Due to current Covid – 19 restrictions the following over weights were permitted:

Race 1: STAR 102.7 & 4CA QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 950 Metres

SUNNY LASS – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for the late declaration of jockey L. Morrison as the rider of the filly. Slow to begin.

ALEXANDRA MARGARET – Delayed the start after dislodging its rider on entering the course proper after becoming very fractious. After cantering a short distance was recaptured, examined by the veterinary surgeon, and was cleared to start. Rider K. Swaffer declared herself free of any injury and able to fulfil her engagement. Trainer T. Rowe was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s parading manners.

CHASING DREAM – Slow to begin.

SIMPLY BEANS – Shifted in on jumping brushing HEROIC KITTY. Raced greenly near the 750 metres and shifted in hampering MISSA STITCH. Laid out rounding the home turn and shifted wider.

HEROIC KITTY – Brushed on jumping. Raced greenly in the early and middle stages.

MISSA STITCH – Momentarily hampered near the 750 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off- hind leg. Trainer F. Wieland was advised a veterinary certificate of soundness must be provided prior to its next start.

Race 2: OPTIMUS 1 INSURANCE BROKERS OPEN Handicap 950 Metres

CHEVAUX – Struck the enclosure gate on entering the course proper, was examined by the veterinary surgeon on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Raced wide rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in home straight.

SAINT NO MORE – Slow to begin and was then bumped and became unbalanced. Crowded for room near the 500 metres.

DESERT COWBOY – Bounded in the air on jumping and shifted in bumping SAINT NO MORE.

SPARKLY STAR – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 500 metres.

DELUXE ROCKER – Laid in near the 500 metres crowding runners to its inside before being corrected.

Race 3: CAIRNS TRUCK SCHOOL BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1500 Metres

MAGNATE – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

QUIDNI – Made the 750 metre crossing very awkwardly. Rider R. Wiggins explained on returning to scale the gelding never felt comfortable in its action thereafter and was not pressured in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed soreness in its near side hind leg and general muscle soreness. Trainer O. Cairns was advised a veterinary certificate of soundness must be provided prior to its next start.

OUR BOY BRETT – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race.

Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Soft 7.

Race 4: CAIRNS CARAVAN REPAIRS Maiden Plate 1250 Metres

ACTION JACKSON – Slow to begin.

GLORIOUS EXPRESS – Jumped out at the start bumping BEAN WARRIOR. Raced ungenerously throughout the race throwing its head in the air near the 900 metres and again near the 500 metres when being restrained. Rider R. Shred explained the gelding never travelled comfortably at any stage and failed to respond to her riding when placed under pressure. Trainer R. Chillemi advised stewards GLORIOUS EXPRESS would be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

BEAN WARRIOR – Bumped on jumping.

DEECATH – Shifted out on jumping, bumping with SMART SPHERE, then shifted in hampering SWANKY SUE. Shifted in near the 200 metres crowding EXPLOSIVE GIRL.

SWANKY SUE – Hampered shortly after the start.

EXPLOSIVE GIRL – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 200 metres.

MIDNIGHT BOOM – Shifted out near the 200 metres crowding EXPLOSIVE GIRL.

SMART SPHERE – Shifted in on jumping bumping with DECATH.

Race 5: CASHCOR ENGINEERING BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1250 Metres

COLLOMBATTI – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages. Steadied off heels near the 400 metres and shifted out slightly crowding MYSTERY ‘N’ MAGIC.

MYSTERY 'N' MAGIC – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room leaving the 450 metres and shifted out bumping EL OF A SAGA on the hind quarters when crowded for room by COLLOMBATTI.

LUSHAN – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

ALI'S JAB – After obtaining the lead soon after the start rider L. Morrison steadied the pace causing other runners following to be restrained. Whilst stewards noted the change in pace was moderate Ms Morrison was nonetheless advised to show greater care.

GINGER BEER – Over-raced and was checked near the 1100 metres when the pace slackened.

