SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

GENERAL

Due to current restrictions, Riders N. Day, R1: More The Merrier, R5 Cash Raider, R7 McKenzie Will Do, and S. Sheargold R1: Striking Rocket, R2: Rothgurl, R8 Hot Top, were permitted to ride their respective mounts 1kg over the allotted minimum weights.

Race 1: NORTHERN PRIDE PAST PLAYERS ASSOCIATION INC. Maiden Handicap 950 Metres

SMARTY LEE – Saddle shifted forward soon after the start placing rider S. Wilson at a disadvantage. Shifted in abruptly near the 650 metres.

LORD OF LIGHT – Slow to begin. Crowded for room near the 650 metres and was steadied. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be shin sore in the off-front shin. Trainer R. Ludwick was advised that should LORD OF LIGHT start within a six week period the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to starting.

MILKY ROCKET – Shifted in and away from SMARTY LEE which shifted in abruptly near the 650 metres crowding the runner to its inside.

EXCLUSIVE MO – Bumped leaving the 450 metres.

LAPSEKI – Shifted out to improve leaving the 450 metres bumping EXCLUSIVE MO.



Race 2: NORWELD AUSTRALIA QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1250 Metres

Correct weight was delayed when the second placegetter, Jockey N. Thomas (COCHRANE) requested to view the patrol films to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge a protest against the first placegetter SPIRIT MEISTER (M. Potgieter) alleging interference near the 1000 metres and again near the 200 metres. After viewing the films, jockey Thomas advised that he did not wish to proceed with the protest and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.

CAPPY ROCKET – Slow to begin. Finished tailed off. Connections advised it is now the intention that the gelding be retired from racing. Nonetheless stable representative was advised the horses nomination would be refused at TAB meetings until its form may improve by way of country meetings.

ROTHGURL – Commence to race ungenerously approaching the 1000 metres and shifted out bumping COCHRANE, then shifted in hampering ENDINAYA. Continued to race ungenerously and shifted in leaving the 1000 metres again hampering ENDINAYA. Trainer F. Wieland was advised a warning would be placed on the mares racing manners. Trainer reported the mare had minor lacerations to both hind lower legs.

ENDINAYE – Hampered approaching and leaving the 1000 metres. Shifted its near fore plate during running.

COCHRANE – Bumped near the 1000 metres. Forced wider leaving the 200 metres. Wide in the early stages.

SPIRIT MEISTER – Shifted out under pressure leaving the 200 metres forcing Cochrane wider before being corrected.

Race 3: LOU PICCONE MEMORIAL Class 6 Plate 1500 metres

The start of this race was delayed significantly when a member of the public required medical attention. As such all races were put back one race with the last race to be run at 5.58pm.

SOLDATI – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground. Made the 1000 metre turn awkwardly.

OWN SWEET WAY (NZ) – Slow to begin.

VERBALIZER (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages.

ROTH'N'BELL – On return to scale rider A Thomson explained it was not her intention to lead today however the gelding would not settle after beginning well and as such allowed it to improve forward instead of being caught wide.

Race 4: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO. Maiden Plate 1500 metres

HALF EVIL – Slow to begin.

SWANKY SUE – Tendency to over-race in the early stages.
BULLSWOOL – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 5: HALPIN PARTNERS ACCOUNTANTS OPEN Handicap 1250 metres

CASH RAIDER – Reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer S. Massingham was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

SYLVESTER – Commenced to over-race when being restrained soon after the start and continued to do so for some distance.

LUSHAN – Over-raced when pace slackened in the early stages.

INCHING CLOSER – Raced wide in the early stages.

WHITTERICK – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Race 6: DAPHNE CROSS MEMORIAL RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 Handicap 1250 Metres

CUNNAMULLA – Began awkwardly.

VOLTAIC – Slow to begin.

FLUTTERING – Raced wide in the middle stages.

Race 7: DULUX ACCREDITED INSPIRATIONS SPRINT RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 Handicap 950 Metres

EVIL EYE MAC – Slow to begin

SOLOMON – Slow to begin.

MCKENZIE WILL DO – Slow to begin.

SHUNTER – Slow to begin. Made the 600 metre crossing awkwardly.

AKILEOS – Raced wide for the majority.

CADENCE – Raced wide for the majority.

Race 8: NQPETRO PTY LTD RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1400 Metres

DESERT SUNDOWN – Slow to begin.

HALLSIDE HOT STUFF – Tightened for room on jumping.

MUZANBOAL ROUGE– Tightened for room on jumping.


DAWN STRIKE – When questioned in regards to the tactics adopted today, particularly in the early stages rider apprentice K. Swaffer advised that her instructions were to ride forward from its wide barrier which was similar to its previous start when successful at Townsville 14 October 2021. She further added that she attempted to steady her mount when pressured by AVATEA however the gelding would not settle and over-raced, she also noted blinkers went back on the horse today which in her opinion contributed to it racing manners today. Trainer representative Mr P. Rowe confirmed the riding instructions and agreed with Ms Swaffers explanation. Stewards noted the explanation.

AVATEA – Shifted in on jumping tightening runners its inside. When questioned in regards to the tactics adopted today, particularly in the early stages rider apprentice M. Potgieter advised that his instructions were to ride forward from its barrier which was similar to its previous starts. He further added that when he attempted to steady his mount when pressured by DAWN STRIKE the gelding would not settle and over-raced. Stewards noted his explanation.
