Race 1: CAIRNS AMATEURS LIFE MEMBERS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap
950 Metres

POCKET FUGITIVE – Attempted to buck shortly after the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer P. Rowe was advised the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

WILY POWER – Began awkwardly. Commenced to over-race leaving the 800 metres and made the 750 metre crossing awkwardly.

HITCHEDINMANHATTAN – Began awkwardly. Hampered near the 750 metres. Raced wide rounding the home turn.

NUCLEAR GIRL – Shifted wider to avoid heels near the 750 metres hampering HITCHEDINMANHATTAN. Raced wide rounding the home turn.

BORLOTTI BEANS – Made the 750 metre crossing awkwardly.

SIRENE ROUGE – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

Race 2: ELAINE PICCONE MEMORIAL GOVERNOR'S TROPHY Class 2 Handicap
950 Metres

KOHEETO – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

SMARTY LEE – Slow to begin.

RAMBEAU – Bumped on jumping.

DON'T WHISPER – Shifted in at the start bumping with RAMBEAU.

WILD CHOICE (NZ) – Shifted out at the start bumping with MASARED which shifted in. Raced wide rounding the home turn.

MASARED – Shifted in at the start bumping with WILD CHOICE which shifted out. Raced wide rounding the home turn.

SARANDOS – Restrained off heels near the 450 metres.

BARNEY'S BLAZE – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

NEVER CRY – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

DREAMLINE – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

Race 3: UNDERWOOD PARTY HIRE Maiden Handicap 1250 Metres

TAKEAWAY BRIDIE – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

ACTION JACKSON – Slow into stride.

LITTLE RED PEPPER – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

PSYCHOKINESIS – Raced ungenerously approaching the 1000 metres and continued to do so for a short distance. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

EYE OF RA – Rider dropped his whip near the 200 metres.

BEAN WARRIOR – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

QUE CEE SPADE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

REBOZO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be sore in the near front leg. Trainer R. Chillemi was advised he must provide a veterinary clearance of soundness prior to its next race start or trial.

SNAP CHAT – A post- race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: ALAN ATKINSON MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1250 Metres

ROCK SPUR – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MICAWBER – Slow into stride.

BANK BANK BANK – Had a tendency to over-race in the early and middle stages.

ALL TO DO – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

MATTERHORN (NZ) – Lost its off-front plate during in the race.

Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO OPEN Handicap 950 Metres

RAISE DA VIBRATION – Slow to begin. Crowded for room near the 450 metres.

THE CRUISER – Slow to begin. Steadied when crowded for room near the 450 metres.

SILENT EXPLORER – Slow to begin.

BAKUHATSU – Slow to begin.

BOLD TYPE – Slow to begin. Threw its head in the air when being restrained near the 450 metres.

MY BEST EFFORT – Laid in near the 450 metres crowding RAISE DA VIBRATION which in turn shifted in crowding THE CRUISER. Rider P. Romeo was advised to make a greater effort in similar circumstances.

DESERT COWBOY – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

PRIME RULER – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

SIR ROLAND – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

Race 6: TAB BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1500 Metres

SUPER ROSE – Trainer M. Potiris was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions LR30(1)(b) after failing to present the horse on course by the prescribed time. Slow to begin. Shifted out to obtain clear running near the 200 metres bumping HEIRBORN.

TYCOON BEAU – Lost its near fore plate during its preliminary and was replated behind the barriers prior to the start. Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. Struck over the head by whip of another rider near the 100 metres. Momentarily hampered approaching the winning post.

HEIRBORN (NZ) – Slow to begin. Bumped near the 200 metres. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

MYSTERY 'N' MAGIC – Put in an awkward stride near the 1400 metres. Shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post hampering TYCOON BEAU. Rider L. Tilley was advised to stop and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances.

POETIC ATTACKS – Shifted out under pressure near the 50 metres.

SANTA MARINELLA – Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Rider B. Thomson advised stewards she was of the opinion the gelding may have got its tongue over the bit during the race.

Race 7: CAIRNS KEY REAL ESTATE Class 3 Handicap 1400 Metres

INVESTOR – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

GAELIC – Slow to begin.

GAIUS JULIUS – Bumped on jumping.

ZABERFELDIE (NZ) – Shifted out at the start bumping GAIUS JULIUS. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

INDICTMENT – Over-raced in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

CAIERON – Over-raced in the early stages. Shifted out brushing ZABERFIELD approaching the 800 metres and raced wide from that point.

CASTILE – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. When questioned into its performance rider R. Wiggins reported that in his opinion CASTILE was disappointing today and further that it felt awkward in its action. Trainer M. McGuire advised he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance and it is now his intention to send the horse for a spell and will give further consideration to a gelding operation. A post- race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 8: CAIRNS AMATEURS FOUNDATION MEMBERS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1250 Metres

ZAKHEERA – Slow to begin.

BELLE ADELE – Bounded in the air on jumping and lost ground.

TEN SCHILLING – Over-raced in the early stages.

BONYTHON – Over-raced in the early stages.

TOFF ROCKS – Raced fiercely in the early stages.

PLUCKERCARN – Made the 1000 metre turn awkwardly and shifted out across heels. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

ROTHERO ESSGEE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

BROADWAY BABE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

MUZZLETOP – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

MYSTIC EYES – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

MY SISTER SAL – Apprentice M. Castle was questioned in regards to her tactics adopted on the mare today. Ms Castle advised she was instructed to race in a midfield position which is its normal racing pattern however MY SISTER SAL began very well and quickly took up a leading position where it was comfortable. Trainer F. Wieland confirmed those instructions. Stewards noted the explanations.