EL OF A SAGA – Bumped on the hind quarters near the 400 metres and became unbalanced and as a result shifted in tightening the running of MYSTERY ‘N’ MAGIC.

COASTAL BOY – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to its off-hind hock.

Race 6: NIESAR PAINTING RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1400 Metres

BOUGATSA – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Shifted out on jumping hampering CANADIAN COMET. Momentarily hampered near the 350 metres when tiring. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

CANADIAN COMET – Hampered on jumping and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

ROSE OF ATHENS – Reared brushing the barrier upright. Trainer S. Cooper was advised a warning would be placed on the mares barrier manners. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

BOTOX LADY – Delayed the start slightly after shifting its off- hind plate enroute to the barriers requiring farrier attention.

FEMALE OFFICER – Shifted out near the 350 metres hampering BOUGASTA which was tiring. When questioned into the seemingly improved performance trainer A. Bailey advised that the addition of tongue tie to the gear of the mare today and step up in distance was a telling factor and further that it was comfortable in today’s track conditions.

Race 7: TRADIES & LADIES RACEDAY - BOOK NOW RATINGS BAND 0
- 55 Handicap 1400 Metres

DESERT SUNDOWN – Slow to begin.

MT PETER MISS – Slow to begin. When questioned into the improved performance trainer A. Bailey advised stewards the mare has performed well second up from a spell and further is well adapted to today’s track conditions. Stewards noted the explanation.

RIGHT BOWER – Slow to begin. Made the 1000 metre turn awkwardly.

RAISE DA VIBRATION – Shifted wider leaving the 1000 metres and raced wide from that point onwards.

Race 8: POOL STORE PLUS QTIS JEWEL QUALIFIER 3YO Plate 1250 Metres


KURANDA – Fractious in the barrier. Tired noticeably over the concluding stages.

FIRE KING – Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced when crowded for room.

BOOMED – Bumped shortly after the start and shifted out crowding FIRE KING. Race wide in the early and middle stages.

SHESAYSTHANKS – Began awkwardly and shifted out soon after the start bumping with BOOMED. Tired noticeably over the concluding stages.

KING JESTER – Shifted inwards when bumped shortly after the start tightening ANNIEMARIAH. Raced wide for the majority.

ANNIEMARIAH – Jumped outwards bumping with KING JESTER and then shifted in bumping FIRE KING on the hind quarters and lost ground when tightened between runners shortly after. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

DUTTON BRANDED – Shifted out shortly after the start bumping IT’S A PLOY.

IT'S A PLOY – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

MY SISTER SAL – Momentarily steadied off heels approaching the 1000 metres.

Race 9: CAIRNS CAR BROKERS BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 950 Metres

ENDORSE – Reared and lost ground on jumping. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Trainer S. Massingham was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

CUPID'S SON – Bumped soon after the start. Crowded for room near the 500 metres by BIG FLASH which shifted in slightly. Restrained when placed in restricted room between runners near the 400 metres.

LILY OFTHE GLEN – Bumped with COURTING SARA on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.

OCTOBER STORM – Bumped with CUPID’S SON soon after the start. Shifted out on its own accord near the 400 metres placing CUPID’S SON in restricted room.

COURTING SARA – Bumped with LILLY OF THE GLEN on jumping. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

SANCY ROSE – Bounded in the air on jumping. Checked near the 250 metres when tightened for room by OCTOBER STORM. App M. Potgieter was found guilty of a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) in that near the 250 metres he permitted OCTOBER STORM to shift out under riding when not fully clear of SANCY ROSE (J. Felix) which had to be checked and lose its rightful running. Apprentice M. Potgieter’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of (10) days, at the expiry of a previous suspension incurred Rockhampton 11 February 2022, to commence midnight 28/02/2022 and expire midnight 10/03/2022.

EXCEEDINGLY KOOL – Rider A. Thomson was fined the sum $300.00 in that she used her whip on 8 occasions prior the 100 metres which is three more times than permitted.
