages.
 
SHE’S A SINNER- Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner. Became awkwardly placed on the heels of another runner which was racing awkwardly rounding the 950m turn.
 
GO JABBA- Fractious in the barriers. Raced wide throughout. Trainer P Rowe advised it would now be his intention to have the gelding race with a tongue tie in future starts.
 
MCKENZIE WILL DO- Obliged to restrain after improving onto the heels of another runner passing the 500m. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. Raced wide throughout.
 
BRANDS HATCH- Raced wide in the early stages.
 
 
 
 
Race 2: COUNTRY STAMPEDE QUALIFIER OPEN QUALITY Handicap 950 metres
 
SHROUDED- As App E Cass was unable to make the allocated weight App K Swaffer was substituted as rider of the gelding. App Cass was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR190(3) as a result. Eased off the heels of another runner passing the 500m.
 
DESERT COWBOY- Slow to begin. Lost its near-fore plate passing the 700m. Became awkwardly placed and was obliged to steady off heels passing the 600m. Shifted wider on entering the home straight and bumped with another runner.
 
BERAHT- Obliged to momentarily ease passing the 600m when crossed by another runner.
 
SHROUDED- Momentarily eased off the heels of another runner passing the 600m.
 
HIDDEN IN HEAVEN- Crossed another runner to obtain a position along the inside running rail passing the 600m. Jockey G Kliese was reminded to ensure he is fully clear to do so in similar circumstances.
 
LITTLE STRYKER- Bumped with another runner which shifted out on entering the home straight.
 
EXCEEDING ASSASIN- A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils in running. As this was the second such occurrence Trainer B Thomson was advised that, under the provisions of AR79, the gelding would now be ineligible to race again in Australia.
 
 
 
 
Race 3: ASTUTE FINANCIAL Class 3 Plate 950 metres
 
YULONG WAY- As the gelding was returning after a prolonged absence from racing, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Delayed the start before being declared a late scratching at 3:22pm after refusing to load into the barriers. All monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 3:22pm were as follows:
 
14 cents in the dollar for the win
12 cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
11 cents in the dollar for 2nd place
17 cents in the dollar for 3rd place
 
Trainer R Baker was advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
 
 
THE FRONTIER- As the gelding had raced on the 10th of November 2020, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Began awkwardly. Bumped with another runner on jumping and again shortly after. Inclined to shift ground under pressure down the running and tired noticeably over the concluding stages.
 
TABATHA MISS- Significantly delayed the start after proving difficult to load. Trainers Representative P McGuire was advised the mare would be required to obtain two further consecutive consecutive barrier certificates prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Bumped with another runner on jumping and again shortly after.
 
WESTROCK- Reluctant to proceed to the barriers and delayed the start after proving difficult to load. Trainer A Ryan was advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
SHE BEATS THE BEST- Stood flat footed and was unable to muster the speed required to maintain contact with the field throughout before finishing off fairly. Stewards considered the duration of time the mare spent in the barriers due to other runners proving difficult to load and no further action was taken. Jockey B Thomson was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 7 occasions, 2 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
 
 
 
 
Race 4: CORAL COAST CATERING QTIS Three-Year-Old Class 2 Handicap 1250 metres
 
WATERWAY- As the gelding had raced on the 10th November 2020, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
 
HALF EVIL- Began awkwardly. Raced wide the majority.
 
SERIOUSNESS- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Jockey S Kaya was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides, one occasion, prior to the 100m.
 
EXPOSED SECRET- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Obliged to steady momentarily when a runner to its outside shifted in passing the 200m.
 
GOODBYE EARL- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Became awkwardly placed on the heels of another runner soon after jumping.
 
BETTER THAN SILVER- Bumped with another runner on jumping.
 
TARGET PRACTICE- Took the 950m turn awkwardly and bumped with SOUL SEARCHER (B Thomson). Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running, shifting in passing the 200m momentarily hampering another runner. Jockey N Yadi was advised to exerciser greater care in similar circumstances. Raced wide throughout.
 
SOUL SEARCHER- Bumped by another runner rounding the 950m turn. Was inclined to lay out throughout. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
 
 
 
Race 5: NORWELD ENGINEERING Class 6 Plate 1250 metres
 
The start of the race was delayed when ROTHMAN required re-saddling upon arriving at the barriers.
 
 
BOLD KINGSTON- Proved difficult to load. Trainer S Potiris was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding as a result.
 
NO EFFORT NEEDED- Began awkwardly and shifted out on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
ROTHMAN- Raced awkwardly when rounding the 950m turn. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.
 
DREAM I CAN- Obliged to restrain when crossed by another runner passing the 1000m. App E Cass was found guilty pursuant to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) the particulars being that passing the 150m she did permit her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of AKILEOS (S Sheargold) causing that runner to be checked and shift in impeding the running of BOLD KINGSTON (App A Thompson) which was obliged to restrain as a result. App Cass’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence the 5th of November 2020 up to and including the 4th of December 2020. In determining penalty Stewards took into consideration the degree of interference which was considered to be in the midrange, the lack of sufficient effort made to straighten her mount after it commenced to shift in, as well as App Cass’s recent good record in relation to the rule. App Cass was advised of her right to an internal review.
 
