SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Steward’s inquired into a complaint from trainer’s T & P Rowe in relation to text messages being sent to their stable staff. After hearing evidence jockey M. Abe, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 228(a) that he did in fact send the alleged text messages which was deemed conduct prejudicial to the image of racing. M. Abe was fined the sum of $300.

GENERAL

As apprentice G. Semmens was not riding at today’s meeting due to illness she was replaced as per steward’s summary.

Race 1: CAIRNS DELIVERIES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP – 950 Metres

AVERAGE JANE – As no suitable apprentice jockey was available steward’s permitted jockey A. Thomson to replace apprentice G. Semmens.

EXO SPLASH – Began very awkwardly and became unbalanced.

AIRBORNE HOTDOG – Slow to begin.

SHERE KHAN – Slow to begin. Raced wide rounding the home turn. When asked to explain its performance jockey S. Sheargold explained the gelding never travelled comfortably throughout the race and had a tendency to lay out. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

DECRYPTING GOLD – Slow to begin.

JAWGO – When asked to explain the performance today jockey C. Whiteley advised steward’s he was unable to offer any tangible explanation and it was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Connections were advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next race start or trial.

SPONTANEOUS CHOICE – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

Race 2: PICCONE'S VILLAGES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 950 Metres

Correct weight was delayed when jockey L. Morrison (FREDERICK THE DANE) which finished fourth wished to view the available race film to ascertain if she had grounds to lodge an objection against ARTIES LAD (J. Taylor) being declared the winner alleging interference approaching the winning post. After viewing the available footage, she did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

COUNTER COMMAND – As no suitable apprentice jockey was available steward’s permitted jockey S. Sheargold to replace apprentice G. Semmens.

KING JESTER – Slow to begin. Lost its off fore plate during running. Trainer R. Miller reported a superficial laceration to its off fore heel.

OVOID – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

NEUTRALIZE – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

MISS HELMUT – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

FREDERICK THE DANE – Restrained when improved onto heels approaching the winning post when tending to lay in and ATRIES LAD shifted out slightly.

ARTIE'S LAD – Laid out slightly near the winning post hampering FREDERICK THE DANE which tended to lay in. A post-race veterinary examination of ARTIE’S LAD identified the presence of blood in both nostrils. ARTIE’S LAD shall not without the permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward. AR 79(4)

Race 3: LADBROKES COMMUNITIES MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1250M

SHIHO – Delayed the start when was reluctant to proceed to the barriers.

IMPERIUM – Slow to begin.

HE CAN JAJA – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Lost its off front plate during running.

HITCHEDINMANHATTAN – Raced wide for the majority.

Race 4: SUPPRESSIVE FIRE SYSTEMS OPEN HANDICAP – 1250M

ZOUVILLA – Slow to begin.

STARFILLY – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority.

BOLD TYPE – Raced ungenerously middle stages.

Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a soft (6)

Race 5: CAIRNS FLORAL SUPPLIES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP – 1250 Metres

DAWN STRIKE – Trainer J. Hassett was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of LR 67(1) for the late declaration of rider for the gelding. Bumped near the 200 metres. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

CALDANTE – As apprentice G. Semmens was not riding at today’s meeting, she was replaced by apprentice T. Townsend. Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

NEBARAZ – As M. Abe was indisposed, he was replaced by N. Yadi. M. Abe was advised he must provide a medical clearance prior to his next race ride. Slow to begin. Raced wide for majority of the race.

KIHI – Began awkwardly.

TURN BIRD – Bounded in the air on jumping.

MR KOBO – Shifted out near the 200 metres bumping DAWN STRIKE.

Race 6: VELLACORP PAINTING SERVICES CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres

OVER THE FALLS – As jockey S. Sheargold was dually engaged he was replaced by jockey N. Yadi. Jockey S. Sheargold was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR 127(1). Stewards considered his recent poor record in relation to this matter. Slow to begin.

CLOUDY MISS – As no suitable apprentice jockey was available steward’s permitted jockey N. Nelson to replace apprentice G. Semmens.

TANGO AND CASH – Slow to begin.

COSMIC LEGEND – Began awkwardly.

PREMIUM STAR – Began awkwardly.

GREEN ESSENCE – Raced wide in the middle stages.

Race 7: CAIRNS CAR BROKERS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP – 1500 Metres

OLYMPIC KORCHNOI (BRZ) – As apprentice G. Semmens was not riding at today’s meeting, she was replaced by apprentice J. Edwards. As apprentice J. Edwards became indisposed, she was replaced by jockey A. Thomson when no other suitable apprentice jockey was available.
