HOTBOSSAN (GB)- Raced wide until a point approaching the 500m. Jockey G Kliese advised that passing the 900m, when the pace was slow, it was evident he was going to be caught wide he elected to urge his mount forward in an effort to obtain a forward position closer to the inside running rail. However, at that point in the race, the pace quickened leaving him caught wide until a point near the 500m when he was able to obtain the lead and a position along the inside running rail. Stewards noted the explanation. SHES A SINNER- Improved onto the heels of a tiring runner passing the 500m having to be steadied. After taking evidence from the riders and connections of the two runners and viewing the official patrol footage Stewards were of the opinion that both ACADEMY HILL and EL OF A SAGA were inclined to shift ground laterally down the running making contact on several occasions. Also CASH RAIDER, which had been inclined to lay out under pressure, shifted out on two occasions making contact with EL OF A SAGA causing that runner to be crowded for room. With this considered, as well as the margin of a ½ head separating the two runners Stewards dismissed the protest and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers. Performed below market expectations. Jockey N Day advised that after beginning on terms with the field the gelding was off the bit in the early stages having to be ridden vigorously early to obtain a forward position and then failed to let down at all in the home straight. Jockey Day advised that, in his opinion, the gelding may benefit from being ridden with cover in a midfield position going forward. Jockey C Jokic was reprimanded as a result of this incident. GOLDEN HANDS- Bumped by another runner which shifted out in an effort to obtain clear running passing the 200m. BEAT IT- Raced wide the majority. Stewards inquired into the reason WHYOULIKETHAT (B Pengelly) was obliged to check approaching the 400m. After taking evidence from the rider involved and viewing the patrol footage it was ascertained that approaching the 500m GOLDEN HANDS (P Romeo) shifted in tightening WRONGFULLY WRONG (C Jokic), which then commenced to race ungenerously, and taking that runner in and tightening the running of WHYOULIKETHAT which was being ridden forward in an effort to retain its position. Approaching the 400m GOLDEN HANDS then shifted out relieving the pressure, however, before WRONGFULLY WRONG was able to be fully corrected MAKARIOS (App R Shred) shifted out rounding the 400m turn forcing WHYOULIKETHAT to be checked and loose ground. Jockey P Romeo was severely reprimanded as a result of this incident. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful that whilst the catalyst for the incident the inward shift of GOLDEN HANDS was not the sole contributing factor of the incident. Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey P Romeo, rider of 4th place getter GOLDEN HANDS, to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether grounds for an objection were present. After viewing the official patrol footage Jockey Romeo elected not to proceed with any objection and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.