AKILEOS- Shifted in passing the 1000m inconveniencing DREAM I CAN (App E Cass). Jockey S Sheargold was severely reprimanded as a result of this incident.
 
DEVILS LAIR- Performed below market expectations. Jockey C Whiteley advised that after trailing the field throughout failed to let down in the home straight. Jockey Whiteley added that, in his opinion, the distance of todays event was well short of his mounts ideal trip. Jockey Whiteley also sighted a history of treatment for respiratory issues. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey S Sheargold, rider of 5th place getter AKILEOS, to view the footage of the concluding stages to ascertain whether there was grounds for an objection against 3rd place getter DREAM I CAN. After viewing the official patrol footage Jockey Sheargold elected not to proceed with any objection and correct weight was declared on the judges semaphored numbers.
 
 
 
 
 
Race 6: COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER/CAIRNS CITY CUP OPEN Handicap 1400 metres
 
PANIAGUA- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.
 
ZAMEX- Commenced to over-race when crossed by another runner approaching the 1000m, before shifting wider rounding the 950 turn. Shifted in marginally passing the 200m.
 
MAQUEREAU- Inclined to raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
ROCK SPUR- Obliged to momentarily ease and shift out around the heels of another runner which shifted in marginally passing the 200m.
 
SALESMAN- Obliged to steady over the concluding stages when a runner to its inside shifted out. Raced wide throughout.
 
TAMBOS HEART- Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running, shifted out over the concluding stages inconveniencing another runner. Jockey N Day was severely reprimanded as a result of this incident.
 
PURE REBEL- Raced wide the majority.
 
 
 
 
 
Race 7: BILLY COOK MEMORIAL Class 1 Handicap 1500 metres
 
CATCHA SPARK- Shifted out on jumping tightening another runner. Raced keenly in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination found the gelding had sustained a minor laceration to the near-side hind in running.
 
BON RUBY- Buffeted between runners on jumping.
 
REBEL LAKE- Shifted in on jumping tightening another runner. Obliged to ease momentarily passing the 500m when crowded for room. Shifted out and away from another runner passing the 200m. Jockey A Sewell advised he had difficulty obtaining clear running for a majority of the home straight.
 
HERSHISER- Shifted out on jumping tightening another runner.
 
PHILANTHROPIST- As Jockey R Wiggins was unable to make the allocated weight Jockey C Jokic was substituted as the rider of the gelding. Jockey Wiggins was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR190(3). Buffeted between runners on jumping.
 
HIGHLAND SKIPPER- Bumped with another runner on jumping and shifted in tightening a further runner.
 
UPTOWN TOFF- Bumped with another runner on jumping.
 
WHITTERICK- Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running.
 
MIKEYS TURF- Commenced to race awkwardly when racing in restricted room passing the 1000m.
 
 
 
 
Race 8: JACK WILSON MEMORIAL Class 4 Handicap 1400 metres
 
FEMALE OFFICER- Slow to begin.
 
HELMAZ- Shifted out on jumping tightening another runner.
 
SHE’S NIC’N OFF- Tightened between runners on jumping.
 
LASSITER’S LOAD- Began awkwardly and shifted in tightening another runner.
 
KICK ONS- Began awkwardly.
 
MY GIRL POPPY- Raced wide throughout.
 
Stewards inquired into a protracted incident which took place from the home turn until the 100m. After viewing the patrol footage and taking evidence from the riders involved it was determined that on entering the home straight FEMALE OFFICER (App K Swaffer) was attempting to improve into a marginal run, at which time OWN SWEET WAY (Jockey W D’Avila) commenced to shift out and continued to lay out under pressure. Simultaneously, CASH RAIDER (Jockey C Whiteley), which was endeavouing to improve to the direct outside of FEMALE OFFICER, was obliged to shift in when SHE’S NIC’N OFF (Jockey S Wilson) commenced to lay in and continued to do so under pressure. This placed CASH RAIDER and FEMALE OFFICER in restricted room and resulted in FEMALE OFFICER and OWN SWEET WAY bumping heavily passing the 200m causing both runners to become unbalanced. Then, approaching the 100m, POETIC ATTACKS (App A Thompson) shifted out under pressure impeding the running of OWN SWEET WAY causing that runner restrain and shift out tightening FEMALE OFFICER and CASH RAIDER which was awkwardly placed on the heels of SHE’S NIC’N OFF, which was still laying in under pressure. As a result of this incident App Swaffer was reprimanded for attempting to improve into restricted room, Jockey D’Avila was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out and continue to lay out under pressure tightening runners to his outside. Jockey S Wilson was severely reprimanded for making insufficient effort to prevent his mount from laying in the home straight tightening runners to his inside and App A Thompson was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out and impede the running of OWN SWEET WAY which was obliged to shift out to avoid heels and in doing so tightened runners to its outside.
